Apple Still Signing iOS 4.1 Firmware

by Zech TesfaYohannes on Aug 5, 2011

Today, we received an interesting tip from iDB reader Burge. He informed us that Apple is still signing the iOS 4.1 firmware. He told us that he tested it on his newer model iPhone 3GS and his son’s iPod Touch 2nd generation.

This is very interesting for 2 reasons. First, why would Apple sign a firmware that came out in September? Also, why out of all the iOS updates, 4.1 is the only one in the past still being signed? Read More

Although there was some speculation as to whether this SIM Interposer was legit or not, today a reader over at Redmond Pie has provided evidence showing an iPhone 4 with 2.10.04 baseband running on T-Mobile USA’s network using the Gevey SIM Interposer.

iPhone Dev Team Successfully Ports Untethered Jailbreak Back to 4.1 SHSH Blobs

by Kickstar13 on Jan 25, 2011

Late last month, the iPhone Dev Team officially released their jailbreak “backup plan”, which was released because Comex was not able to meet his Christmas ETA. The new jailbreak method, called “Jailbreak Monte” used your saved iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs to give your iDevice the first untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1.

The method required you to have an Apple developer account to get a hold of the 4.2 beta 3 IPSW (although the firmware could be pirated, the iPhone Dev Team is strictly against piracy).

Sunday, via Twitter @MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team announced that the untethered jailbreak Monte has been successfully ported back to the 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs) for iOS 4.2.1.This means that you will now be able to use your saved iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs to get an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1…

Tutorial: How to Install the New Cydia for iOS 4.2

by Alex Heath on Dec 3, 2010

Cydia was recently updated to support Apple’s updated API’s in iOS 4.2. This particular Cydia update was quite the major overhaul, and there is no option available (yet) within Cydia to update to the newest version automatically.

Besides iOS 4.2 support, there are several long-awaited improvements in this version of Cydia.

The most noticeable improvement in this update is a huge performance boost throughout the whole application. Everything is faster. Once Cydia does the initial restructuring and downloading after you first install the update, you should notice an immediate boost in speed as you navigate the app. That means less of the dreaded loading wheel and more of actually accomplishing what you want to do… Read More

How to Downgrade iPhone iOS 4.2.1

by Sebastien on Dec 2, 2010

Let’s say you recently updated your iPhone to iOS 4.2.1 and for various possible reasons, you are already regretting this move. It is possible to downgrade your iPhone 4.2.1 to a previous iOS, but for this, you need to have your SHSH blobs on file for the iOS you want to downgrade to.

To be completely clear, if you don’t have your SHSH blobs on file for the iOS you want to downgrade to, you will not be able to downgrade. There is no way around that. This being said, here is how to downgrade iPhone iOS 4.2.1 to  4.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.1, or 4.0… Read More

How to Prepare Your iPhone for Unlock with PwnageTool

by Sebastien on Nov 28, 2010

The Dev Team just released an update to their UltraSn0w unlock. Unfortunately, this time it’s not as easy as downloading and installing UltraSn0w to unlock the iPhone.

If your iPhone is on baseband 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, or 05.13.04, then you can simply go to Cydia and download UltraSn0w. If you are on a different baseband, you will first have to update your baseband to 06.15.00, which is unlockable.

All this sounds a little confusing? Yes, it’s normal. It’s very confusing, so I highly suggest you read this before going forward with the unlock process. It will tell you what you can and cannot do, depending on your configuration… Read More

iPhone Unlock for iOS 4.1 and 4.2 Coming Soon?

by Sebastien on Nov 1, 2010

Here is an interesting tweet from MuscleNerd saying that “a very nice unlock” is coming soon. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the Dev Team already has an unlock ready for release but they’re just waiting for Apple to ship iOS 4.2, sometimes in the next few days.

I assume this unlock will work for every device and will be compatible with iOS 4.1 and 4.2 basebands… Read More
