Sticky: quickly add a handy sticky note to the Lock screen

Sticky is an upcoming jailbreak tweak that allows you to add a handy sticky note to the Lock screen. It's a tweak that's useful for quickly taking notes that you will need to reference at a later time.

One of the cool things about Sticky is that your notes stay visible on the Lock screen. This makes it so that when you wake your device from sleep, your note is waiting on you to remind you of any tasks.

We've taken Sticky for a spin on video. Have a look past the break for the full review.

How to add wallpaper to Control Center

CCBackground is a brand new jailbreak tweak that lets users customize the background of Control Center in iOS 7. The background can be customized with a photo from the Photos app library. Once you select a photo, a respring is required.

If the right background is chosen, CCBackground is a great way to customize the look of Control Center. Have a glance inside as we review CCBackground on video.

‘BetterPowerDown’ adds iOS 7.1 power-down slider to iOS 7.0

BetterPowerDown is a brand-new jailbreak tweak that allows you to add additional power-off options to iOS 7.0.x. The tweak, which is available for download on Cydia's BigBoss repo for $0.99, allows you to add the iOS 7.1 and iOS 6.x power-down sliders to your device.

JailbreakCon 2014: behind the scene

As I am trying to write a catchy intro for this post, I can’t help but feel the pressure. I’m feeling the pressure mainly because I wrote a similar piece a couple of years ago when I first attended JailbreakCon. To date, this post is still one of my favorites I have published on iDB. Having set the bar pretty high, this sequel could prove to be like most sequels: uninspired and thrown out there to cash in on a previous success. This is a risk I am willing to take today.

Maybe more importantly, I am feeling the pressure because I don’t want to disappoint readers by writing the same story I wrote a couple years ago. I guess I’m feeling like a musician that is incapable of finding a different sound for his next album, you know, kinda like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sometimes it’s good to keep the same sound. Sometimes it gets repetitive and boring. Hopefully, this time will still feel as refreshingly honest as it did the first time, while still entertaining readers, which really is my ultimate goal.

Yes, my goal is not so much to tell you about all the great workshops and talks I attended at JailbreakCon this year. My goal is to share the other side of the story. The side that no one not attending the event would be able to experience if it wasn’t for the words I’m typing on the keyboard right now. Let’s call it the behind the scene story of JailbreakCon.

So this is me, sharing my story of JailbreakCon 2014. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed living it…

Watchout for Unflod, a malware targeting jailbroken devices

We often praise iOS as a very secure platform, and this is mostly true, as many studies have confirmed over the years. But sometimes, it's not so much the platform that is responsible for the lack of security, it is the user himself.

The perfect illustration of this is when you jailbreak your device. By gaining root access to your iPhone or iPad, you start walking outside of Apple's walled garden and actually put yourself at risk of having untrusted files installed on your device without your knowledge.

As a jailbreaker myself, I am very well aware of the risks, but I do not mind them because the benefits usually far outweigh the drawbacks, and I assume most jailbreak users feel the same.

This being said, a new malware called Unflod has been targeting jailbroken devices for a few weeks. While there is still a lot we don't know about Unflod, the little information we have about it is enough to raise concerns...

ShareLock lets you share photos directly from the Lock screen

There are a few tweaks that are dear to my heart, mainly because I came up with the concept behind them. SkipLock is one of these tweaks, and ShareLock is another one that was just released on Ryan Petrich's beta repo.

The idea of ShareLock is pretty simple. It lifts the restriction put in place by Apple that prevents you from sharing photos you have taken using the camera grabber on the Lock screen. With ShareLock, you can simply launch the Camera app from the Lock screen grabber, snap a picture, and share it right away...

Auxo 2 gains iPad support

As promised, a3tweaks has released Auxo 2 version 1.1, and it comes with full iPad support. I've been playing with Auxo 2 1.1 for a while, and I can confirm that the iPad support is well-done.

To be honest, Auxo 2 feels more suited for the iPad than the iPhone. I noted in our Auxo 2 review that the tweak's Multi-Center view, a mode that combines both Control Center and the App Switcher, felt a bit cramped on the small 4" screen of the iPhone 5s. It's the complete opposite on the large screen of the iPad.

From a pure functionality standpoint, everything is pretty much the same as the previous version of Auxo 2. The big deal here is addition of iPad support, and it's well-warranted.

JailbreakCon 2014 mini talks now live on YouTube

This year's edition of JailbreakCon saw the introduction of mini talks, short presentations by various actors of the jailbreak community on different topics. Talks were between 5 and 20 minutes and were the occasion for speakers to share some of their knowledge with the audience, without necessarily taking up a whole lot of time.

I was actually one of the mini talk speakers. I actually believe that I went way over the 15 minutes I was allotted. Check inside for all videos of all the mini talks...

QuickWeather: Easily access current weather info from anywhere

QuickWeather is a recently released tweak that allows users to access current weather information from anywhere on the iPhone. By means of a handy Activator gesture, users can invoke QuickWeather from the Home screen, or while within an app.

QuickWeather a simple tweak with no settings to configure outside of its Activator gesture. Have a look at our video review after the break.

Auki: a new quick reply tweak designed by Surenix

As I sit in the airport terminal at 9:30 PM, I get to reflect on the whirlwind that has been the last 30 hours. I landed in San Francisco last night around 6:00 PM and hit the ground running. The blistering break-neck speed of the last day has made it a little difficult for me to register what just happened, but the down time in the Airport—the first real down time I've had in a couple of days—allows me to slowly digest what just occurred.

It's been surreal. Meeting (and interviewing) some of my favorite jailbreak developers—creators of some of the tools and tweaks that I use on a daily basis on my iPhone. Mingling with fans, listening to intriguing talks, and finally meeting Jim Gresham and Sebastien Page, have all been highlights of my visit.

But when it comes to actual jailbreak releases, there has been one run-away highlight of this trip. Surenix—doing his best Steve Jobs impression—announced Auki —a brand new quick reply and quick compose tweak for the iPhone that he designed.

Developed by well-known tweak developer Bensge, Auki prides itself on feeling native and devoid of unnecessary features and bloat. Does it succeed in its lofty ambitions of making you forget about tweaks like Couria, Messages+, and biteSMS? Check inside for the full video first-look.

JailbreakCon will be live streamed today

This is day two of JailbreakCon 2014. Yesterday was focused on small workshops and short talks by a variety of speakers, including yours truly. Today, the whole day will be focused on talks by some of the biggest names in the jailbreak community, such as Ryan Petrich, pod2g and Saurik.

If you couldn't make it to San Francisco, you'll be happy to learn that today's event will be livestreamed so you won't miss one bit of it all...

‘Articon’ turns app icons into album art when playing music

Articon is a jailbreak tweak that can spice up your Home screen by adding album artwork on top of the now-playing music app. The album artwork used by Articon is the same artwork that appears in the app that you use to play music.

You might think that Articon's effects would be limited to the stock Music app, but that isn't the case. I was able to successfully have album artwork on my Spotify app, and even Amazon Instant Video—yep, it works with video playing apps as well.

If you're looking for a way to change up the look of your music or video app icons, then Articon is a tweak that might interest you. Have a glance at our video walkthrough inside for more information.
