If you’ve been reluctant to purchase Iconfactory’s excellent Twitter client for iOS, Twitterrific, there’s no longer any reason not to give it a whirl as the team last month took the freemium route by making the app free with ads.

Of course, in-app purchases are available to unlock specific advanced features such as push notifications, ad removal and tweet translation. Now available free in the App Store, the freshly updated Twitterrific version 5.7.1 brings out several improvements and bug fixes, detailed after the jump…

The app will no longer queue your tweets like before in an effort to “prevent accidental duplicate posts,” developers said. Older Twitter status links now open in Twitterrific and the app will now properly zoom in on the image when double-tapping in the photo viewer.

You should also appreciate an improved formatting of links sent from Twitterrific via email.

And if you hate ads as much as I do, you’ll be delighted to learn that the team has added several new safeguards to prevent web ads from automatically opening Safari

Moreover, this edition of Twitterrific includes the following bug fixes:

  • New tweet counter desaturates properly when behind popup views
  • Favoriting tweets from blocked accounts no longer results in a queue loop
  • RTs no longer display as “RT’d by and you”
  • Various crash fixes

Download Twitterrific 5.7.1 free in the App Store.

The app is universal and requires iOS 7.0 or later.

Several in-app purchases are available to remove ads ($1.99) and enable push notifications ($1.99)/tweet translation ($1.99) features. A one-time $3.99 in-app purchase unlocks everything.
