Let’s Talk Jailbreak 34: It’s getting weird

Cody kicks off this week's episode as we discuss lots of new jailbreak tweaks, Apple's earnings call, and the new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display. As you might expect, we talk about our upcoming purchase decisions, carrier choices, and the accessories we're thinking about picking up come iPad launch day.

Keep tabs on your device’s vitals with Free Space Cam

Free Space Cam is a $0.99 jailbreak tweak that allows users to keep tabs on the iPhone's vital statistics while using the stock Camera app. It lets you know how much battery life and free storage space you have for snapping photos. For videos, it will alert you to the amount of available time remaining for your video shoot as well.

Free Space Cam isn't for everyone, but for those of you who are jailbroken and are tight on space, it may be worth looking into. Have a look inside, as we take Free Space Cam through a brief video walkthrough.

Create passcode free intervals with PasswordTime

PasswordTime is a jailbreak tweak that let's you disable the passcode on your device during specific user defined time intervals. In theory, this could allow you to disable the passcode at 6 PM, the time when you arrive home from work. It could then be set to reenable the passcode before you leave the next day.

It's not a fail safe method of security, but if you're looking for something to add a little bit of convenience to your device, while still maintaining a passcode, then PasswordTime is worth your attention.

‘Show My Touch’ lets you visualize your touch screen taps

Show My Touch is a recently released tweak that brings a touch screen overlay indicator to jailbroken iPhones. The tweak, which is available for free on Cydia's BigBoss repo, makes it easy to identify your touches on screen by means of a colorful indicator.

Sure, this isn't the first time this has been done, but Show My Touch puts its own unique spin on things. Have a look at our video walkthrough inside to see what I mean.

How to add iOS 7 slide to unlock functionality to older firmwares

One of the biggest differences between the Lock screen in iOS 7 and the Lock screen found on previous firmware, is the way one goes about unlocking the device. Gone are the days where you had to position your finger in just the right location in order to do so.

With iOS 7, users can slide their fingers anywhere on the Lock screen to unlock, as long as the motion is from left to right. Unlock7 is a recently released jailbreak tweak that seeks to mimic this functionality for devices not running iOS 7. How does it work? Have a look at our hands-on session inside.

Enhance Safari’s tab button with this jailbreak tweak

Sometimes it's hard to get a firm grasp on the naming conventions used for releases on the Cydia store, and this jailbreak tweak — entitled Clota – is the latest such one. I'm definitely not sure what's behind the name, but the tweak works well enough.

Clota allows users to add two new tap based gestures to the new tab button found in the Safari browser. A double tap on the new tab button will close all open tabs sans the current tab. A triple tap, on the other hand, will close all tabs. Check inside for our video walkthrough showcasing how it works.

Let’s Talk Jailbreak 33: Let’s talk iPad

We delayed this episode of Let's Talk Jailbreak by a couple of days so that we could talk to you about our thoughts on Apple's iPad event. Join us for in-depth discussions about the new iPad Air, the iPad mini with Retina Display, iOS 7.0.3 and its potential jailbreakability, Apple's new free software initiative, and more.

Yes, it’s safe for jailbreak hopefuls to update to iOS 7.0.3

Following its big iPad event yesterday, Apple seeded iOS 7.0.3 to the public. While there are no major new features in the update, it does include several fixes for issues like iMessage, inaccurate sensor data, and more.

Initially, we warned folks who are hoping to jailbreak down the road to stay away from the new firmware until we were sure it was safe to update. Well late last night, MuscleNerd gave jailbreakers a digital thumbs up...

Let’s Talk Jailbreak 32: I’m really sorry about this…

Let's Talk Jailbreak episode 32 sees the guys talking about new jailbreak tweaks like SideSettings, PushPrivacy, SevenCenter, Dandelion, and Controls for Spotify. In non-jailbreak news, we discuss the upcoming Apple iPad event, the Mac Pro, Retina MacBooks, and more. We also discuss Apple's recent hiring of Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, along with a sizable rant about iPhone 5c sales.

How to gain enhanced Spotify control with a jailbroken iPhone

How does adding Spotify support to Activator sound? If that sounds like the proverbial music to your ears, then you need to take a look at Controls for Spotify. This is a new tweak that brings enhanced control to Spotify by means of simple Activator gestures.

It's a bit limited in its scope right now, but Controls for Spotify is a tweak that shows potential. Have a look inside for more details as to how it all works.

New tweak promises per-app screen brightness control

Dandelion is a new jailbreak tweak available on the BigBoss repo, which promises to bring automatically adjusting brightness to your device on a per-app basis. This means that in theory, you should be able to configure your brightness to a specific level while in app, and have the brightness always adjust to that set level when the app is launched.

Unfortunately, in my experience with the tweak, the results weren't quite that simple.

How to bring the iOS 7 Notification Center look to lesser firmware

Like every other facet of iOS, Notification Center received a significant visual overhaul in iOS 7 when compared to iOS 6 and below. Gone are the opaque linen textures in favor of a simple and clean semi-transparent overlay.

If you're running a jailbroken iOS 6 installation, then it's possible to gain some of Notification Center's new visual cues. SevenCenter is a new jailbreak tweak that brings the iOS 7 Notification Center experience to iOS 6, and iOS 5 devices. Have a look inside to see what I mean.
