I’ve never been particularly fond of the new Lock screen camera “grabber” feature on iOS 5.1 and above, and frankly, I never find myself using it. In fact, I never used the camera shortcut that appeared with a double press of the Home button on firmware below iOS 5.1. Call me crazy, but I’m just not a big fan of using the camera directly from the Lock screen.

NoCameraGrabber is a jailbreak tweak designed with people like me in mind. It completely removed the camera grabber feature from your iPhone’s Lock screen, and it doesn’t even bring up the camera button with a double press of the Home button. NoCameraGrabber is a great way to completely eliminate camera shortcut functionality from the Lock screen. Take a look at our video preview for more info…

If you’re in the same boat as I am, and absolutely loathe Lock screen camera shortcuts, then I advise you to check out NoCameraGrabber. It’s a free download from Cydia’s BigBoss repo, and there are no options to configure.

What about you? Do you like the Lock screen camera shortcuts, or not?

    Does it work with Paperlock?

that would just kill the fun!! i use that grabber all the time, its a must have, and one of my personal wishes since ios 2.0.

It’s so much quicker to take pictures with

    • Actually I think SpyPhoto is quicker.

  • Or you know, Springtomize has the option to remove the button too.

    I love the camera grabber

I love the grabber! I use to have the camera app bound to ‘hold volume down button’ with Activator, which worked well on the lockscreen too, but the grabber is even quicker to open.

I’m not sure why anyone would want to go to the extra time and trouble of having to ulock the phone to take a photo, especially when good photo opportunities can often pass by very quickly.

Is it just the aesthetics of the camera on the lockscreen you loathe Jeff?

the only annoying thing about this, is it keeps the font the same size..so it looks a bit funky. hopefully the springtomize dev and this fellow can find a way to make it /exactly/ the same as <5.1.

  • This can also be achieved with SliderWidth. And for taking pictures, this short cut is actually very very handy. Yes, I use the grabber all the time. I have the ProCamera App asigned to it, though.

    • Can you please tell me how to change the camera short cut to open to Procamera instead of the default camera? I’ve tried to search everywhere and can’t find how to do it. I do not have a camera lock selection in my Settings either. I have 4s. Thank you!

  • I’d use it but the slider doesn’t get longer like on iOS 5.0.1.. Which makes it look ugly in my opinion. Still great for a free tweak.

No Lockscreen Camera does the same thing and that is what I used.

  • This is so key for those of us who use SBRotator on our iPhones. The Camera Grabber made the slide to unlock really awkward when the phone was in landscape.
