Vooma’s Peel Case Gives Your iPhone a Second SIM Card

TechCrunch spotlights an interesting new case from the folks over at Vooma. The accessory adds a second SIM card slot to your iPhone. You might recognize some of Vooma's previous work, which includes other iDevice products like the iPod touch Peel 3G case.

We've seen cases like this before, which add a second line to the handset via an integrated SIM card slot. But this is the first time that we've seen one that is compatible with the new iPhone 4S. Don't get too excited though, as it does have one major caveat...

Travelers Will Want to Consider the iPhone 4S on Verizon or Sprint [Updated]

We already knew that the iPhone 4S was going to be the first world phone to come out of the Apple labs, and that meant that both GSM and CDMA handset flavors would roam on the networks of international carriers. This was good news, meaning that customers of both Verizon and Sprint could now take their handsets abroad and continue to use them.

Now, there's even better news for those customers, with Macworld discovering that they might actually have an advantage over AT&T (and all other GSM carriers across the planet), thanks to the unlocked SIM slot on the CDMA iPhone 4S...

Gevey SIM Unlocks iOS 4.3.5

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.5. The update fixed a security vulnerability with certificate validation. If you jailbreak and use UltraSn0w, stay away from this update. But if you are a Gevey SIM user, we have some good news.

Even though we previously reported that Apple blocked the Gevey SIM in iOS 5 Beta 2 and above, the Gevey SIM works with iOS 4.3.5...

Gevey SIM Unlocks iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3.4

The Gevey SIM supports an unlock for the iPhone 4 on Apple's latest firmware, iOS 4.3.4. Apple recently pushed the 4.3.4 update to combat the exploit uncovered by the jailbreak tool, JailbreakMe, in iOS 4.3.3.

If you upgrade to iOS 4.3.4, you lose your untethered jailbreak. But the Gevey SIM still works...

New Dual SIM Case Adds a Second Line to Your iPhone 4

You might recall that earlier this year, there was a rumor going around that the next iPhone would feature dual SIM card slots. This would allow users to connect multiple phone lines to the device, eliminating the need to carry multiple phones.

While we haven't heard any follow-up information suggesting Apple's next smartphone will sport the dual SIM option, we have seen several accessory makers offer the feature for the current line of iPhones. The latest product we've seen surface, just like the Rebel 2Phone, adds a second SIM tray to your iPhone 4 via a removable case...

iOS 4.3.4 to Block Gevey SIM?

iOS 4.3.4 is expected to be released soon because of the JailbreakMe 3.0 leak, and a lot of people are wondering if this will block the Gevey SIM from working. As we have posted previously, Apple has blocked the use of the Gevey SIM unlock in iOS 5 Beta 2.

This block also comes after Apple released an unlocked iPhone 4 in the U.S. for use on any carrier (mostly T-Mobile)...

Gevey SIM Blocked on iOS Beta 2

The Gevey SIM allows you to unlock your iPhone without the need of a jailbreak. The SIM card force activates the iPhone's baseband by exploiting the emergency dialer function.

Apple released iOS 5 Beta 2 last night, and it appears that the Gevey SIM is now blocked from working in this second iOS build. It's suspected that Gevey will try to battle Apple's patching of its interposer while iOS 5 is still in the beta testing stages.

New GEVEY Ultra SIM iPhone 4 Unlock, No More Dialing 112

Apple may not want you to unlock your iPhone, but GEVEY sure does. The company has just released a new solution to the iPhone 4 unlock problem. If you're tired of waiting for a software unlock to come out, you may just want to keep reading.

We've talked about GEVEY SIM cards before, but the Ultra is supposed to be the end-all unlock solution for the iPhone 4. It works with every version of firmware from iOS 4.0 - iOS 5, as well as several basebands...

Gevey SIM Will Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5

Following the news that RedSn0w will jailbreak iOS 5, an unlock solution for the iPhone 4 on iOS 5 has also been uncovered. The Gevey SIM is a TurboSIM-like piggy back SIM card that will unlock iPhone 4 basebands.

On iOS 5, it appears that the Gevey SIM will still unlock the iPhone 4. Be warned: the Gevey SIM is technically illegal, so we do not recommend this method for unlocking the iPhone 4 on iOS 5.

AT&T Working On Smaller SIM Cards Just Like Apple

In an interview at All Things Digital's D9 conference, AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega hinted that the mobile phone carrier is working on a new, smaller SIM card standard for future smartphones just as Apple is already confirmed to be.

According to AppleInsider, the comment came after All Things Digital's Ina Fried asked about the possibility of a new embedded SIM card as Apple had been rumored to favor, saving valuable space inside ever-shrinking handsets...
