Reveal allows you to view more text on banner and Lock screen notifications

By , May 21, 2012

Today I was able to go hands-on with Reveal — a jailbreak tweak that allows you to view more text for your banner and Lock screen notifications.

As it stands, stock notifications aren’t nearly as useful as they should be, because you can only view an extremely truncated version of the message contained within the notification.

Reveal aims to change this by allowing you to horizontally scroll on banner notifications, vertically scroll on Lock screen notifications, and more.

Take a look at our hands-on video walkthrough inside…

Along with the horizontal banner scrolling and vertical scrolling on the Lock screen bubble notifications, there’s also a feature of Reveal that allows you to tap and enlarge the table cell view. See our video for a visual display of what we mean.

One thing that you should note is that lengthy notifications for 3rd party apps are truncated a bit by iOS itself, so if you don’t see the entirety of a message in your notifications, it’s a result of how iOS works. On the other hand, Apple’s stock apps have no limit on the amount of text that can appear within push notifications.

If you’re looking for a way to make your notifications more useful, then head over to Cydia’s BigBoss repo where you can download Reveal for $1.99.

What do you think?

  • I never get any notifications anyway, i probably won’t get it, though it looks cool… forever alone

  • Wow, that’s a tiny bit overpriced IMO

Way overpriced for what it does.
Jeff didn’t mention this though, maybe he has shares in the company! 😉

awesome! this will be one of the first tweaks i purchase & DL when Absinthe 2.0 is released

  • 1.99 is too expensive. This will encourage people to use crack version. For such tweak its suppose to be 0.99.

    • Actually it may be because of the time it took for him to code it. I agree it’s kinda overpriced but if the developer is new to developing community I would give him the $1.99. But it’s my opinion 😉

too expensive? maybe you should rethink your means of living

I can’t scroll on the lockscreen, anyone got the same problem??

    • What application notification were you trying to scroll with?

      • Joel Toutin

the messeage app and the Facebook app, none of them did work…

      • As Jeff mentioned in the video, Apple’s servers only allows 3rd party applications 256 bytes for push. So, in the event that the notification on the lock screen exceeds that, it will cut-off. We can’t do anything about that unfortunately.

However, stock applications like Messages and Mail do not have this problem and will always be able to show.

1.99 is a little steep though the tweak can be really useful at times….

only if they drop the price to .99 and many ppl will surely jump on this…

  • Where is that alert tone located?

  • jose castro

It’s not compatible with chip… You can’t change the font color it’s always black…. Hope they fix it.

    • We’ve contacted the developers and will be addressing this issue in an update.

      • yeah would be nice if u could connact the developers of lockinfo too.
I really would like to use them both and not just one.

      • It’s not compatible with LockInfo?

      • It’s not compatible with LockInfo?

      • Some how I’m not able to respond to your second comment i can only like it, anyways it’s not crashing or anything like that…
But it seems that the notifications on my locksreen can’t show the full text maybe it’s just a matter of settings i got have to test a little more

      • It depends on what application is sending the notification. What is the application in question?

As Jeff mentioned in the video, Apple’s servers only allows 3rd party applications 256 bytes for push. So, in the event that the notification on the lock screen exceeds that, it will cut-off. We can’t do anything about that unfortunately.

  • As they stand, notifications are as useful as they need to be. What you said is just bollocks, Jeff. Notifications do what they need to do, notify you of something. The preview of your message is only to help you decide wether you need to see the message now or later. When you want to view your message in it’s entirety (if it doesn’t entirely fit into the preview) you go and view the message.
The ability to view the entire message within the notification is superfluous and not worth $2.

      I agree..

  • i’d prefer a kernel exploit that would allow verbose booting. back on the topic, pretty cool if you want to read the entire message in 1 shot.

Great tweak, but $1.99 is too much for what it does. There are full blown apps that require more developing, graphic design, and do a lot more yet cost as much as this tweak. $0.99 is a more appropriate price for what you get with this tweak.

  • …it does work w/ ColorBanner tho, so that’s something!

  • I just put restore my iPhone 4S back to stock. For what ever reason my App Switcher was slowing down and my iphone was starting to crash here and there. You know what it feels pretty good I think I might keep it this way. It feels quick and smooth

    Nothing to say but COOL!
