Next Keyboard could be the first iOS 8 keyboard done right

The proliferation of incredibly varied, feature-rich software keyboards has proven that Apple did the right move opening up iOS 8 to third-party developers more than ever before. That being said, the initial crop of keyboards available in the App Store leaves a lot to be desired, in my personal opinion.

None of the keyboards I've tried and tested thus far — and I downloaded virtually every single one out there — come close to touching Apple's stock keyboard in terms of efficiency and usability. It's more often than not that cramming all the features one could think of into a keyboard does the opposite of elevating the experience.

Sure, Swype makes you a faster typist but I just can't get over its sluggishness and the globe icon that's inconceivably nested under a menu. Another example: Tintype may take typing and swiping to the next level but it takes a lot of time getting used to and its appearance can be a little overwhelming for most people.

I could go on and on highlighting weaknesses and bad design choices in other keyboards that are mostly Android replicas anyway, but I won't as I'm sure our readers have their own gripes with them. On a brighter note, looks like search for the perfect iPhone keyboard could be over soon.

Enter Next Keyboard.

Ticketmaster app updated with support for Apple Pay

Popular ticket sale and distribution company Ticketmaster updated its iOS client over the weekend, bringing it to version 1.7.1. The update brings about a handful of nominal improvements, and one major new feature: support for Apple Pay.

Users with an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 can now make purchases within the app quickly & securely with a single touch using Apple's new mobile payment method. Buying tickets from Ticketmaster just got a whole lot easier.

Although this has been running for a couple days now, it's worth noting that Apple-owned Beats is running a nice holiday promotion that offers discounts on select headphones and speakers and free next-day shipping on all in-stock items at the Apple Online Store.

As Bryan Wolfe of AppAdvice writes, the special promotion offers the Solo2 headsets for $179.95 instead of the regular $199.95 price point. As for the latest Studio Wireless headsets, they are available for $341.95, normally a $379.95 value.

Docking Sequence is a retro graphics shuttle-landing simulation game

There are loads of simulation games out there. You can take flight in complex military plane cockpits, ride the rails as a train conductor, and even build an entire city as mayor. How about a docking simulation game that takes place in outer space?

Docking Sequence is such a game. Players navigate a shuttlecraft through treacherous environments in an attempt to safely land on a space station. Think Gravity mixed with Interstellar, only in 8-bit.

Apple promoting music, movies, TV shows and books via new iTunes blog on Tumblr

As first noted by 9to5Mac, Apple has expanded its social presence with a brand new blog dedicated to iTunes content and hosted on Yahoo-owned Tumblr platform.

Now available at the itunes.tumblr.com URL, the blog highlights a curated selection of movies, television shows, music and books carried on the iTunes Store.

A special emphasis is given to Apple's Best of 2014 charts that were published on iTunes last week. If memory serves me well, this is Apple's second official blog on Tumblr following odd iPhone 5c web adds and Tumblr presence which was supposed to resonate with the blog platform's younger audience.

Rumor: 12.2″ MacBook Air entering mass production in the first quarter of 2015

Apple's rumored ultra-thin MacBook Air model with a 12.2-inch screen is reportedly entering mass production in the first quarter of 2015, Taiwanese trade publication DigiTimes reported Monday citing sources from the upstream supply chain.

The Wall Street Journal said in October that production of the ultra-slim notebook with “a higher resolution” screen would commence in December of this year. DigiTimes also added that the Apple Watch is on track for a Spring 2015 release.

Russian Online Store back for business with pricier products

After being offline for six days straight, the Russia Online Apple Store went back online Monday with expectedly higher price points for the latest iPhones and other products as a direct result of the country's collapsing ruble currency.

The latest iPhone 6, for example, is now a whopping 54 percent pricier compared to Apple's previous asking prices before the store went offline and will now set would-be shoppers 53,990 rubles for an entry-level model with sixteen gigabytes of storage, which works out to about $984 off-contract and excluding taxes.

Google+ gains iPhone 6 support, iOS 8 Share extension and polls

Google's official iOS client for the company's social network, Google+, has finally received a refresh for the new iPhones, more than three months after the handsets have hit stores.

In addition to native support for the new 1,334-by-750 and 1,920-by-1,080 screen resolutions of the new iPhones, the updated software brings a useful Share extension allowing you to send stuff to Google+ from other apps, the ability to vote on polls embedded in Google+ posts and bug fixes.

Stair: Slide the Blocks to Ascend review – the name says it all

I love it when a completely new type of game comes out. It’s not that often that we, as game reviewers, get to play around with something that has not yet been done to death in one form or another, even in our most favorite genres.

Stair: Slide the Blocks to Ascend is different than most types of games I’ve played, yet its simplicity makes it so easy to get engrossed in that it seems like I’d been playing it for years. It is technically an endless jumper, but not like Knightmare Tower or Ninja Up. We’ve got a hands-on game review of Stair for your reading enjoyment today.

Allarm: a cleverly named tweak that toggles all alarm clocks simultaneously

Looking for a quick way to disable all alarm clocks in the stock Clock app at the same time? Allarm—a clever mix of the words All and Alarm—is a brand new jailbreak tweak that allows you to do just that. It places a handy toggle switch at the top of the alarm clock tab in the stock Clock app. Toggling this switch allows you to quickly disable all alarms simultaneously.

How to add Nyan Cat to Reachability view

It seems like at least once every jailbreak generation a jailbreak tweak arrives to add the Nyan Cat to iOS. This time around, the Nyan Cat is added to iOS 8's Reachability view. Appropriately entitled ReachTheNyanCat, this free jailbreak tweak is a good way to spice up Reachability on your iPhone.
