The long-awaited iOS 6.x jailbreak, known as evasi0n, has been dubbed the most popular jailbreak ever. And rightly so. In its first 10 minutes, it was used by over 100,000 people. And 4 days later, that number grew to 7 million.

Today, nearly a month after evasi0n’s release, there’s a new statistic out. Evad3rs team member pod2g just passed along the news from Saurik that more than 14 million devices have now been seen running Cydia on iOS 6.x…

Here’s the tweet:

Obviously, there’s no way of verifying how many of these devices were jailbroken using evasi0n (other tools like RedSn0w and Sn0wbreeze are technically capable), but we’re willing to bet that it’s an extremely large portion.

Apple released iOS 6 to the public in September of last year, and there were a good 3 or 4 months after that where we didn’t hear a word about its jailbreak status. Some people even started losing hope. But then came the evad3rs.

As most of you know by now, evasi0n is the product of the evad3rs, a team made up of iOS hackers MuscleNerd, pod2g, planetbeing and pimskeks. The hack is extremely complex, and has managed to survive 2 iOS updates.

But unfortunately, it looks like its run is over. Last week, planetbeing confirmed that Apple has already patched at least one of the exploits evasi0n uses in iOS 6.1.3, effectively breaking the jailbreak. We still need more details though.

If for some reason you haven’t used it yet, you can find evasi0n on our Downloads page. And if you’re not sure how to use it, or just need a refresher, feel free to check out our evasi0n tutorial for Mac, or our evasi0n guide for Windows.

  • hardikchawla

at least one of the exploits

    • zack18

ya i cant find movie box either i had it and than my ipod crashed when i re- jailboke it it was no longer on cydia

  • And to those who lost hope.. Na-na-na-na-na..

    • Only 2 lost hope..

      • Tr1pTr0p

I lost hope? Then why do I still have an iPhone?

      • Be cause a iPhone still works just fine with out a jailbreak..
A jailbreak is a bonus when you can have it.. As for losing hope.. You should never lose hope..

      • Tr1pTr0p

It works fine, and that is all it does. Android works better. With it, I need no bonuses because everything is already available out of the box.

I assume that, in your first comment up there, you were referring to those who switched. Why mock them? If anyone switched to Android, then good for them because they will forever enjoy what we only have with a jailbreak. How is that a bad thing?

      • First off I said what I did because some thought a jailbreak wasn’t going to happen. They lost fath ..
As for the a iPhone not having a jailbreak.. Does it not work with out one ?
If you rely on a jailbeak for the tweaks and only the tweaks it can give you then you got the wrong phone.. A jailbreak is only a bouns to having a iPhone.. It doesn’t make the phone work..

      • Tr1pTr0p

Let me repeat myself. iPhone works perfectly fine without a jailbreak, but then it’s nothing but a pure joke.

      • Then why do you have one ?
Don’t tell me your one of those who think that a PHONE can not work unless its got tweaks on it.. It’s a phone for phone calls and text messages and because its got email . You know what i’am going to say .. But the bottom line is its a phone.. For phone calls .. And if you think that you should have more go get a device that gives you more..

      • Tr1pTr0p

Because I bought it a year ago, when Android wasn’t as good as it is now, and I’m stuck with it for another year. A smartphone is a category of products which serves a hell of a lot more purposes than just calls and messages

      • Yes I know and I more or less said that … And a jailbreak is just a way of making your device a bit more to your liking .. If you get a iDevice just because you can jailbreak then that is just sad..

      • genXhippie

For me no jailbreak(s), no idevices. 😉

Smh, How many android cockridas are up in this shit?

      • Tr1pTr0p

I’m an Android cockrida? Someone here is full of shit and it ain’t me.

      • Can you please stop disliking this I have to keep coming back to check it and see if I need to edit it .. Thanks …lol..

  • The number of jailbroken devices is more than the population of my country(Singapore).

    • Yaowei

Our people now want Samsung as they are comparing features ( bigger screen & do things to your phone yourself ), but jailbreak made Apple iPhone awesome. Apple don’t realise the problem.

    • RarestName

My sources point out that there is a 90% chance that you are Willie Liew.

  • Hope apple gets the message out of this number that what things are needed by people and which really makes them happy using their iDevice.

  • They all use the evasi0n untether though, so technically they are all jailbroken using evasi0n.

