WordPress launches native Mac app

If you blog in any capacity at all, chances are you're on WordPress, the world's top blogging platform that now powers one out of each four websites on the Internet. Automatic, the company behind WordPress, has been updating its mobile blogging app on a regular basis and today they're introducing a brand new WordPress for Mac app.

Billed as “a new way to write,” the free app lets you manage, edit and publish content to your WordPress-hosted or self-hosted sites and WordPress VIP ones.

The Mac app is available now alongside a thorough redesign of wordpress.com, both of which are also going open-source today with the launch.

Apple working on brand new iPhone app for all your support, repair and troubleshooting needs

Apple is working on a standalone app meant to make it easier for its customers to access a variety of helpful resources, documents and manuals whilst streamlining the repair and troubleshooting process, according to prolific Australia-based leaker Sonny Dickson who shared a few purported screenshots of a yet-to-be-named software with uSwitch.

Facebook releases a version of Messenger that’s meant for the office

Facebook today launched a dedicated version of its mobile messaging software, Facebook Messenger, that's meant to be used at work.

As reported on by TechCrunch, the applications is called Work Chat and available now for Android smartphones over at Google's Play Store, while a version for iPhones is being worked on and scheduled to release soon.

The app is basically an expansion of Facebook at Work, the company's business platform which has been in private testing for months now.

New Microsoft app, Forum for iPhone, lets employees speak their mind freely

Microsoft continues releasing mobile apps for the iPhone first before they eventually trickle down to the “other” operating systems. The latest example: Forum, a new iPhone application born out of Microsoft's Garage division responsible for skunkworks projects.

It was conceived to help employees within an organization speak their mind and state their opinion on any topic.

Fellow workers can then vote on your favorite posts (and optionally flag them) and find out what everyone else is really thinking about any given topic. Forum is a free download and available primarily to businesses.

Readdle launches PDF Expert for Mac

Ukrainian developer Readdle has released a Mac edition of its popular PDF management app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, PDF Expert.

Available for $19.99 in the Mac App Store, this powerful app will empower your PDF workflow on the Mac and increase your productivity.

It includes such features as smooth scrolling and fast search, robust editing and annotation tools and more.

File exchange with other apps is much simplified through the Mac's multi-purpose Share sheet and the app supports Continuity and Handoff to allow seamless switching between PDF Expert on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Mac, and much more.

Facebook releases Notify for iPhone for news, sports, weather and other alerts

Facebook on Wednesday announced it's releasing a brand new mobile application, Notify for iPhone. Conceived as a mobile notifications app for news, sports, weather and more, Notify was designed to deliver push notifications “that matter from sources you love, right on your lock screen, all in one place.”

Notifications are grouped into “stations” which cover varied categories, from sports and celebrities to news, movies, music, shopping and more. Notify is an English-only iPhone app available for free in the App Store.

Alien: Isolation – The Collection swarms its way into Mac App Store

In addition to releasing Tomb Raider: Anniversary in the Mac App Store this morning, Mac gaming specialist Feral Interactive also unleashed another premium title in the store, Alien: Isolation - The Collection, a survival horror game set fifteen years after Alien.

This gigantic 20.89-gigabyte download packs in all previously released downloadable content, including two stand-alone missions set aboard the Nostromo and five mission packs adding new maps, playable characters and challenges to the Survivor and Salvage modes.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary hits Mac App Store

Tomb Raider: Anniversary, the grand reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider video game for the new audience, is now available on the Mac as a $9.99 download in the Mac App Store. The Room Three hits the App Store

Following the success developer Fireproof Games has seen with The Room and The Room Two, it's now posted the third installment in the series to the App Store. Following the established naming convention, the game is aptly titled The Room Three and priced at $4.99 a pop.

For those who haven't played Fireproof's BAFTA award winning Room games yet, the physics-based puzzle series challenges you to navigate the trials devices located on a deserted island by rotating, zooming and examining dozens of artifacts in order to discover their hidden secrets.

Review: Emojify turns your photos into emoji artwork, ASCII art and more

Have you ever wanted to effortlessly create a collage of emoji emoticons from your own photos? As in, with just a few taps and no prior Photoshop knowledge whatsoever?

I'm a big sucker for ASCII art and there certainly is no shortage of such apps in the App Store, but I wanna move beyond ASCII and have the freedom to create collages based on my iPhone's emoji keyboard.

I'm also interested in experimenting with app icons and other icons sets. If you're anything like me, you'll want to check out Emojify, a cool iPhone app by Singapore-based studio called VoidWorks.

With Emojify, you can quickly turn your pixels into pieces of art comprised of a bunch of tiny icons and emoji characters, and even export them in high-resolution to create stunning 20-by–20 inch prints.

Secret Apple app lets you map out building interiors using your iPhone

Apple has a secret app in the App Store which allows some iPhone users to map the interior of a building using their handset. First discovered yesterday by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, an app called Indoor Survey has been available on the App Store since last week.

The software is currently hidden in the App Store and is not operational, suggesting that the official launch is around the corner.

Basically a funnel for Apple's MapsConnect website, the app appears to act as a crowdsourced Ground Truth service aimed at improving the accuracy of Apple Maps data when it comes to indoor maps.
