How to Mark Multiple Emails as Read in iOS 5

For the past few weeks, we’ve been showing you how to access some handy features in iOS 5. We’ve shown you how to create text shortcuts, and how to look up word definitions using iOS’ system-wide dictionary.

Now we’re going to show you how to mark multiple emails as read in iOS 5. This wasn’t something you could do before in iOS 4 without a jailbreak tweak, but it’s easy to do in the latest version of Apple’s mobile OS…

Start by opening up your Mail app.

Step 1. Select the inbox that you want to use, or if you want to do this across multiple accounts, select All Inboxes.

Step 2. Tap Edit in the top right hand corner of the app, and select the emails that you want to mark as read.

Step 3. Tap the Mark button in the bottom right hand corner, and select the Mark as Read option.

That’s all there is to it. Obviously, this wasn’t the most advanced tip in the world, but it could make your day if you didn’t know that it existed.

Bonus tip: This also works for marking multiple emails as unread, too.