    • uummm, no. if someone has a older device, like a iphone 3g that can’t use ios6, then they used a different method to jailbreak, therefore not using evasi0n.

      • He didn’t say anything about devices not on iOS 6.. A little common please

  • Graphics credits? That is so hard stolen from AOKP Android

    • regkilla

      dude STFU

      GTFO Android cock rider.

      • I’m neutral about both Apple and Android and like both systems. I just love tech. But evasi0ns picture is not original. That’s all I’m stating. Aren’t you guys who has problems with not being original and samsung copying blabla. Then don’t copy an existing image with credits to many people. And you sir are one though internet hooligan. Peace

  • siddique

Jeff ,,,what if there would be a new phone product made by jb cydia,,!!!

    • Or what if the evad3rs made their own os which is exactly the same as iOS except with Cydia built into it and whatever features apple adds they can add those features into the os too

      • EpicFacepalm

        Keep dreaming

    • batongxue

      He’s not Jeff.

  • Eddiepradom

Apple should learn a thing or two from Evasi0n!

  • JV

recently i update my iphone 4s from ios 5.1.1 to ios 6.1.2 jailbroken.!
i m facing too much crashing of camera app and other application , ios 6.1.2 is full of bugs.
    hw to fix it?

  • Adrian12369

Anyone else here use movie box? I uninstalled it and now it’s gone(can’t find it in Cydia). Can anyone help me?

    • Leo

      is still available.

    • zack18

same here i cant find it i used to have it

      • Adrian12369

Are you on 5.1.1? Because I think that’s the reason.

      • Adrian12369

So I opened music box and it informed me that movie box is now on a different source. I got it again on that new source.

  • LOL I DID This jailbreak on day 1
I hope apple make iOS open to 3rd party apps soon

  • batongxue

Yeah, impressive number! But thinking of “over 500 million iOS devices sold”, I wonder what those people who do not jailbreak their idevices are thinking!?
Few people would be too busy to do this, I mean, nowadays JB only needs one click or one more tap. And actually, you would be much much more productive in many ways after you install awesome tweaks like Zephyr or NC Settings.
The truth is most people simply do not understand the essence of JB. What on their mind is JB means being able to pirate apps and maybe a lot among them despise this, and maybe that is the reason why they stay away from JB without further knowing about it.
Look at the numbers, 23 million versus 500 million. Apart from the older devices people would not bother to JB or even use anymore, 23 million is still a relatively small portion.

We need much more promotion and education on JAILBREAK.
Nobody should blame something for what it is not, especailly this!

It is Jailbreak we are talking about, it is Cydia we are talking about!

Maybe when iOS 7 is Jailbroken(I have no doubt in that), Evad3rs should put some simple and obvious slogan above their website.

    Anybody got any good ideas?

    • Kaptivator

I am one that has an iPhone and it is not jailbroken. The reason that I have not jailbroken my phone is because of the risk of a tweak causing my phone to crash when I may need it most. I use my phone for business as well as pleasure and could not be productive during my work day without my phone. Yes, I have a work phone, but I have a side business as well.

I hear and see how wonderful jailbreaking is. But my main concern is security and stability. I wouldnt have time to reboot and install all of my apps one by one to see which one is causing the crash, specifically during the work day.

I support the jailbreaking community and admire the time and dedication it takes into doing something (making jailbreak, tweaks, etc.) of this caliber. However, I can not sacrifice the stability of my phone even though deep down I know that some of these tweaks would make life more productive with my iPhone.

If my comment is misguided, please educate me. Because this is the only reason I am still on the fence with jailbreaking my iDevices.

      • If your phone crashes during work, usually it will just go to safe mode. Which just basically makes it run like the regular iOS. Rarely will a tweak crash your phone so bad that you need to reboot it. So you could leave it in safe mode, and still use it while you wait for time to fix it. Plus a tweak like sbsettings will allow you to turn off individual tweaks without uninstalling them so you don’t need to uninstall all of them, just the root of the problem once you find it.

      • Pesonal Experience:

some apps arent what they claim to be (or as stable as they apprear). I had a very select few jailbroken apps running (MyWi, Intelliscreen, ….. ) that has been confirmed are working on iOS6 and one of the apps / tweaks caused a memory leak / performance issue so great it made my iphone 5 only be able to respond to touch commands every minute or so… obviously tried removing the last installed first and rebooting to see what caused it. eventually just removed the jailbreak.

