New single-day record for iPad sales and activations for AT&T

Apple CEO Tim Cook said just this morning that the new iPad has broken records during its first weekend on sale, and now AT&T is also touting the tablet's successes.

AT&T spokesmen Seth Bloom said in a tweet this morning that the carrier has broken its own iPad sales and activation records over release weekend, with Friday seeing the biggest numbers to date.

That's no mean feat considering AT&T has had the iPad since day one, and that Verizon's LTE network is arguably stronger in the United States than AT&T's own. Cue Verizon's figures showing similar results...

Apple announces record iPad sales this weekend

Apple's new iPad may have been released on Friday, but the company is already crowing about its sales performances.

New CEO Tim Cook was asked about the new iPad's sales results during the conference call the company just held to explain what it is doing with that $100 billion war chest, and the answer was a simple one: Apple is "thrilled" by the iPad's performance.

Cook also went on saying that the new iPad had produced a "record weekend" although he did not elaborate on that comment. For all we know, he could mean the new iPad holds the record for most pixels, or shiniest box...

Apple could break through its 100 millionth iPad this year

Apple is currently the top tablet manufacturer, leading over Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Samsung, and more. Apple's iPad sold an astonishing 15 million units in its 2011 holiday quarter alone, bringing the total number of iPads sold to about 55 million.

According to a few new reports from analysts, they suspect Apple could sell its 100 millionth iPad in 2012...

AT&T Set to Smash Quarterly Sales Record This Holiday Thanks to iPhone 4S

US wireless provider AT&T is set to smash its own quarterly sales record after announcing that it has sold roughly 6 million smartphones in the first two months of the fourth quarter.

That mammoth result means that the carrier needs to sell just 100,000 smartphones during the last month of this quarter in order to match its current record, which was set during the third quarter of last year.

The reason for AT&T having such a great quarter? The iPhone 4S, of course...

Tutorial: The Easiest Way to Enable HD Video Recording on the iPhone 3GS

We recently linked to a Cydia app that was rumored to enable HD video recording on the iPhone 3GS. Apparently, that app didn't work. There is, however, an easy way to enable HD recording through some file modifications on your iPhone 3GS.

The 3GS has had the ability to shoot in HD since it was released. Apple, for whatever reason, places a software limitation on the 3GS video recording capabilities. The ARM Cortext processor inside the 3GS is more than capable of handling 720p video encoding. I'm going to walk you through the easiest way to enable HD video recording on your 3GS...

Record Your iPhone Screen With Display Recorder

Today is a busy day for Ryan Petrich, who just released DisplayOut and is now releasing Display Recorder.

Just like ScreenRecorder, Display Recorder records your iPhone screen in real time. Thanks to this application, you can now easily record what's going on on your iPhone screen.

Here is a list of features available on DisplayRecorder:

Records directly to high quality AVI Web interface to manage recordings On-device YouTube uploading Adjustable framerate & quality settings Hardware accelerated video encoding Activator integration for quick access Remote control via web interface

Unlike ScreenRecorder, Display Recorder uses little resources, you're not limited in the video length, and it is generally much more stable. The app also allows you to export your videos directly to YouTube.

Display Recorder is available from Cydia for $4.99. It is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G only.

Record Videos On Your iPhone 2G or 3G With iVideoCamera

Until now, the only way you could record videos on your iPhone 2G or 3G was to jailbreak it and use Cycorder. For some reason, Apple didn't deem necessary adding video recording to the 2G or 3G, even though this isn't a hardware issue, but simply a software one.

This week, Apple finally approved the first video recording app in the App Store. The application is called iVideoCamera and can record videos at a whopping 3 fps... According to MacNN:

Users will be limited to one-minute segments at 3 frames per second, while the resolution is just 160x213. The developer, Laan, claims the next update will bring improvements to the frame rate, resolution, and clip length.

Just like the video camera of the iPhone 3GS, iVideoCamera allows you to save your videos directly to your camera roll and share them on FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo or Twitter.

iVideoCamera [iTunes Link] is available from the App Store for $0.99.

Record Videos On Your iPhone 2G/3G With Cycorder

Are you an iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G owner feeling left out by the lack of video recording on your iDevice? Rejoice because I have good news for you. You don't have to spend $$$ on the new iPhone 3GS to get video recording capability.

This might sound like old news to some of our readers, but for those of you who don't know, it is possible to record videos on your iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G thanks to an application called Cycorder. I wrote about Cycorder in the past but I think this app deserves more attention, especially from all the iPhone noobies (no offense).

Cycorder allows you to record videos on your iPhone at the maximum speed of the iPhone camera (6-15 frames per second). That's not great, but it's better than nothing...

How to record video on your iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G?

First, if you haven't already done so, you'll have to jailbreak your iPhone. If you're hesitant about jailbreaking, understand it's very safe and besides being able to record videos, there are many many other reasons to jailbreak your iPhone.

Then simply launch Cydia and install Cycorder.

One installed, open Cycorder and start recording videos. It's that simple!

When you record a video, it is stored as a .mov movie on your iPhone in /var/mobile/Media/Videos. Use iPhoneBrowser or SSH to get the video from your iPhone to your computer and then you can email it or put it on YouTube.

Here is a video I shot a few weeks ago with Cycorder. It will give you a good idea about the quality of sound and images.

A look at Audio Notes

There are many folks and companies who thought of developing voice recorders for iPhone ages back. The evidence being a vast array of voice recorders available on iTunes App Store and we are glad that developers are providing us with some exceptional voice recording tools right on our iPhone.

Ever since I got my iPhone I have tried a bunch of audio recorders. Until recently the one which I loved the most was Newpea Audio Recorder mainly because of its ease of use and the ability to save files in mp3/mp4 format. By clicking on a button inside the application one can start recording and once the recording is done, the user can click on the file either to playback, rename or delete the file. Sounds pretty neat right, and you get this at a price of $9.99.

I was quite happy with the application but wished it had the option of recording right from the moment the application was launched and also the ability to write short notes for every recording so that I could better organize and find the right audio files at the right time without having to make much effort. Then again on second thoughts I felt I was just hoping against hopes and that developers wouldn’t care a damn about selected few like me demanding these features.

But Surprise! Surprise! On 31st October, a brilliant application called Audio Notes [iTunes Link] was released in the App Store. It not alone puts a check on two of the items on my wish-list (1. Immediate recording on launch; and 2. Short notes for the recorded audio) but also released a few other new and very useful features.

It brought out an option of prioritizing notes by assigning different colors to each of them. Moreover, an alert system is provided where you can set the date and time so that you are reminded about your notes when they matter the most. (The user is however alerted only after launching the app, wish there was a mechanism by which the application could act as an alarm and buzz the user to remind him to check the note).

Now the icing on the cake: Using this application you can directly export your recorded audio notes to the PC using WiFi via FTP in order to make a permanent backup of the same on your computer or upload them onto net. All in all, the application works like a charm and provides great value for money. At $2.99, its not at all expensive given the fact that it can bail you out of your work woes!
