iPhone 5s is top-seller in the US with iPhone 5c close behind

Apple's new iPhone 5s became the top-selling smartphone in the US during September. New numbers show the 5s and 5c were among the top three smartphones sold by all four major domestic carriers.

Helped along by record sales, the iPhone 5s also replaced Samsung's Galaxy S4 as the best-selling smartphone among AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, according to Canaccord Genuity Friday...

The Verizon iPhone 5s comes unlocked just like the Verizon iPhone 5

It looks like we're 2 for 2 when it comes to unlocked iPhones on Verizon's network. As you all know, I picked up my Verizon iPhone 5s on launch day, but I haven't been able to test it out with a GSM sim card until today.

I walked into Walgreens just a few hours ago, and picked up one of T-Mobile's No Annual Contract kits that contains the SIM card starter kit. Unfortunately the SIM card that came with the kit was one of the old-school normal sized SIM cards (people still use those?), so I had to break out a pair of scissors and cut it down.

After a few minutes of manicuring the SIM card down to a nano size, I was ready to rock and roll. I popped out my Verizon SIM, inserted my T-Mobile SIM, and sure enough, I was on T-Mobile's "4G" network.

US carriers to open at 8 am Friday for iPhone launch

With Apple not offering pre-orders for the iPhone 5s, folks hoping to score the handset on launch day will have to make their way to a local retailer. A number of outlets will be selling the new iPhones on Friday, including Walmart and Radio Shack.

What time should you get there? Well some folks have already been in line for several days now. But if you're not that committed, we recommend getting there as early on Friday morning as possible. It looks like most retailers are opening at 8 am...

T-Mobile announces new iPhone pricing: $0 down for 5c, $99 down for 5s

Folks hoping to score one of Apple's new iPhones on the cheap may want to check out T-Mobile. The carrier has announced its pricing for the smartphones, which will allow customers to get an iPhone 5c for as little as $0 down, and the iPhone 5s for as little as $99 down.

Of course, those are just the up front costs. You'll have to pay off the rest of the device via monthly payments. The 16GB iPhone 5c, for example, will cost you $22 per month for 24 months, and the 16GB iPhone 5s will require you to make 24 monthly payments of $22.91...

Apple nows offers a single iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c version for AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile

As we continue to uncover interesting tidbits following Apple's introduction of the flagship iPhone 5s and the plastic iPhone 5c this morning, a little-appreciated fact has now come to light. Both new iPhones are offered in four different hardware varieties each versus three different cellular versions of the iPhone 5.

The consolidated 5s/5c models offer more LTE bands than before, but the coolest thing is that in the United States a single version now supports AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Additionally, a different version of the handsets will provide compatibility with Sprint and Japan's KDDI and Softbank carriers.

Previously, there used to be two different US flavors of the iPhone 5, one for the AT&T and T-Mobile and the other for Verizon and Sprint networks...

Apple’s budget-minded iPhone 5C will fit T-Mobile ‘like a glove’

Apple's much-expected iPhone 5C, noted for its multi-colored plastic body and inexpensive price, could become known for something more: mortally wounding cellular contracts. The test could come this month as Apple unveils the less-expensive iPhone at around what analysts believe will be $400-$500, unsubsidized. For the first time, US carrier T-Mobile - which doesn't require subscribers sign a two-year contract - will go head-to-head against traditional carriers AT&T and Verizon.

Both carriers may lose customers to T-Mobile as all four domestic carriers offer the new iPhones simultaneously, analysts say. While both AT&T and Verizon provide a subsidy on the iPhone's price in return for a two-year contract, T-Mobile lauds its absence of such a requirement. T-Mobile began selling the iPhone in April of 2013...

T-Mobile blacking out employee vacations for September 20 iPhone launch?

In another sign indicating Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S/5C could land on store shelves shortly following a rumored September 10 introduction, T-Mobile USA has reportedly blacked out vacations for its U.S. retail employees from Friday, September 20 and through Sunday, September 22.

While a new report cautions there's no telling whether the blocked period is related to new iPhones, Apple's handsets have historically made their way to retail stores a week or two after the official announcement so the nation's fourth-largest telco would be wise to ensure its retail army is ready for the big day...

T-Mobile ending ‘no money down’ promotion for iPhone 4S,5

If you were planning to pickup an iPhone 4S or 5 on T-Mobile anytime soon, you better act fast. According to a new report, the carrier is ending its popular '$0 down' promotion on the two handsets that it just started in late July.

The deal, which is said to be ending tomorrow for the aforementioned models, allowed new T-Mobile subscribers to purchase an iPhone with no downpayment, and monthly payments of around $25 until the phone was paid for...

T-Mobile sold 900K iPhones, 600K Galaxy S4s last quarter

Last night, T-Mobile announced its financials for its second quarter, and the numbers were fantastic. The carrier added more than 1 million new subscribers, and sold over 4 million smartphones during the 3-month period.

In the press release, the company wouldn't say how many of those 4 million phones were iPhones, only that the handset made up about 29% of their sales. During the conference call, though, it was much more forthcoming...

T-Mobile to carry ‘a whole array of Apple products’, CEO promises

I haven't forgotten what T-Mobile said last December about selling Apple products in 2013. “T-Mobile USA has entered into an agreement with Apple to bring products to market together next year,” the carrier's parent Deutsche Telekom wrote in a press statement back then.

Four months later, the nation's fourth-largest telco finally landed the iPhone and is now looking to add additional products to the mix. According to its outspoken CEO John Legere, T-Mobile is looking forward to carrying "a whole array of Apple product."

It's kinda expected that T-Mobile should next start offering iPad and perhaps iPod touch devices as well. The way Legere framed it sounds like the company may be eyeing non-iOS gear, too, such as Mac notebooks and perhaps even Apple's AirPlay wireless appliances...

T-Mobile posted its strongest customer growth in four years during Q2

T-Mobile US announced its financials for its second quarter last night, and the results are very impressive. Chock it up to finally landing the iPhone, the new 'Un-carrier' strategy—whatever it's doing, it's working. The carrier posted its strongest customer growth in 4 years.

In fact, believe it or not, T-Mobile led the US wireless industry in the second quarter, adding 685,000 branded postpaid phones and 1.1 million customers altogether. It also sold 4.3 million smartphones during the 3-month period, a year-over-year increase of 71 percent...

Study finds landing the iPhone saved T-Mobile from losing at least 300,000 customers

Even if it doesn't look like it on paper, this has been a big year for T-Mobile. Since January, the company has launched its LTE network, unveiled new plans, and has managed to get the attention of the larger carriers with its new 'Jump' device upgrade program.

But perhaps the biggest thing that happened to T-Mobile this year was that it finally inked an iPhone deal. Until March, it was the only major US carrier not offering the handset. And according to a new study, landing it likely saved them over 300,000 customers...