Ive also had apps give me issues with wifi connectivity and cellular connectivity. after these, I no longer feel the need to be vulnerable to PAID jailbroken apps that arent properly tested.

I’m all for jailbreaking, but will never put something on a work / business phone that i have not thoroughly tested myself on a personal phone.

Some apps on Cydia is going the Apple money making route – easy money for an app that doesnt work and no refunds….

      • Kaptivator

I have a work phone, which I would never jail break once our migration to iOS is completed, and personal phone that I use for a small business of my own. My question is…In order to solve the issue, did you have to remove the entire jailbreak or just the app? How often did it occur? Is there an “approved” jailbreaking app list that has been tested for stability here on IDB that one could reference? Or is it just try as you go and hope for the best?

      • Kaptivator

Correct me if I’m wrong. So what you are saying is that in the event that something does go wrong, my phone will not crash but just restart in safe mode? How would i get out of safe mode and back to iOS or Jailbreak?

      • Safe mode is part of the jailbreak. When your phone crashes it restarts the spring board in “safe mode” which disables all of your tweaks but still gives access to cydia if you need to uninstall something. You can either restart the spring board via the prompt it gives you, or you can use your phone in safe mode and restart your spring board later by taping the status bar from safe mode. You can also just restart your phone if you have time, and want to. Jailbreak tweaks can be unstable at times, but are usually updated quickly, and alternatives are usually available as well.

      • Yes is misguided.. Nowadays no jailbreak can crash or “brick” your device. Worst case scenario is that some tweak is incompatible with another and your phone goes into safe mode (no tweaks but cydia) so you can uninstall whatever you think caused the crash. So dont worry about not having your phone whenever you need it the most…

      • Kaptivator

      • As long as ur checking tweak and app comparability as well as not pirating ur apps ur phone will not crash. My iPhone 5 runs flawlessly and I have probably 20 jailbreak tweaks that I regularly use running.

      • Kaptivator

I wont pirate any apps. I believe in paying for what I use. Is there a way to check comparability and compatibility of apps?

      • iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.2 running flawlessly with 34 tweaks. I’ve only seen safe mode once from my iPhone 5, and it was because I forced a substrate crash on purpose for the sake of playing around. the evasion jailbreak is very stable. And uses some of the best exploits. It’s quite safe, and jailbreaks have become a lot more user friendly over the years. So yeah, jailbreaking the iPhone 5 or frankly any iOS device, is quite safe.

      • batongxue

Check out what Anthony Aaron Anderson said right below.
I think that had it all.

If I have to say something, which might have been included by other people,

First, tweaks nowadays rarely cause crashes. There will certainly be some little bugs out there, but who doesn’t? iOS itself has bugs. And those little bugs, which mostly do not matter at all, generally will be fixed soon by JB devs.

Second, if a crash happens, you simply enter the safe mode, which means all JB tweaks are disabled to make sure no further damage(like the reboot that keeps haunting you). Safe mode actually brought you somewhere like the original iOS. You can still use your idevices, you can still do you business.

Third, personally, I haven’t been through safe mode since I JBed iOS 6.1. It just takes some time to get to know things or a little knowledge about those awesome tweaks.

Last, it is not you who misguided. It is Apple who did that. Of course, intentionally!

Welcome to a whole new world.

      • Kaptivator

Thanks for your and everyone else insight. Does Safe mode happens automatically or do you have to reboot into safe mode like a PC?

      • batongxue

If there is an issue, then the jailbroken device will go into Safe Mode, it does not require a reboot which takes a longtime.
It simply takes a few seconds, it is called respring(because of the name springboard).

Again, I have not entered Safe Mode since this Jailbreak.

      • Safe mode is an automatic fail safe. It doesn’t reboot the OS like it would in a restart. It just resprings with all the tweaks disabled. a respring just resets what’s actively running. It’s not an exact comparison, but kind of think of logging out of a pc, and logging back in, that’s not exactly what happens, but it has a similar result. It restarts everything running except for the base OS.

  • PersianHawkes

I made the switch to android after the iphone 5 and havent looked back since. Tired of waiting for a real refresh of hardware every two years and the lack of customization.

