Last week, the Gevey Team announced their SIM Interposer for the iPhone 4. This SIM Interposer would provide the long awaited iPhone 4 unlock or Baseband 2.10.04 and 3.10.01.
Although there was some speculation as to whether this SIM Interposer was legit or not, today a reader over at Redmond Pie has provided evidence showing an iPhone 4 with 2.10.04 baseband running on T-Mobile USA’s network using the Gevey SIM Interposer.

Remember the days of the TurboSIM, and how that was a popular method for unlocking the iPhone 2G in 2008?
Gevey, one of the companies that was a leading provider of those TurboSIMs has released a SIM Interposer which can unlock the iPhone 4 up to iOS 4.3 by force activating the baseband using the emergency dialer.
Late last month, the iPhone Dev Team officially released their jailbreak “backup plan”, which was released because Comex was not able to meet his Christmas ETA. The new jailbreak method, called “Jailbreak Monte” used your saved iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs to give your iDevice the first untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1.
The method required you to have an Apple developer account to get a hold of the 4.2 beta 3 IPSW (although the firmware could be pirated, the iPhone Dev Team is strictly against piracy).
Sunday, via Twitter @MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team announced that the untethered jailbreak Monte has been successfully ported back to the 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs) for iOS 4.2.1.This means that you will now be able to use your saved iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs to get an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1…
Cydia was recently updated to support Apple’s updated API’s in iOS 4.2. This particular Cydia update was quite the major overhaul, and there is no option available (yet) within Cydia to update to the newest version automatically.
Besides iOS 4.2 support, there are several long-awaited improvements in this version of Cydia.

Let’s say you recently updated your iPhone to iOS 4.2.1 and for various possible reasons, you are already regretting this move. It is possible to downgrade your iPhone 4.2.1 to a previous iOS, but for this, you need to have your SHSH blobs on file for the iOS you want to downgrade to.

The Dev Team just released an update to their UltraSn0w unlock. Unfortunately, this time it’s not as easy as downloading and installing UltraSn0w to unlock the iPhone.
If your iPhone is on baseband 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, or 05.13.04, then you can simply go to Cydia and download UltraSn0w. If you are on a different baseband, you will first have to update your baseband to 06.15.00, which is unlockable.

Here is an interesting tweet from MuscleNerd saying that “a very nice unlock” is coming soon. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the Dev Team already has an unlock ready for release but they’re just waiting for Apple to ship iOS 4.2, sometimes in the next few days.
