New report says iWatch will feature third-party app support

9to5Mac's Mark Gurman is out with a new scoop this evening regarding Apple's incoming wearable. Citing sources familiar with the project, the well-connected blogger reports that the so-called iWatch will feature support for third-party applications.

In fact, Gurman says that the device will come equipped with an App Store, and apparently a handful of developers have already received a pre-release of the SDK (developer tools). This group includes major social networks, and service companies.

New report sets low expectations for iWatch battery life

The Information is out with a new scoop this afternoon, offering up some last-minute details on the so-called iWatch. Most of the report corroborates previous chatter, regarding what the device will look like and do, but it does bring a new topic to light: battery life.

According to the site's Jessica Lessin, people with knowledge of the project have set low expectations for the iWatch's battery life. These sources say that the uptime on the wearable will be "disappointing," although Lessin does say that Apple could be sandbagging.

Apple reportedly debuting wearable alongside two new iPhones in September

Apple has plans to launch a wearable, presumably the iWatch, at its September media event alongside two new versions of the iPhone, according to John Paczowski at ReCode. The iWatch was thought to be delayed until an October event, giving Apple more time to finalize its plans, however well plugged-in Paczowski claims the Cupertino-based company has moved up its timeline.

New report claims second-gen iPad Air may feature 2GB of RAM

A new report is out this afternoon from Asian site TechNews.tw, claiming that it has received intel from Apple's supply chain suggesting that the second generation iPad Air could feature 2GB of RAM—double that of the current model.

According to the site, which doesn't have much of a track record when it comes to Apple rumors, the increase in RAM will be limited to the new iPad Air. The second-generation Retina iPad mini is expected to once again feature 1 GB of RAM...

Apple could announce its “wrist wearable thing” next month, says Gruber [updated]

Apple may unveil its so-called iWatch sooner than expected, according to Daring Fireball's John Gruber. In a new blog post this afternoon, the well-connected Apple pundit casually mentions that the Cupertino company plans to announce its "wrist wearable thing" next month.

Gruber's claim contradicts previous reports from various outlets, which have all suggested that the iWatch would land in October. But given his near perfect track record in predicting Apple plans, it's certainly possible that we could see more than bigger iPhones in September...

Analyst predicts initial iWatch shipments may be limited due to sapphire issues

Noted KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a new note to investors today regarding the upcoming iWatch. Echoing his thoughts from earlier this month, Kuo says he believes that only around 3 million units or so of Apple's smartwatch will ship this year.

Citing supply chain sources, the analyst blames production issues for the device's limited availability. More specifically, Kuo believes that Apple is running into problems with the iWatch's sapphire cover lens, pushing mass production back until late-November...

Apple said to be working with Swatch and others to produce multiple iWatch devices

VentureBeat is out with a new report this afternoon, claiming it has learned that Apple has partnered with Swatch to produce an entire line of 'iWatch' devices. Apparently these devices are going to come in multiple styles, and at a variety of price points.

Citing sources familiar with the project, the outlet says that while the current consensus is that Apple is building one or two iWatches by itself, the firm may actually be preparing a variety of smartwatches with several partners from the watch industry...
