Blackout is a simple tweak that replaces the stock silver status bar with a solid black background. It’s a change that’s purely aesthetic, and it features no options or settings to configure.

Developer, Adam bell, suggests that Blackout looks best when paired with chpwn’s Zephyr tweak, and I have to concur. The black status bar blend seamlessly when switching between apps using Zephyr’s multitouch gestures. Take a look inside for our full video walkthrough of Blackout.

Blackout is a free jailbreak tweak that can be downloaded from Cydia’s BigBoss repo. As stated, there’s not much to it besides the fact that it changes your status bar to black, hence there are no preferences to configure.

  • Installed this yesterday. I’m liking it. I don’t however have the swipe left/right option enabled with Zephyr but still gives a good look.

  • Finally! Best tweak yet! I love the black status bar!

    • Try intelliscreenx, dashboard, unfold these are all in my opinion better

  • perfect to use with black navigation bars šŸ˜€

I’ve been trying to achieve this with themes for a long time now. Finally someone’s bringing this up. I think iOS looks much better when the status bar is consistent and doesn’t change depending on which app you’re using. Really like it. And Zephyr is a must-have. šŸ˜€

      Sounds like Android XD

  • I never thought the gray status bar was ugly. It matched Mac OS X.

  • Nice upgrade. I never really noticed the grey bar but I like the change.

  • If you could customize the color that would be cool to

Blackout + RoundCorners = iPad-like UI Awesomeness on the iPhone!!!

    • This is great! Adds a touch of Apple-ness to this Android-like tweak. Awesome suggestion.

  • Check how it works with stride, once you go to draw your password its transparent again, and when you go dont unlock your device and press that arrow on the left to go back to the lockscreen its still transparent.

Hey Jeff could you see if they could do the same tweak in transparency? Black looks better than silver to me but I really like the transperent with colored backgrounds it makes the screen look a little bigger.
Can anyone figure out how to place there own images in the settings background without winterboard? I don’t use winterboard anymore but I really miss apple settings background in cydia.

  • It is buggy with zephyr, causes switcher to go black and I had a safe mode crash twice with it already. I am staying away from iz

    • Yeah, I got the same problem here. But even after I unnistalled Blackout, the switcher is still black. How do I get rid of it?

      • This is a little late but I just ran into this problem myself. Did you ever find a work around?

  • if the status bar was black, a tweak would make it silver, and that will be GREAT to have a silver status bar, instead of the ugly black one made by apple

  • Javier Gore

I don’t like it. Makes my screen look a bit smaller.

Also achievable with a tweak called Transparent Status Bar.. It’s transparent on the lockscreen and Homescreen. Statusbar turns black with white fonts when safari opens or other apps with status bar. Perfect look on the iPad.. iPhone is the same except the network signal and the 3G icon turns “blue??” on the status bar and others are slightly faded when apps are open.. It’s the best tweak for status bar I reckon.. Let me know what you think.. This is Harry from idonthaveablog.. Peace..
