Google+ for iOS kills in-app Messenger, adds Google Apps and Drive integration

After giving Google+ for Android its fair share of love earlier in the week, the Internet giant Google today pushed a new version of its universal iPhone and iPad app.

In accordance with the announcement back on Tuesday, the new build gets rid of the built-in Messenger feature as the focus turns to the new Hangouts app which was created to consolidate Google's many chat services under a single umbrella.

Google+ version 4.5 also features Google Apps domain support and lets you view, edit and share photos stored in your Google Drive...

O.K., so you are sitting around, thinking about what you want to eat for dinner, but you can’t decide. Should you go out to sushi? Maybe it would be easier to have a pizza delivered. Maybe you should finally start that diet and have a nice piece of chicken. Some decisions are too hard to make.

Twitter #music updated with personalized recommendations, new ways of discovering music

Twitter's #music app launched in April as a way to discover music people share on Twitter. The micro-blogging giant updated the software in June with new discovery charts and the addition of genres. Since then, we haven't heard much from Twitter on the music front until today's version 1.3 update which expands on content discovery with new tools while adding the ability to scan your music library to provide personalized recommendations...

Facebook now lets you embed public posts in web pages

I've always liked embed codes. For someone who blogs for a living, being able to accentuate my writing with punchy YouTube videos, detailed Scribd documents, obnoxious Vine clips, pretty Instagrams, Twitter outbursts and other kinds of embeddable media more often than not makes a marked difference between mindless re-writes and stories that entertains readers while providing a deeper understanding of the topic at hand.

Twitter's Vine and Facebook's Instagram, for instance, have just recently begun supporting embed codes. Not to be outdone by (primarily) Twitter, the world's dominant social network is now permitting users to inject whole statuses and photos into blog posts, web pages, instant messages and just about anywhere on the web...

Study finds users more likely to share web content via iPhone versus other devices

Social media marketing company ShareThis has just posted data from a recent study of social behavior across multiple platforms. The study, which compared billions of social actions across desktop and mobile web, set out to determine which devices see the most social sharing.

And surprise, the data shows that the mobile web is more social than the desktop web, and among mobile devices, the iPhone is king. The firm found that iPhone users are three times more likely to share links than on a desktop, and 1.5 times more likely to do so versus other mobile devices...

Twitterrific gains Today view, better photo viewing, sleeker UI and notable bug fixes

Twitterrific on iOS with its flattened interface and light typeface may have paved the way for the iOS 7 redesign. But Twitterrific is much more than a prettified Twitter client. I typically use Tweetbot for my daily tweeting needs on mobile and desktop, but Twitterrific has always been my second choice.

In an update today, Twitterrific has gained a sidebar item called Today, basically an overview of your most recent favorites, retweets and new followers...

Flipboard mags hit the web

The social news reading experience that is Flipboard used to be the exclusive realm of smartphones and tablets. Back in March, a major 2.0 update brought out the ability to create one's own custom magazines. Since then, users have created an astounding two million custom publications so today the startup confirmed Flipboard magazines can now finally be enjoyed on the web, through any standard desktop web browser.

The new feature brings Flipboard closer to becoming a viable Google Reader replacement. Google's web-based RSS client, you'll recall, allowed you to tag articles and share all the articles tied to a specific tag as a live-updated stream on a specially created web page...

Path prettifies iPad interface, launches stickers in comments

If you said Path had started this whole stickers craze with its March update, you wouldn't be lying. It's been a while since Path has seen any significant update, but the team saw to that with today's version 3.1 update.

So what's new, you ask...

Two takeaways: Path 3.1 takes stickers to comments while refreshing the iPad edition with improved navigation in both landscape and portrait views.

Yes, you can now enjoy a fully functioning composer button and feed in landscape on your Apple tablet. And akin to Facebook's Chat Heads feature, any conversations you’re having with friends are simply one tap away in the new Path build...

Twitter updates iOS and Mac app with DM syncing

The most annoying thing about Twitter's iOS and Mac client has finally been fixed: your DMs now sync properly across devices and platforms. This means reading a DM on iPhone will mark it as read on desktop, and vice versa. In fact, Twitter will now properly sync your read/unread DMs in all official Twitter apps, including the web interface at twitter.com, the mobile UI at mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for Android and TweetDeck, another Twitter-owned property...

Instabot takes your Instagram experience to a new level

I am a big fan of Instagram. It is my favorite social networking site right now. I much prefer looking at photos of my friend’s dinner plates than reading about how sick they got from eating it. Unfortunately, Instagram’s user interface is uninspiring. I am always looking for a third-party app that lets me access my feed with a different theme.

Instabot is a third-party app that, not only lets you view Instagram photos, but also lets you take, edit, and upload pictures to your feed. You can also keep track of who follows you and how often they interact with your posts…
