Apple's newly-announced macOS Sierra is set to release to the public this Fall as the company revealed at WWDC 2016 this week, and it includes a variety of improvements that will make using your Mac even better than ever.

One of those improvements is Universal Clipboard, which is a Continuity feature that lets you share your clipboard between your iOS device(s) and your Mac.

Apple is shaking up the App Store, but what about its OS X counterpart? Sure, the new subscription terms extend to iOS, tvOS and OS X apps, but what's Apple going to do, if anything, in order to make the Mac App Store a more attractive venue for Mac software distribution?

We should find out what's next for the Mac App Store next week at WWDC. In the meantime, here's what developers are disliking about it, based on a DevMate survey which polled about 700 Mac developers.

Microsoft rolls out Planner to all eligible Office 365 customers worldwide

Microsoft today said that its new productivity and teamwork app, called Planner, is now rolling out to all eligible Office 365 customers worldwide. “Beginning today, Planner will start rolling out to all eligible tenants,” said the Windows giant.

“We expect the rollout to be complete in the next several weeks.” Companion Planner apps for iOS, Android and Windows are currently being worked on and should release later this year.

GraphicConverter for Mac gains facial recognition, Collage, Picture Package and more

GraphicConverter by small Germany-based developer Lemkesoft has been dubbed the Swiss Army knife of Mac graphics programs, and for a very good reason: this app converts over 200 different graphic file formats into any of almost 80 graphic formats.

In its latest update, GraphicConverter for Mac was bumped to version 10 and enriched with a trio of major new features—facial recognition for your photos, Collage and Picture Package—along with refinements like support for converting Apple’s Live Photos format into an animated GIF.

My favorite Photoshop alternative, Pixelmator, was updated this morning on the Mac App Store with some notable new features, bug fixes and enhancements. Pixelmator 3.5 for Mac, a free update for those who own the app, includes the new Smart Selection and Magnetic Selection tools, a new Retouch extension for Photos which provides a full set of powerful retouching tools, and more.

1Password for Mac gains new browser support, anchored Large Type window and more

Developer AgileBits today released a new version of its popular password manager in the Mac App Store, 1Password for Mac.

Available to existing users at no additional charge, “The Passion Project” update bumps 1Password to version 6.3, bringing out support for an additional three browsers along with an enhanced Large Type feature, which now lives in a draggable window of its own, and a few minor VoiceOver enhancements.

Airmail 3 for OS X is here, brings best features from its iOS edition to the Mac

Developer Bloop on Monday issued a major update to its excellent OS X email client on the Mac App Store, Airmail. Available as a free upgrade for existing users, Airmail 3 brings some of the best features from its iPhone and iPad edition to the Mac.

In addition to improved handling of your VIP contacts and the ability to quickly reply to emails from a notification, Airmail 3 includes a rich set of options for customizing your menus, gestures, keyboard shortcuts and folders.

The app now integrates with your calendar, has a lot faster message rendering engine, will sync more settings via iCloud between OS X and iOS editions (rules, VIP contacts and Smart Folders) and more.

New Mac extension simplifies opening and switching Terminal to the current folder

A new OS X extension from Hasbrang Productions, the prominent jailbreak community development team, makes it easy to open and switch a new Terminal window to the current working directory, right from the Finder's contextual menu.

Available at no charge on the Mac App Store, the aptly named TermHere installs itself as a Finder file extension, readily accessible from the right-click menu. It works as advertised and is pretty convenient, more so if you use Terminal frequently.

Microsoft to sunset Sunrise Calendar on August 31, here are a few viable alternatives

If you rely on the excellent cross-platform Sunrise Calendar to keep up with your schedule, Microsoft has some bad news for you: your favorite calendar app is breaking up with you as the Windows maker announced plans to shut down Sunrise on August 31. For those wondering, Microsoft bought this popular calendar app in February of 2015.

Fortunately, Sunrise alternatives are plentiful.
