T-Mobile offering iPhone 5s/5c with $0 down for Black Friday weekend only

Black Friday is just around the corner and TMoNews is reporting that T-Mobile USA will be offering Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c with $0 down on its usual installment plans, for the Black Friday weekend only, November 29. Following the weekend, limited time pricing "for these amazing devices" will be available beginning Cyber Monday, December 2, as per the carrier's internal memo.

I'm guessing these prices are for entry-level iPhones with sixteen gigabytes of storage. For those wondering, that’s a $149 saving on the iPhone 5s and a $49 saving on the iPhone 5c right off the bat as you’ll be paying about $20 per month for 24 months on T-Mobile's installment plans. I've included the full details right after the break...

In Japan, iPhone 5s/5c outsold other smartphones by 3:1 during October

The new iPhones are on fire in Japan! We already know Apple’s smartphone share in the 127 million people country is bigger than that in the United States as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c seemingly break sales records in one of the most competitive tech markets on the planet.

Counterpoint Research gave the iPhone a cool 34 percent share of Japan’s smartphone market during the month of October, with Kantar giving Apple a slight lead over Android in Japan.

But according to Kantar's latest revised data, the iPhone maker has grabbed more than three-quarters of new smartphone sales last month in the Land of the Rising Sun...

Popular cloud storage service Mega launches iOS app

In January of last year, the US Department of Justice sent a shockwave through the cloud storage industry by shutting down MegaUpload. The hosting site allowed users to upload and store large files, and at one point was the 13th most visited site on the Internet.

This year, exactly 12 months after MegaUpload shut down, founder Kim Dotcom reincarnated his cloud storage service as simply 'Mega.' The new service is more secure than its predecessor, includes 50 GB of free storage space, and now [finally] has an iOS app...

WSJ: Foxconn ramping up iPhone 5s production

Yesterday we reported that online iPhone 5s availability had improved, with shipping estimates lowered to 3-5 days. Now, this newfound inventory could be the result of greater production yields, lower demand, or both.

But according to The Wall Street Journal, it's likely the former. The news outlet is reporting this morning that Foxconn has boosted production capacity for the iPhone 5s, at the expense of the 5c, at the request of Apple...

Both 1Password and XCOM: Enemy Unknown are half price right now

In addition to the various Black Friday deals on iPhones, iPads and other products, we're also expecting to see a number of software sales as well. In fact, a couple have already popped up, which you can see here and here.

And today we've learned of two more apps that have gone on sale for the holiday weekend: 1Password and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Both have been discounted down to $9.99 from their usual $17.99 and $19.99 price tags...

Delivery Status touch update adds support for iCloud Keychain and more

We're big fans of Junecloud's package-tracking app Delivery Status touch. It's what most of us here at iDB use to track our new iPhones, iPads and other gear when we order online, and it even made our list of Best iPhone apps.

And today, Delivery Status touch received a significant update, bringing the app to version 5.0.1. The update includes a number of improvements, such as support for iCloud Keychain, French shipping outfit Chronopost and more...

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas coming to iOS in December with MFi controller support

Great news gamers! Rockstar announced this morning that it is working on a port for its popular Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas title, and it will be landing on iOS (and Android) in December. Additionally, it will support new MFi controllers.

Rockstar has already published a handful of GTA games in the App Store, but this one will be particularly sweet. First released for consoles in 2004, San Andreas won numerous 'Game of the Year' awards and sold over 27.5 million copies...

iPhone 5s availability reaches 90 percent, now shipping in 3-5 days

Apple's flagship iPhone 5s used to be in short supply at both the company's own and carrier-owned retail outlets in the United States as suppliers struggled to meet high demand for the device. The prime reason affecting the handset's availability is Apple manufacturing partners' inability to ramp up production of the sensitive and sophisticated Touch ID fingerprint sensor that no one put inside the Home button before (this is also why the new iPads lack Touch ID).

Indicating improved yields, it would now seem that most of Apple's U.S. Apple Stores now have the device in stock, with one estimate finding that 90 percent of iPhone 5s models are now available in both Apple and carrier stores...

Digital scrapbook app Ember coming to iPhone and iPad in December

Ember, a digital scrapbook app from the Clear to-do app's creator Realmac Software, arrived back in July as a rather pricey $49.99 Mac App Store download. Despite its punishing price tag, I wrote that Ember struck me as an Evernote replacement I’ve long been yearning for. The team has since added a few new features such as Smart Drawing, Colours and iCloud sync, while squashing dozens of bugs.

And now, they've confirmed that the iOS version will be available in December. This is great news as I can now introduce Ember into my daily workflow, hopefully being able to jot down notes, create journals and manage my notebooks on whatever device I happen to be using, be it a Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch...

Apple wins smartphone patent case against California inventor

Earlier this month we told you that California inventor Richard L. Ditzik was suing Apple, claiming its iPhone infringed on one of his patents. Well this week, the Cupertino company won the case against the 70-year-old electrical engineer.

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple was found not guilty of infringing on Ditzik's so-called 'smartphone patent.' A jury in Los Angeles made the call yesterday, completely rejecting the claim by NetAirus Technologies—Ditzik's shell company...

China Mobile to launch its 4G LTE network next month

Rumors have been circulating for the past few weeks that China Mobile is on the verge of launching its LTE network next month. And it looks like the reports were true, as the news has been confirmed this week by state-run news outlet Xinhua.

This is big news for a couple of reasons. For one, this will be the country's first major rollout of 4G. And two, it means Apple will finally be able to start offering its two latest iPhone models on China Mobile, as they support its TD-LTE standard...
