Apple’s cheapest iOS device might also be the most secure

All things considered, it's been a pretty good weekend for the jailbreak community. Not only have hackers managed to find multiple exploits for the new iPad (within 24 hours no less), but we've even seen proof of an untethered jailbreak.

It gets better. Word is that the work that is being done on Apple's new tablet will also apply to older devices on iOS 5.1, except perhaps the new Apple TV. Apparently, the least expensive iOS device also happens to be the most secure...

Three different iPad (3rd generation) jailbreaks surface on launch day

As if one jailbreak wasn't enough, now there has been confirmation that not one, not two, but three different 3rd generation iPad jailbreaks have been confirmed by hackers MuscleNerd, i0nic, and chpwn respectively.

It's only a matter of time before one or more of these jailbreaks make their way to a toolset that the average person can utilize.

Chpwn is the latest hacker to join the new 3rd generation iPad jailbreak party, as he posted photos on Twitter confirming his success...

New iPad untethered jailbreak showcased on video

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is among the fastest turnaround time we've ever seen for a jailbreak for a brand new Apple device.

As we reported earlier, an untethered jailbreak has already been accomplished for the newly released iPad, and now we have the video proof.

Check inside as iDevice hacker i0n1c showcases his untethered jailbreak on video...

New iPad jailbreak gets the untethered treatment

Earlier today, Apple's new Retina display-equipped iPad went on sale around the world. Perhaps even more exciting was the fact that the Dev Team was able to jailbreak the new tablet within a matter of hours.

Now it looks like there has been another development. Well-known iDevice hacker i0n1c has just announced that he has jailbroken his third-generation iPad. Oh yeah, and it's untethered...

TinyUmbrella updated with support for new iPad and Apple TV

It's not even Noon yet here on the west coast and today has already proven to be fairly eventful. Not only did Apple's new iPad go on sale around the world this morning, but the tablet was jailbroken within hours.

And now we've learned that NotCom has just updated TinyUmbrella to version 5.10.08. The new software, which saves your devices' SHSH Blobs, now includes support for the new Apple TV and yes, the new iPad...

The new iPad has already been jailbroken

Well, that didn't take long. The new iPad hasn't even been on sale for a full 12 hours yet, and it's already been jailbroken. We mentioned yesterday that Apple's latest tablet might be susceptible to previous jailbreak methods. And it looks like we were right.

MuscleNerd, a trusted member of the Dev Team, just tweeted out pics of his late-generation iPad hacked, and running Cydia 1.1.5. It's hard to see in the screenshot (above), but the software labels his device as an iPad 3,3, running iOS 5.1...

Wondering who won the big game? Let Siri tell you with SiriSports

Sure, Apple may have released Siri without all of the functionality that we'd like. But luckily, for those of us who are jailbroken, Cydia has a plethora of tweaks and add-ons available that make the digital assistant much more capable.

Such is the case with SiriSports. The new tweak, developed by Evan Coleman, adds the ability to look up sport scores and game times for your favorite professional team in the MLB, NBA, and NHL using Siri-flavored voice commands...

I0n1c has jailbroken iOS 5.1 on the iPad 2

Ever since Apple released iOS 5.1 last week, a lot of folks have been wondering when the new software would be jailbroken. Older devices can use RedSn0w to perform a tethered jailbreak of sorts, but it's not really a viable solution.

Then a few days ago we told you that pod2g, the hacker largely responsible for the Corona and Absinthe jailbreaks, was working on finding vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. But it looks like i0n1c has beaten him to the punch...

GeoHot arrested for Marijuana possession while driving to SXSW

While on his way to SXSW, famous iPhone hacker Geohot was arrested for Marijuana possession in Sierra Blanca, a small town with a history of arresting famous people for pot possession, including country singer Willie Nelson, and rapper Snoop Dogg.

While at the checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, the Department of Homeland Security had drug dogs that barked at GeoHot's car, meaning there was something fishy in the car. GeoHot apparently had a quarter of chronic stashed in the glove box, as well as eatables containing less than 1/8 oz of marijuana...

How to use Ultrasn0w Fixer to unlock your A4 device on iOS 5.1

When Apple released iOS 5.1 last week, the update didn't just break the previous jailbreaks. It also broke the software unlock for the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 known as Ultrasn0w.

While this may not be a very big deal to most people, it's rather inconvenient for folks who need to use their iPhone on multiple networks. Luckily, a temporary fix has surfaced in Cydia known as Ultrasn0w Fixer. And even luckier, we're going to show you how to install it...

Sn0wBreeze updated with bug fixes and Apple TV support

A few days ago, iH8sn0w released v2.9.2 of his popular jailbreak tool, Sn0wBreeze. The update added the ability for users to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 (yes, it's still tethered).

Then last night, the hacker seeded another version of the software, bringing it to v2.9.3. This update includes a minor bug fix, but also features new jailbreak support for Apple TV's on iOS 4.4.3 and 4.4.4...
