Powerleft shows how much usage time remains on the iPad’s battery

The usage time remaining statistic is something we all tend to take for granted on our laptops, but it’s not something we’re accustomed to having on our tablets; at least iOS tablets, that is.

Powerleft is a jailbreak tweak that aims to fix this oversight, adding a usage remaining indicator conveniently in the iPad’s status bar. Now you’ll be better equipped to know if you can sit through that 3 hour movie, without reaching for the charging cable.

The settings panel for Powerleft contains a wide range of adjustments that mainly center around the look of the status bar. The panel can look a bit daunting at first glance, until you realize that most settings are aimed at the way the tweak looks, instead of functions.

There is a primary setting that changes how the power remaining indicator is calculated, but I found that the variance between each setting was fairly minimal. With that in mind, it’s totally possible to install Powerleft without feeling like you have to go in and adjust all of the settings. It’s very much plug and play.

Sadly, the tweak is iPad only at the moment. That likely has more to do with the real estate available on the iPhone’s status bar, more than anything else. If you look through the comments on YouTube, you’ll find a few enterprising individuals that have been able to work around the restriction.

At $0.99, I can recommend Powerleft. It makes you feel a bit more comfortable when using the iPad in low power situations. Head over to Cydia’s BigBoss repo today and check it out. Afterwards, be sure to share your thoughts about Powerleft in the comments below.
