A federal jury in Tyler, Texas ruled on Tuesday that Apple must pay $532.9 million in damages to Smartflash LLC. Bloomberg reports that the jury found iTunes to infringe on its patents related to "managing access through payment systems."
The original complaint was filed in 2013, with Smartflash asking for $852 million. The company argued it was entitled to a percentage of sales of Apple’s devices, including the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers, that were used to access iTunes.

Apple said in a support document on Monday that it will no longer allow iTunes customers to use their AOL screen names to sign into the iTunes Store.
"Starting March 31, 2015, AOL will no longer allow customers to use their AOL Username (also known as an AOL Screen Name) to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store," Apple wrote on its support website.

Apple today rolled out a new version of iTunes specifically for Windows users. Windows-only iTunes updates are rare for Apple, but the changelog says that today's release fixes some significant bugs related to Outlook-device syncing, as well as an audio playback glitch.
Users can update to 12.1.1 by either visiting the Updates section from the Updates tab within iTunes, or they can visit Apple's website and download the software in its entirety. Windows users must be running Windows Vista 64-bit or later, and have 400MB free space.

Apple this evening posted the first notable update for iTunes 12 since the music management app was refreshed for OS X Yosemite back in October of last year. The release comes labeled as iTunes 12.1, and it includes a new media control widget for Notification Center.

Apple has updated its iTunes Store app on iOS and desktop in the US with a new "Free on iTunes" section found on the homepage to help users find content without having to spend money.
As the name implies, the "Free on iTunes" tab shows music and full length TV show episodes that can be downloaded free of charge.
