Unboxing

First look: iPhone 5s

I was so angry when I woke up this morning, because I woke up late, and I just knew that meant I wasn't going to get an iPhone 5s. Much to my surprise, my local Verizon store had plenty in stock, albeit, none were gold.

I was able to walk in, say I wanted an unlocked iPhone 5s, and walked out in less than 15 minutes. It was an overall uneventful experience, despite my tardiness.

I decided to go ahead and go with the 32GB Space Gray iPhone 5s. While initially I kind of dismissed this color option, it's not half bad when you see it in person. In fact, I think it's safe to say that this is the best looking iPhone ever, outside of maybe the Gold model if that's your thing.

First iPhone 5c/5s unboxing video and photos arrive

With less than three days left until the iPhone 5s/5c general availability, Apple this morning posted a reminder that both handsets are scheduled to go on sale on Friday, September 20 at 8:00am local time at Apple retail stores and at 12:01am PDT at the online Apple Store in the United States, United kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico and Singapore.

The company promised to release iOS 7 for public consumption on Wednesday so we think first iOS 7 and iPhone 5s/5c reviews will be hitting the web real soon. In the meantime, folks who pre-ordered Apple's cases for the new iPhones have reported receiving their shipment early.

And over in China, a few lucky customers who seem to have gotten their hands on the first iPhone 5s and 5c units posted photographic and video evidence of the unboxing as proof...

Google Nexus 10 unboxing and first impressions

Today I got my hands on the Google Nexus 10 in order to do a proper comparison with the iPad, and to stay up to date on the iPad's closest competitors. As you'll recall, I already did a review of the Nexus 7, and came away with a favorable impression of the device.

For the Nexus 10, a lot is the same as the Nexus 7, but a lot has changed as well. The most obvious difference is the form factor. This tablet competes directly with the iPad as far as size is concerned. You'll also notice a fairly original design, and one of the best, if not the best, screens on a tablet that you've ever seen...

iPad 4th generation unboxing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TteaMDNQbdQ

It's a little weird that I'm unboxing what is basically the same product that I unboxed back in March, but that's the way the product cycle rolls these days.

True, the new iPad 4 features a CPU that is twice as fast, and graphics that are twice as fast. It also features an updated FaceTime HD camera for high def video calling, along with the new Lightning connector. With all that said, practically everything else is exactly the same as the iPad 3, and it comes in at the exact same form factor.

As you can see, for the first time I opted to get an iPad in White. This will help me to quickly tell the difference between this and the previous generation iPad.

What about you? Did you decide to get an iPad 4, or are you holding out for a more drastic upgrade?

iPad mini unboxing

I went to several Walmart's last night at midnight in search of the elusive iPad mini, but alas, no dice. Fortunately I already had one ordered from the Apple Store as a backup plan.

I literally just received my mini in the mail via FedEx about 30 minutes ago. As always, I could hardly contain myself, but I made myself wait before tearing open the box so I could showcase this unboxing on video for you guys.

Have you received your iPad mini yet? What do you think about it thus far? Stay tuned, as we'll have tons of comparison articles and videos in the coming hours and days.

iPad mini Smart Cover unboxed

There's really not a lot to say here, because if you've ever used a Smart Cover before, you know exactly what to expect. With that said, there are, as we've previously noted, some changes with the way the hinge attaches to the iPad mini.

The magnets are now wrapped in polyurethane and micro-fiber, presumably to prevent the Smart Cover from scratching the mini's surface like full sized Smart Covers have been known to do. The all enclosed hinge also serves up a cleaner look when compared to its big brother.

What do you think? Have you ordered a Smart Cover to go with your iPad mini?

We unbox the new 5th generation iPod touch

Just about an hour ago I was able to get my hands on a brand new 32GB Slate Black 5th generation iPod touch. Here is our official unboxing video of Apple's revamped mobile gaming everything device.

The first thing you'll notice about the new iPod touch is how thin it is when compared with the iPhone 5. If you thought Apple's new iPhone was thin, wait until you get a load of the 5th generation iPod touch!

The second thing you'll notice is how drastically better the 5th generation is when compared to the previous generations. The new iPod touch is leaps and bounds above any previous touch when it comes to build quality. Even the screen looks amazing. What do you think? Oh, and uh, the Lightning cable is $19, not $29 like I mistakenly stated in the video.

iPhone 5 white & black unboxing

Just a few minutes ago, I got my hands on two 32GB iPhone 5's — one black, and one white. Join me, as I unbox both on video.

Which one do you think looks better? Did you get yours yet?

iPhone 5 unboxed

Well, it looks like the photo of the iPhone 5 box we posted earlier today is definitely legit. This, after BGR posts what they claim to be the world's first iPhone 5 unboxing.

I always thought that unboxings were only for video, but I guess they can appear in photo form as well. We look forward to bringing you a video unboxing, but in the meantime, these shots are admittedly pretty mouth watering.

Young artists and fragrance maker design the Apple unboxing scent

That distinctive scent felt upon unwrapping a newly purchased Apple product from its packaging? File this under the you-better-believe-it drawer: a trio of young artists from Australia have created a new fragrance that replicates the smell of a new MacBook Pro.

Based on a few ordinary aroma ingredients from suppliers in the south of France, the fragrance aims to recreate that unique and sexy olfactory experience associated with unboxing a shiny new Apple product.

I don't know about you, but I always stick my nose inside the box immediately upon unwrapping an Apple product (I also flip through magazines backwards and smell the shiny pages, too).

iPad (3rd generation) unboxing video

It's here folks. The new iPad has touched down at iDownloadBlog, and we have an unboxing video just for you.

We're happy to report that it's not much heavier or thicker than its predecessor — you probably won't notice it — while the Retina display is as good as advertised.

Stay tuned for more iPad 3 video goodness, and let us know what you think about our unboxing.

Apple TV (3rd generation) unboxing video

There's really not much to say here. If you've ever used or seen an Apple TV 2, then you know exactly what to expect here. Physically the two devices are indistinguishable.

The only difference between the 2nd generation Apple TV and the 3rd generation Apple TV is that the latter supports 1080p resolution courtesy of a new A5 single core chip. Other than there, everything inside the box, all of the connectors — everything — is the same...