    • Lordthree

      Enjoy the headache

      • PersianHawkes

Haha what headache. You will have the headache of wondering when/if another jailbreak comes out and the same design every two years.

      • Lordthree

It could be the same design EVERY year and I’d be fine. It’s the best designed phone in the world. Why change what’s not broken?

      • PersianHawkes

Dont ask me ask apple why they changed it from 3.5 to 4 inches.

      • You’re complaining because… they made it bigger? DUR

      • The answer to your question is because styles come and go…

    • smtp25

Yeah now you just wait 2 years for a fresh of android, hoping your phone is actually supported.

      • thats why people install roms on their phone.

      • smtp25

And then another one, until you find one that works, then you have to tweak it more to work on your network

      • The first one was CyanogenMod and i like it. And i do not know what you mean about tweaking it to work for your network.

  • Leo

I had a Gs3 2 months ago and sold it for the iPhone 5 and what an UPGRADE! and now jailbroken with features like Zephyr, Auxo, Barrel, Springtomize 2, Movie box, music box it does mora than what an android phone can do.. i have picture for every and each contacts on my phone list. i can stream music and movies over the air, i can attach any files on email, i can costumize it with beautiful widgets like jukebox that displays the song im playing and shows u the cover of the si gle along with the song information. Nc weather also looks great. NC settings is ver useful and not to mention… App Cake is a must to try out apps before buying then.. i mean with that being said.. iPhone takes the lead here i would never to back to android, laggy, crashy and not soo fun like a jailbroken iphone.

  • Have to say iphone never will be the same without jailbreak or cydia it needs all the stuff that cydia has.

  • Adrian12369

Don’t know if I should update to ios 6. I’m still on 5.1.1

    • What are you waiting for?

    • Jaye

5.1.1 is the best iOS, if I could, I would downgrade to 5.1.1.

      • Adrian12369

        Why? Serious question.

      • FabianPVD

iOS 5.1.1 had the most compatibility with mostly everything. So far on iOS 6 I have mostly everything I had on iOS 5 except for Gridlock. Though I’m happy with the upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.1.2

      • EpicFacepalm

        Flex has a Gridlock-like patch.

      • FabianPVD

Does it? I’ll have to look into it.

        @Adrian – Never used backgrounder.

      • EpicFacepalm

Doesn’t work on iOS 6.x nevermind my bad

      • Adrian12369

I also heard backgrounder doesn’t work on iOS 6. True? If not, are there any alternatives? Thats one of my daily used tweaks.

    • leart za jmi

Dont do it, i have a 5 month old 4s in ios 5.1.1, and i will stay till i get new iphone, 5s or 6 🙂
Ios 5.1.1 is the best so far

  • How about you stop giving us useless facts and you give us some tweaks

    • smtp25

      Your mom said its bedtime

  • Manuel Vergara

I’m having problems with the keyboard in some apps like find my iPhone, it turns light blue and it’s difficult to see the letters I have iPhone 4S running evasion on ios 6.1.2 don’t have winter board installed

  • nathaniel

need help i deleted bigboss and i carnt get it back help asap

  • I’ll be removing the jailbreak until further update to iOs jailbreak. My volume control, weather apps, youtube (safari) is screwed up. Although i respect Invasion Work. Definitely need Some fixing.

    • Restore your device
Do not and I mean do not restore from a back up, set the device up from new ..do not restore from a back up..
      Now download evasi0n 1.4
      Now jailbreak with that..

    • bloodshed

works like a charm, just make sure you follow the steps well.

  • Why is the download site “Disabled” for evasi0n?

  • Kyle Willis

An iphone without jailbreak is a £500 brick with less features than an £80 Android with a few 69p apps on it , it cant even give us a basic feature like a working bluetooth

  • bloodshed

i wish they release the amount of donations, or an estimation, they have received..just curious to know how far would the jb community go to participate and support these great people. if each jailbreaker donated only $1, well that’s over $14 millions already in hand, and many others donate even more..if this is real, imagine how it would change their lives, like they have changed ours.

  • Apple patched the jailbreak in iOS 6.1.3? No way

  • without jailbreak apple is domeeeeeeed fuked up

  • Lets do the Evasi0n Shake 🙂 and jailbreak:P

  • TheAsianDVD

If this number keeps rising, then maybe one day the number of jailbroken device will match the number of fish in the seas. If it hasn’t already 😛
