Apple supplier to build nanowire-based flexible toucscreens, likely for future iOS devices

Taiwanese trade publication DigiTimes is reporting that TPK Holding is gearing up to product nanowire-based flexible touchscreens. TPK is on Apple's supplier list so there's a high likelihood that future iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices could switch to these flexible screens based on nano silver ink. Originally developed by 3M, silver nanowire films are flexible and transparent to the eye, making them feasible for wearable devices particular.

Twitter’s iOS app gains Peek and Pop previews

Although you couldn't tell it by looking at official release notes for Twitter's version 6.54 update, which make a passing mention of “a few minor updates that you didn’t even know you needed”, the app has finally gained additional 3D Touch goodies in the form of Peek and Pop previews within the app. Before today, Twitter for the iPhone and iPad only supported Quick Actions on the Home screen. Bummed by iOS’s erratic text selection in Safari? Try this simple trick

Sometimes it feels like I'm wrestling with iOS's text-selection feature in Safari instead of it making my life easier. Increasingly, certain webpages either wouldn't let me copy body text at all or would leave me struggling trying to make a precise selection.

More often than not, zooming doesn't prove much of a help. This issue is particularly infuriating when trying to highlight a URL. But don't worry, this is where iDownloadBlog's how-to series comes to the rescue!

Here's a simple trick which helps override this behavior, letting you highlight and copy text on webpages that don't necessarily play nicely with iOS's text-selection feature.

Bookmark apps and iTunes content and install them later with Lookmark for iPhone

Lookmark for iPhone by developer Claes Jacobsson received a major update yesterday, prompting me to take another look at this interesting piece of software.

With Lookmark, you can bookmark apps and other iTunes content very easily from Safari, other apps and your desktop, and install/download them later when the time is right. Yesterday's update added a Share sheet extension which can save apps mentioned on any webpage.

Google’s iOS app gains Accelerated Mobile Pages, sports highlight videos in Now cards

Google's native Search application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad this morning received a newsworthy update in the App Store, gaining faster browsing with support for Accelerated Mobile Pages from major publishers and another feature which allows you to instantly watch sports highlight videos in Now cards.

Day One 2 gains Spotlight integration, On This Day and other new features

Bloom Built's journaling app, Day One 2, was refreshed in the App Store this morning with more than a dozen new features, including integration with iOS 9's Spotlight Search feature, an “On This Day” feature which lets you relive what happened on this day by using filters and notifications, JSON file import, search filters for showing entries matching your search keywords in the Timeline and more. The app is still available half price for $4.99 on the App Store.

Your Periscope broadcasts are now saved permanently by default

Twitter-owned Periscope has brought out two new features in its most recent update on the App Store, saving and searching broadcasts. As of Periscope 1.4.1 for iPhone, your broadcasts are now saved permanently by default. Additionally, the new search feature is now live, allowing you to find popular places on the world map to quickly locate interesting broadcasts around the world.

PayPal is ditching its apps for Windows, BlackBerry and Kindle devices

PayPal is dropping support for its mobile apps on Windows, BlackBerry and Kindle Fire devices, the online payments firm announced in a blog post. Existing users will be required to upgrade to the latest version of the mobile PayPal app for iOS and Android, which in February received its long-overdue makeover. Starting on June 3 through June 30, those on older versions of the PayPal mobile app must upgrade to the latest version, 6.0.

Pokémon GO field-testing kicks off today in the United States

Having previously launched in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, beta testing for Pokémon GO kicks off today in the United States as its developer, Niantic Labs, began sending out beta invites this morning to customers who signed up to field-test the work-in-progress game.

In a blog post, Niantic shared a few previously unknown tidbits about the forthcoming mobile game, which is being developed collaboration with The Pokémon Company and will take place in the real world.

Google Maps gains new voice controls in navigation, Street View tweaks and more

Google's native mapping application for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad was bumped to version 4.19 this morning, bringing out a few enhancements meant to improve your navigation and Street View experience.

For starters, a few new voice controls are now available in navigation to mute, unmute or turn on alerts only. You can also move around Street View by swiping, and more.

Adonit unveils the Pixel, its best iOS stylus yet which detects 2,048 levels of pressure

Accessory maker Adonit announced a new addition to its styli lineup today, dubbed the Pixel. Calling it “the best stylus we've ever made,” Adonit claims it wants the Pixel to be the natural evolution of writing and drawing. The device is available for just $79.99, or twenty bucks less than the Apple Pencil.

While it lacks some of the advanced features found in Apple's stylus, the Pixel doesn't require a special circuitry inside the display itself in order to function.
