Nicely done mini iPad dummy in hand

As an avid reader of this blog, you must have read all there is about purported iPad mini cases, the device's rumored shrunken down shell and other leaked parts. You've also seen mockups depicting its skinner side bezels and thin design and marveled at the nicely done interactive three-dimensional model.

All of the above, of course, is based on what the rumor-mill thinks it knows so far about Apple's purportedly inexpensive, smaller iPad. It was only a matter of time before someone envisioned what an iPad mini held in your hand would look like, right as we're approaching its rumored October launch...

Photo shows iPad mini and iPhone 5 cases compared to an iPhone 4S

Just one more day to go until Apple's highly-anticpated iPhone event, and surprise surprise, we have more purported case leaks. This time, it's a photo of an iPad mini and iPhone 5 case, among a 4S and others.

The purpose of the image is to give us an idea of how the unannounced devices measure up to their predecessors. And it's actually really interesting to see how the iPad mini compares to the third-gen iPad...

New photos of purported iPad mini shell surface

It's not known for sure whether Apple will unveil its smaller tablet during next week's event, or at a separate gig in October. But according to a long line of reports from credible sources, it's coming.

And as the anticipated launch inches closer, more and more claimed parts have begun to surface. Tonight, we've come across photos of what is believed to be a legitimate iPad mini shell...

Check out this interactive 3D model of iPad mini

Ahead of the next week's iPhone 5 presser and a rumored mini iPad introduction in October, an interesting three-dimensional interactive model of Apple's rumored inexpensive, smaller iPad has hit the web this morning, based on leaked parts and several notable pieces of information that have been floating around the blogosphere.

All the rumors appear to point to a relocated headphone jack located next to the dock connector which, as you know, should be much smaller to allow for thinner designs, just like on the next iPhone. Based on this information, 3D artists created a highly-detailed 3D interactive model of the rumored mini iPad...

New mini iPad mockups show the skinner side bezels and thin design

Building upon a mid-August report calling for a smaller iPad with an iPod touch-thin profile and smaller bezels on the sides of the display, case makers have begun producing physical mockups of what they believe Apple's rumored iPad mini might look like. Granted, case vendors have been wrong more often than right (hint: last year's teardrop-shaped iPhone cases), but a pair of new mockups do align nicely with claimed iPad mini schematics and other tidbits circulating around the web lately...

Developer finds tracks of the iPad mini in server logs

As the rumored October launch date of the iPad mini inches closer, evidence of the tablet's existence is starting to pick up. We've seen rear shells, dock connectors and even cases that reportedly belong to the device.

And today, it looks like even more proof has surfaced. An iOS developer is reporting that he has spotted two new iPad devices in his app logs, which he believes could be variations of Apple's highly-anticpated new tablet...

Report says Apple’s smaller tablet will indeed be called iPad mini

With Apple's media event (or two media events) getting closer, the rumor mill has gone into full swing. Earlier today, reports surfaced regarding the new iPod touch, and nano. And now this.

Citing an Asian source, Japanese blog Macotakara says it has learned that Apple will be in fact calling its smaller tablet the "iPad mini" — a name used often by the media to describe the device...

Confirmed? iPad mini event to be held in October

Up until a couple days ago, it was the general assumption that the iPad mini would be unveiled at the same time as the new iPhone, likely on September 12. To be honest, I never thought that would be the case (see conclusion of my Nexus 7 review), but I never really cared to explain why. On Thursday, John Gruber took it to his blog to explain why it didn't make sense for Apple to hold one event to unveil both the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini.

And he makes lots of sense. Why would Apple unveil two major products at the same time and risk diluting the publicity around both of them. As Gruber himself puts it, "Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage?"

Turns out he was right, as a semi official confirmation coming minutes later from legendary Jim Dalrymple brought credibility to the claim. Today, AllThingsD confirmed the story with their own sources and though there has been no official word from Apple on the matter, it does seem like the iPad mini will be unveiled in October...

Purported iPad mini cases match up with rumored design

If you haven't noticed lately, part leaks for Apple's rumored iPad mini have started to pick up over the past few weeks. Last weekend, the tablet's dock connector assembly surfaced. And a few days before that we saw its audio jack.

These pieces should help alleviate some of the skepticism that the smaller iPad doesn't exist that came along with no physical evidence. But if you're still on the fence about the slate, check out these new iPad mini cases...

Apple to hold separate events for new iPhone and iPad mini?

Up to this point, we've been assuming that Apple would unveil the iPad mini alongside the new iPhone at its September 12 event. Why? Because the often-accurate Rene Ritchie said so, and his report, at least the date, has been confirmed by a number of news outlets.

But today, John Gruber of Daring Fireball contests the information, making a pretty strong case for why Apple would hold two separate events. He opines that since the iPhone is Apple's single most important product, it's unlikely that it would share the spotlight...

Apple reportedly asking resellers to clear iPad display space

Apple is going to unveil a new smartphone next month, there's very little doubt about that. And an iPod refresh is also pretty much a given. But a new, smaller iPad, though, seems to be much less of a certainty.

A new report, however, is out this afternoon, that adds weight to the theory. According to some of Apple's premium retailers, the company has recently asked them to start tripling their iPad display space...

Report calls for iPad mini production to ramp up in September

We've opined, in the past, that the reason we haven't seen many leaked iPad mini parts may be because the tablet is simply not as far along in production as the next-gen iPhone — a device for which part leaks have been ample.

And according to a new report, that might just be the case. Citing sources from Apple's upstream supply chain, the note says that Apple isn't expected to begin volume production of the smaller iPad until September...
