Significant progress made on Electra jailbreak for iOS 11.3.1

It wasn’t long ago that security researcher Ian Beer released a handful of convenient exploits for some of the latest iterations of iOS 11, and now CoolStar's Electra jailbreak tool is well on its way to supporting these particular firmware versions as a result.

While the official Electra web page hasn’t been updated with a new version of the tool just yet, the Electra Team continues to update the jailbreak community with progress milestone announcements as they transpire.

KeenLab demos first iOS 12 jailbreak

Apple isn’t planning to release iOS 12 to the masses until sometime this Fall, but that hasn’t stopped renowned security researcher Liang Chen of KeenLab from flexing his digital muscles.

Chen shared the following video this weekend from his Twitter account that depicts a working jailbreak on an iPhone X running iOS 12 beta 1:

Ian Beer’s new VFS exploit facilitates various iOS 11.3.1-centric jailbreak projects

Ian Beer’s newly-released tfp0 exploit for iOS 11.3.1 ignited a lot of hope for a corresponding jailbreak tool, and it shouldn’t be long before jailbreak tool developers like CoolStar are able to deliver a functional product to the public masses.

But Beer hasn’t stopped there; the renowned security researcher shared a new proof-of-concept VFS exploit dubbed ‘empty_list’ on Twitter this Wednesday that seems to be facilitating innovative works in the jailbreak community.

Security researcher Richard Zhu demos iOS 11.4 jailbreak

Renowned security researcher Ian Beer recently outed yet another tfp0 exploit, this time for iOS 11.3.1. But while certain jailbreak developers are hard at work on a public jailbreak tool that utilizes said exploit, others seem to be moving ahead and devising jailbreaks for newer versions of iOS.

A video shared in a Tweet by Richard Zhu this week appears to demonstrate a functional jailbreak on an iOS 11.4 device.

Apple stops signing iOS 11.3.1 following the release of Ian Beer’s new exploit

Apple stopped signing iOS 11.3.1 on Friday, a move that prevents most iPhone and iPad users from downgrading their firmware to anything older than iOS 11.4.

iOS 11.4 was just released about a week ago, so this news shouldn’t come off as much of a surprise. Nevertheless, it’s sure to drum up some disappointment considering the likelihood that iOS 11.3.1 will gain jailbreak support thanks to a new tfp0 exploit released by security researcher Ian Beer.

Don’t expect new hardware at WWDC 2018

WWDC 2018

Are the keys on your MacBook Pro falling off? Has your first-generation iPad Air slowed to a halt? If you were hoping to see new hardware products revealed at next week's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), you might be out of luck, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Security researcher Ian Beer teases tfp0 exploit for iOS 11.3.1

Matrix code hacked iPhone.

The name Ian Beer should sound pretty familiar by now, as he was the security researcher behind the tfp0 exploit for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 that made CoolStar’s popular Electra jailbreak tool possible.

But Beer is about to become even more popular after a Tweet shared Tuesday afternoon. It appears that he may have yet another tfp0 exploit up his sleeve; only this time, it supports firmware as new as iOS 11.3.1.

Houdini ‘semi-jailbreak’ tool demoed on iOS 11.4 beta

If you’re up to speed on everything happening in the jailbreak community as of late, then you might be familiar with the Houdini semi-jailbreak created by Abraham Masri (@cheesecakeufo) many months ago.

While it isn’t a full-fledged jailbreak like Electra and Yalu are, it does provide users with a basic way of customizing their device(s) outside of Apple’s stock parameters, and Masri has just demonstrated a successful Houdini semi-jailbreak on Apple’s latest iOS 11.4 beta:

Apple stops signing iOS 11.3

Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3 on Wednesday, a move that prevents iPhone and iPad users from downgrading or restoring to this particular version of iOS through iTunes.

The Cupertino-based company regularly stops signing older iOS versions just a couple of weeks after releasing a new software update. Given how Apple just released iOS 11.3.1 a little more than a week ago, this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

KeenLab demos a jailbroken iPhone X with iOS 11.3.1

KeenLab is renowned for demonstrating successful jailbreaks on Apple’s latest firmware, and it seems that they’ve done it once again.

Presenting at InfiltrateCon 2018, KeenLab security researcher Liang Chen demonstrated a fully-jailbroken iPhone X running iOS 11.3.1, which was released by Apple less than one week ago as of this writing.
