LockGlyph updates result in a significantly better Lock screen tweak

LockGlyph, a tweak that we reviewed last month, was met with a ho-hum response due to some of its shortcomings. It's a tweak that brings the Apple Pay authentication animation and sound to the Lock screen. It was slow, a little clunky, and lacked many of the customization options necessary to make it great. However, some recent updates have quickly changed the perception of this jailbreak tweak.

How to change the iPhone 6 Reachability background color

ColorReachability is a recently released jailbreak tweak that allows iPhone 6 users to switch up the color of their Reachablity background. Reachability, as you've no doubt heard, allows users of large screen devices like the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to shift down the iOS interface so that it can be efficiently used with one hand. If you find Reachability's look to be too boring and pedestrian, ColorReachability can go a long way towards changing that.

Apple Watch UI tweak ‘Aeternum’ receives a huge update

Aeternum, arguably the best Apple Watch UI jailbreak tweak available on Cydia, received a massive update today. The update brings lots of fixes and several notable new features to the table. If you purchased Aeternum the past, but felt it wasn't ready for prime time, you may want to check it out again now that it's received its notable 1.0.2.3 update.

Switchability: an upcoming tweak that combines Reachability, the App Switcher, and Safari’s 3D tab view

A new upcoming jailbreak tweak promises to combine multiple iOS features into a cool new app switching interface called Switchability. The tweak, which is previewed inside on video, combines the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus' Reachability mode along with the App Switcher and Safari's 3D tab view. The result of such a combination may seem like it would be a mess, but after seeing it demonstrated in the preview video, I think it might just work.

Predix: predict when your iPhone’s battery will fully charge or die

Predix is a new jailbreak tweak that presents the time until your device's battery is scheduled to die or fully charge. It does so by means of a heads up display in the center of the iPhone's screen.

If you're looking for an easy way to keep tabs on battery life, including handy predictions on charging and discharging remaining time, then you'll want to look into this thoughtful jailbreak tweak.

38 new and updated jailbreak tweaks worth a look at

These last seven days marked another solid week of worthy jailbreak tweaks releases and updates, and as you know, Cydia isn't necessarily a great place to discover what's new or what's been updated... which is why we've come up with this weekly wrapup of new and updated jailbreak tweaks.

Each tweak comes with a short description of what it actually does, as well as the price and a link to our post on iDB if we covered the tweak in question. Of course this is not a one hundred percent comprehensive list, so some tweaks might be missing, which is where you come in: if you see a tweak that was updated or released that is not on this list, simply add it up in the comments section.

AdvancedSettings8: access the ridiculously in-depth settings hidden on your iOS 8 device

AdvancedSettings8 is a jailbreak tweak that unlocks Apple's hidden settings for iOS 8. These settings are hidden for a good reason, as they reveal things that the average user would have no clue how to use. I consider myself to be a fairly advanced user, and it was enough to confuse me a bit, so there's that.

But there is some value to be had from AdvancedSettings8. After you peruse the multitude of sections and the vast array of adjustable values, you'll surely stumble upon at least one or two settings from which you can personally derive value.

How to jailbreak iOS 8.1.1 or iOS 8.1.2 on Mac OS X using a virtual machine

As has been the norm as of late, OS X releases of the latest jailbreak tools have lagged behind their Windows counterparts. The TaiG jailbreak, which released to much surprise early this morning is no exception.

But what if you're an OS X only user who doesn't have access to a Windows machine? Are you left out in the cold waiting until TaiG decides to release an OS X version of its tool? Not necessarily.

Inside, I'll show you how easy it is to run a Windows virtual machine on OS X absolutely free of charge. Doing so will allow you to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 even if you only have a Mac. Best of all, it's absolutely free to do so. Check out our video tutorial after the break for the full how-to.

Update: this post was originally created for iOS 8.1.1, but you can follow the same steps to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 using the latest version of TaiG.

Brevity 2: send a quick canned message directly from the stock Messages app

Brevity 2 is the sequel to a tweak of the same name—Brevity—which allowed iOS 7 users to send a quick canned message via the stock Messages app. The sequel to Brevity is pretty much a 1:1 translation of the original for newly jailbroken iOS 8 devices.

If you're looking to add a simple canned message that you can quickly access from the stock Messages app, then Brevity 2 should meet your needs.

TaiG jailbreak updated to version 1.1, upgradable via Cydia

The TaiG 8.0-8.1.1 Untether has been updated to version 1.1, and it comes bundled in the TaiG jailbreak that's downloadable for Windows, and it also comes as a Cydia package for those who have already jailbroken with TaiG.

The update doesn't appear to be a major update, but there are fixes included to fix sandboxing issues present in the previous version of the TaiG jailbreak tool. Users who are jailbroken, and those who have yet to jailbreak should use TaiG 1.1.

Prettier Banners adds contacts photos to Messages notifications

I miss BiteSMS for so many reasons, and one of them is that the tweak adds the photo of your contacts in Messages notifications, assuming you do have a photo for that contact to begin with of course.

Prettier Banners is a new tweak that will certainly fill that void, at least until BiteSMS gets an update. Developed by Mohamed Marbouh, Prettier Banners will replace the Messages app icon with the photo of your contact when receiving a text message notification.

TaiG jailbreak and website now available in English, team launches official Twitter account

TaiG today launched an English version of its jailbreak tool and official website, making it easier for users to follow through the steps to download and use the utility to jailbreak their iOS devices running iOS 8 to iOS 8.1.1. In an effort to make communication with non-Chinese speakers better, the team has also launched a Twitter account, available in English as well.

The English version of the site can be found at TaiG.com/en. The download link, jailbreak tool UI, tutorial, and changelog pages have all been translated in English. Although the translation of the website and the jailbreak tool aren't perfect, this move will definitely make it less intimidating for users who haven't used TaiG yet to take the plunge.
