JailbreakMe 3.0 Will Have Much Faster Install Time

Comex, the creator of the userland jailbreak known as JailbreakMe, has developed a method for a much faster install time in his upcoming jailbreak. He has managed to get rid of Cydia's "Reorganizing Filesystem" message by abandoning the current 'stashing' filesystem approach.

The advancements made in Comex's jailbreak are expected to drastically reduce the time it takes to actually jailbreak an iDevice.

2 New Notification Center Widgets: BatteryCenter and MusicCenter

Jailbreak developers have been on a roll over the past two weeks, releasing several custom widgets for the new Notification Center in iOS 5. From the looks of things, it doesn't appear that the community plans on slowing down anytime soon.

Programmer Aaron Wright has recently released not one, but two jailbreak tweaks for Apple's iOS 5 beta software. Jailbroken folks on iOS 5 are more than welcome to try out the 2 new widgets, which are available for free from the developer's repo...

JailbreakMe 3.0 Teaser Image Proved Fake, Exact ETA on iPad 2 Jailbreak Unknown

We apologize if you got excited about the return of JailbreakMe today. A rumor got started this morning that claimed Comex was releasing his iPad 2 jailbreak through JailbreakMe.com this afternoon.

As it turns out, the teaser image (reportedly from Comex's Twitter account) that started this rumor has been proved fake, and we're back to the drawing board in terms of an iPad 2 jailbreak ETA.

JailbreakMe 3.0 Returns Today with iPad 2 Jailbreak? [Updated: Fake]

After Comex teased that the iPad 2 jailbreak is "almost ready," a rumor has started circulating that the famed jailbreak site, JailbreakMe.com, will return today with the long-awaited jailbreak for the iPad 2.

According to Nexus404, the above image briefly appeared on Comex's Twitter account last night, but the image link was almost immediately pulled. Comex has been working on an iPad 2 jailbreak for quite some time, and this image could be a teaser he created and published prematurely...

RSSWidget Shows Your RSS Feeds in Notification Center

The jailbreak scene has certainly taken an early liking to iOS 5's new Notification Center. The pulldown menu seems to be the perfect spot to put well-designed widgets that give you useful information at a glance.

Though it's unclear whether Apple will actually allow 3rd party developers to design widgets for the Notification Center, jailbreak developers have already proven its potential. The latest example of that is the new RSSWidget...

3 Beautiful Notification Center Concepts

The iOS 5 Notification Center has been getting a lot of attention lately in the jailbreak community. Third party widgets have already been made available that mirror functionality in tweaks like SBSettings. Themes are starting to get introduced for different widgets, and several concepts have surfaced that re-think the look of the Notification Center itself.

We've gathered three of the best Notification Center concepts, and they look beautiful. Let's hope that jailbreak devs will start distributing themes like these for Notification Center in iOS 5...

How to install .deb files

While Cydia is a decent hub for all of the available jailbreak apps and utilities, there's no arguing that dealing with the clunky package installer can be a bit cumbersome at times.

For folks that weren't aware, you can manually install jailbreak apps and tweaks without ever opening Cydia. All you need is the .deb file of the package you want to install, and an FTP client like iPhone Explorer or Cyberduck.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to manually install a .deb file on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

AT&T Silent About Unlocking iPhone

For the first time in history, Apple is now offering factory unlocked iPhones in the U.S. If you walk into your local Apple store, or browse online, you can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4 for operation on any compatible carrier. These unlocked devices start at $649.

AT&T does not currently offer unlocked iPhones in the United States. AT&T has yet to state if it will offer unlocked iPhones in its stores, or if the GSM carrier will unlock previously purchased iPhones.

Jailbreak Widget Brings iPhone’s Multitasking Tray to iOS 5 Notification Center

WidgetTask is a new jailbreak widget for the iOS 5 beta that adds a multitasking tray to Notification Center. This widget is from the same people behind UISettings - another third party widget that's available for iOS 5 beta jailbreakers.

Like SpringPrefs, WidgetTask adds itself to the iOS Notification Center under your already-installed widgets. Instead of having to double tap the home button to access your multitasking tray, WidgetTask will allow you to switch apps with ease from the Notification Center pulldown.

AppSlide Gives Your iPhone a Back Button, Sort of [Video]

The iPhone's all-touchscreen design caused Apple to make some steep compromises. The device lacks physical buttons that can be found on the simplest of phones. Though the list is long, it seems like the omission of a physical camera and standard back button sit at the top.

Lucky for us, we have the bright minds of the jailbreak community to make up for iOS' shortcomings. Apps like Activator and FastSnap easily solve the first dilemma, and the new Cydia tweak, AppSlide, solves the second. Back button anyone?

iPad 2 Jailbreak is “Almost Ready?”

Last week we broke the news about a teaser Comex had released on the JailbreakMe website, which consisted in a cryptic image suggesting that he might have found a new exploit. At the time, we speculated that it could be related to an iPad 2 jailbreak.

It looks like whatever Comex is working on - and we do believe it's an iPad 2 jailbreak - is "almost ready"...
