Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to add your own background image to iOS 5’s Notification Center? Well if your device is jailbroken, now you can.

Introducing: Custom NC Background — a jailbreak tweak that allows you to add you own visual style to Notification Center by means of a snapshot from the Camera Roll…

I have to be honest, when I first saw this tweak I thought that it would surely make Notification Center laggy and slow. I’m pleased to report that that’s not the case at all. Notification Center is just as smooth with a custom background as it is without one, as the tweak introduces no discernable lag.

WinterBoard isn’t a prerequisite, so that’s a breath of fresh air for those of you who avoid it like the plague, and it even plays nice with IntelliScreenX.

I didn’t think that a background photo would make much of a difference to Notification Center, but I really like the look, and I think you will too.

If your iDevice is jailbroken, head over to Cydia where you can download Custom NC Background for free.

What are your thoughts on this tweak?

  • Ders some prob afta installing this tweak when ever I switch off my iPhone and start it then it keeps on looping back to back.. 🙁

  • At first i saw this post, the first thought that came to my mind is will it slow down my phone?
Glad that you mention it! Just installed it thanks 🙂

    • It won’t slow down your iPhone by any means. All it does is replace one ‘.png’ image with another. Or ‘.jpg’ if that happens to the be the image that you use.

      • Ori

Technically speaking it doesn’t replace the image files. It loads another image on run time. But yeah 🙂

found this a few days back .like

  • you guys are lucky im just fackin waiting for the jailbreak

If you’re jailbroke then just swap the originals for your own …

Go to : System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard and replace “BuddyLinen@2x~iphone.png” & “BulletinListLinen@2x.png” with your own images.

Then head to var/mobile/Library/Caches and delete “com.apple.SpringBoard.notificationCenterLinen” … Respring your device and that’s it. Obviously the images you want to use must be the same dimensions and filenames as the originals.

Yes tweaks are easy but I personally modify most things on my phone without tweaks because so many either conflict or just slow the phone down when editing the originals doesn’t.

    • The reason that Ori and I worked on making this tweak is so that you wouldn’t have to do it yourself.

      • Anonymous

I’m sure a few people with a lack of knowledge or desire to do it yourself will be over the moon that you made the tweak, personally i’m not 1 of them and for any1 interested I stated how to do it, regardless of why you made the tweak … not everybody wants to install a tweak to do such a trivial task.

I get some tweaks, they are game changers but for any1 that isn’t new to jailbreaking and fascinated with what you can do they might want to do something so simple without the need to install tweak after tweak .. you don’t have an issue surely with people maybe not wanting to use the tweak you made ??

u can add that israeli guy made it xD

    • Asaf, Maybe in an israeli site it would be nice, but in american blog – I think this thing is useless.

Too bad I cannot get this tweak to work on my iPad. When I try to select a photo I cannot. As in, the screen becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit Settings.app so I can go back in to change any other settings. The cancel and save buttons do nothing when tapped, as does any photo album.

    • Ori

I made an untested iPad compatible version that’s just waiting for a tester before I release it as an update.
