T-Mobile drops another bombshell: we’ll pay your ETFs to switch

Last month, T-Mobile's John Legere hinted that his company was planning another 'uncarrier' event. The outspoken CEO sent out a tweet saying something like "time to eliminate another customer pain point? Time for Uncarrier 4?"

Well three weeks have gone by and we haven't really heard anything else from Legere on the matter, until just a few minutes ago when he took the stage at T-Mobile's CES event. As promised, he dropped another 'uncarrier' bombshell...

T-Mobile buys airwaves from Verizon, John Legere crashes AT&T’s CES 2014 party

As first hinted back in November, Deutsche Telekom-owned Un-carrier, T-Mobile USA, just bought $3.3 billion worth of spectrum from Verizon Wireless, the nation's top wireless carrier announced yesterday. The newly gained 700MHz spectrum licenses from Verizon should allow T-Mobile to take advantage of the low-band airwaves in nine of the top ten U.S. markets and 21 of the top 30.

What's in it for you? Think better 4G coverage in rural areas and inside buildings. T-Mobile paid $2.36 billion in cash and $950 million worth of spectrum, by the way.

Oh, and T-Mobile's CEO John Legere trolled AT&T’s CES 2014 party like a boss and got thrown out in the process. More on that right below...

AT&T luring T-Mobile customers to jump ship with up to $450 credit

T-Mobile's upcoming Uncarrier 4.0 initiative must have instilled the fear of God into AT&T because the nation's second-largest wireless carrier just announced it will offer up to $450 worth of credit to T-Mobile customers who jump ship.

The limited-time offer is in direct response to T-Mobile's upcoming Uncarrier 4.0 moves, set to be revealed at next week's CES in Las Vegas.

The carrier is hoping to poach T-Mobile customers by partly offering a gift card worth up to $250 for trading in their old phone, with the difference made up in the form of a credit rebate. The full reveal is after the break...

Get ready US carriers and subscribers, it looks like T-Mobile is about to introduce another game-changer. The company's outspoken CEO John Legere tweeted out this morning that it's time for them to 'eliminate another customer paint point.'

WSJ: Sprint looking to acquire T-Mobile USA

The Wall Street Journal is reporting this afternoon that Sprint is working on a potential T-Mobile USA purchase. The carrier is said to be looking into regulatory concerns right now, and a bid in upwards of $20 billion could come in early 2014.

A merger of these two wireless providers would be significant for a few reasons. For one, it would leave just 3 major competing carriers in the US. And two, Sprint and T-Mobile have a combined subscriber base close to that of AT&T and Verizon...

T-Mobile brings back $0 down deal for select iPhone models

Good news for folks looking to grab an iPhone on the cheap before Christmas. T-Mobile is reviving its Black Friday special for a limited time, taking away the down payments for select iPhone models making them completely free up front.

The promotion starts December 11—that's today—and includes 16GB models of the iPhone 5s and 5c, along with other devices. This means that, if you qualify, you wouldn't have to pay for either phone until you got your first monthly bill...

T-Mobile using MetroPCS spectrum to bolster its LTE network

Good news this weekend for T-Mobile customers. The carrier is finally taking advantage of its recent MetroPCS merger, and has begun rolling out higher-speed LTE service by tapping the airwaves it acquired as part of the acquisition.

According to a report from AllThingsD, T-Mobile quietly turned on the faster service in parts of North Dallas just before Thanksgiving. The higher speeds come by combining the spectrum from both T-Mobile’s and MetroPCS' networks...

T-Mobile offering iPhone 5s/5c with $0 down for Black Friday weekend only

Black Friday is just around the corner and TMoNews is reporting that T-Mobile USA will be offering Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c with $0 down on its usual installment plans, for the Black Friday weekend only, November 29. Following the weekend, limited time pricing "for these amazing devices" will be available beginning Cyber Monday, December 2, as per the carrier's internal memo.

I'm guessing these prices are for entry-level iPhones with sixteen gigabytes of storage. For those wondering, that’s a $149 saving on the iPhone 5s and a $49 saving on the iPhone 5c right off the bat as you’ll be paying about $20 per month for 24 months on T-Mobile's installment plans. I've included the full details right after the break...

The nation's fourth largest wireless carrier, T-Mobile, has flipped the switch on its fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network in twenty new markets across the country while confirming that even faster LTE roll-out is to be expected starting early next year. This new technology uses 20+20 towers on the 20MHz band and is capable of delivering a theoretical download speed of up to 150Mbps, or at least 50 percent higher than the download speeds offered by the current LTE implementation in use today...

How to switch to T-Mobile the right way

I recently reached the uneventful end to my two and a half year run with Verizon Wireless. After flirting with the possibility for a few weeks, I decided to take the jump, and port my phone numbers over permanently to T-Mobile. I guess you could say that I fell for a very effective marketing strategy, but it's hard to argue with the fact that I will be saving a bunch of money each month by switching.

My current Verizon bill is approximately $165 every month; that's with two iPhones, and an iPad. A comparable setup on T-Mobile should position me well within the $100 range, effectively saving me around the ballpark of $60 each month.

Granted, this isn't a cookie cutter solution for everyone; there's tons to consider before taking the plunge, but I think it will work out nicely for me. It could work out nicely for you too, as long as you take into consideration a few important points...

T-Mobile considering buying $3B worth of airwaves from rival Verizon

It is no secret that T-Mobile USA, the nation's fourth-largest wireless carrier, could use some additional spectrum to expand its network and improve the quality of its coverage.

According to Reuters, the Deutsche Telekom-owned telco is mulling the possibility of buying $3 billion worth of additional spectrum from its rival Verizon Wireless.

A source familiar with the matter told Reuters yesterday evening that T-Mobile might agree to the price as it needs more to bolster up its network coverage and quality...

Some thoughts on iPad mini with Retina display

As you’ll hear me recount on the upcoming episode of Let’s Talk iOS, I had to go through quite a lot to get my hands on the iPad mini with Retina display that I desired. The model, a Space Grey 32GB Cellular version with a bundled T-Mobile sim, proved to be a pretty tough get.

But I finally did get my iPad mini, and I’ve been able to spend the last few days truly analyzing the device, and analyzing whether or not the time I invested into acquiring it was worth the hassle.

You’ve likely read plenty of other reviews that pretty much spout off the same thing. Yes, the mini now has an awesome screen, has the same guts as the iPad Air, and it did so by compromising some of its thinness. So what’s the end result? Is this a good product? Will it go down as the best iPad ever? I share my thoughts inside.
