T-Mobile Joins Verizon to Support Samsung Against Apple Litigation

Just like Verizon did last week, T-Mobile has submitted an amicus curiae to the court, officially siding with Samsung in its ongoing litigation against Apple. For the non-lawyers, an amicus curiae is when someone volunteers to offer information to assist a court in deciding on an issue.

T-Mobile's argument is similar to Verizon's. Both company don't want to see any of their best-selling 4G devices banned during the holiday season. Obviously, it would be a huge loss for the carriers, who generate a big chunk of revenue from this time of the year...

Verizon Backs Samsung, Asks US Court to Deny Apple’s Injunction

Apple and Samsung's ongoing court battle has resulted in a temporary ban of Samsung products all over the globe. The Korean company has been blocked from selling its Galaxy tablet and other devices in Australia, Germany, and other countries.

Now, the duo prepares to square off in the United States, and things just got a lot more interesting. FOSSPatents is reporting that Verizon Wireless, the largest carrier in the country, just filed a motion to intervene on behalf of Samsung...

AT&T CEO: iPhone Competition Among Carriers is “Overblown”

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson recently responded to the rumor that Sprint would be getting the iPhone next month. During the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Stephenson described the effect of carriers adding the iPhone as being "always overblown" by the media.

AT&T feels that the iPhone's availability on more carriers does nothing, and will continue to do nothing, to the company's relevancy among its competition. Stephenson said that, "I’m very confident that we’ll do very well with” the new iPhone...

Verizon CEO Defends AT&T/T-Mobile Merger

If there's one thing I didn't expect to hear today, it's Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam give his approval to the AT&T/T-Mobile merger initiated earlier this year.

Of course, the potential business deal has been under scrutiny by the US Government, but AT&T intends to fight all the way to make the deal go through. Their argument? AT&T itself isn't happy with its network, and the company needs T-Mobile's network to increase its reliability. Surprisingly, Verizon agrees with that...

Verizon Starts Throttling Heavy Data Users

Following their announcement made in February that the company would be throttling data for the top 5% of its users, Verizon has officially started what they call "Network Optimization Practices," just in time for the iPhone 5 launch sometime next month.

These "Network Optimization Practices" consist of reducing the data speed of the top 5% of Verizon users, a.k.a those who are on an unlimited data plan and use more than 2GB of data per month...

Would You Switch to Sprint For Unlimited Data on the iPhone 5?

That's the question many will be pondering over the next month or so. It's widely expected that the iPhone will make the jump to its third official carrier when the iPhone 5 launches next month. With its launch, Sprint will finally gain access to what AT&T and Verizon have been enjoying for some time now.

Since it's Sprint, it pretty much goes without saying that their data plans will beat that of any plan offered on competing carriers. Sprint's main draw is the promise of real unlimited everything; that, of course, includes data. The question is, will it be enough to make you consider switching providers?

Radio Shack to Get Verizon iPhone 4 on September 15, Better Late Than Never?

9to5Mac is reporting that Radio Shack will start carrying the Verizon iPhone 4 in its retail stores on September 15, only a few weeks before Apple's expected iPhone 5 announcement.

Radio Shack has promised to sell Verizon handsets in September, but it's odd that they would choose to kick it all off with the iPhone 4. Why not just wait until the next iPhone comes out? Do they know something we don't?

Verizon Airs iPad 2 Ad Showing Off 3G Connectivity

In a new ad by Verizon, the iPad 2's 3G functionality is showcased. This is very unusual because iPad ads are usually produced by Apple.

The ad shows a person using their iPad in different environments, from the beach to the forrest. It also showcases Twitter and downloading books on the go...

Ask Jeff: Episode 04

Folks, we're back with Episode 04 of Ask Jeff. I wanted to thank everyone for all of the great questions; we had over 200 combined questions for Episode 03.

Unfortunately, that means that I didn't get to answer everyone's question, but I still managed to cover quite a few interesting inquiries this go 'round.

Inside, you'll find out how much money I've spent on Cydia tweaks over the years, whether I'd consider switching to Verizon, and what my first Apple product was.

In other words, tune in and prepare your questions; you won't want to miss this...

More Evidence Points Towards iPhone 5 as Global Device

TechCrunch's Robin Wauters reports what we have been assuming for quite some time now: the iPhone 5 will be a global world phone, by essentially enabling you to roam on any network worldwide.

The report lists the mounting evidence, which backs up this earlier claim by Verizon CFO Fran Shammo, that the next iPhone would indeed have the ability to roam globally.

This is very good news for travelers, who won't have to worry about the hassle of no coverage in areas where only one type of service (CDMA or GSM) is available...

Verizon to Offer $20 Data Plan, Serves up 300MB per Month

In this day in age it seems like carriers are more focused on "streamlining" their wireless plans rather than introducing new ones. In fact, AT&T followed up its unlimited data plan-ban by getting rid of its $10 SMS package.

Verizon, on the other hand, has just introduced a new wireless plan to serve up data for low-end customers. The $20 per month plan will give users 300MB of data per month, and is available now through September 30. Read on for more details...

iPhone 4 Beginning to Eat Android’s Lunch on Verizon

Apple's iPhone 4 has only been on sale on Verizon for around 6 months, but it's already stealing Android's lunch money, according to new stats from Chitika Insights this week.

The drop in Android sales since the iPhone 4 landed on Verizon's doorstep sees Google's mobile OS share dropping from 51.4% to 41.1% ...
