Popular PC game Transport Tycoon coming soon to iOS

Fans of Transport Tycoon will be happy to hear that the widely popular PC game is going to be making its way to iOS soon. The title, which was originally released in 1994, is still highly regarded as one of the better simulation games of all time.

Even better, the remake is being both designed and directed by Chris Sawyer, the creator of the original TT. And he says that the game is being "painstakingly revised" for the touchscreen, while still retaining all of its best gameplay elements...

IMDb app updated with in-app movie ticket purchasing, Amazon Mobile integration and more

Amazon's IMDb app has come a long way in the last 6 months. It received a major UI facelift back in December of last year, and just a few months ago it received another significant update which added global release dates and other new data.

And this morning, it gets even better. The new release, which brings the app to version 3.3, adds a slew of new features including in-app movie ticket purchasing (currently for US users only) Amazon Mobile integration for movie purchases, and more...

iPhone to become dashboard in 2014 iScooters

Apple for some time has expressed interest in designing products for high-end automobiles, creating Siri Eyes Free to act as a driver's personal assistant. However, with the growing use of scooters - particularly ones electric-powered - the Apple handset is set to become the dashboard, serving up GPS information, speed and more. The iScooters should appear in 2014, one version from the maker of the tiny Smart Car and another from that wonderland of gadgets, Japan...

The Finnish developer says that gamers will get to play with 30 never-before-seen Angry Birds Star Wars characters, as well as choose their side—the 'Pork side' or the Empire. And the game will launch alongside new interactive toys from Hasbro called Telepods...

DigiTimes: minor iPad mini refresh this year, ‘almost bezel-free’ Retina version in 2014

We've already heard from multiple sources that Apple is still 'adjusting'  new iPad mini, with alleged panel shortages pushing a Retina iPad mini 2 into 2014 and prompting Apple to ready a minor update this year until the Retina version with a faster chip is ready next year. A new report out this morning from Taiwan adds more color to these rumors.

For starters, the Retina iPad mini is said to be "almost bezel-free," which will allow for a bigger viewing area.

A slightly updated model should be expected in the fourth quarter of this year and is said to be "lighter, thinner and equipped with improved specifications," which probably includes a faster chip than the A5 package found inside the current iPad mini model...

Square Enix apologizes for Deus Ex anti-jailbreak bug, promises fix

Jailbreakers who went to download the newly-released Deus Ex: The Fall yesterday were met with an unpleasant surprise. They were unable to properly play the game, because the developers built in code that disabled firing on jailbroken devices.

Of course, it wasn't an issue for very long—a jailbreak tweak called xCon patches the code that identifies jailbroken devices. But today, Publisher Square Enix apologized for the whole thing and said that it would remove the code in a future update...

Apple’s lower Mac sales created by ignoring iPad demand

When is a tablet a PC? When it's running Windows 8. Conversely, when is a tablet not a PC? When it bears the Apple logo. In a second quarter littered with negative sales figures, it took some fancy footwork to lump Apple Mac shipments in with an industry decline that's lasted five quarters.

In its estimates of PCs shipped during the last quarter, Gartner earlier this week announced PC shipments on average fell 10.9 percent. Even Apple - which has consistently beaten PC numbers - fell 4.3 percent. However, in a curious note, the firm explained the figures included desktops, mobile PCs and mini-notebooks - but not iPads. What gives?...

Alleged Retina panel shortages could push back iPad mini 2 into early-2014

While supply chain sources appear to agree that a fifth-generation iPad is launching this Fall, pointing to Apple's procurement of components ahead of trial production, there is no definite consensus on a successor to the 7.9-inch iPad mini.

A new report out from Taiwan on Friday asserted that Retina panel shortages may have forced Apple's leadership to push back the device into early-2014.

Tim Cook & Co. have reportedly scrapped the original plan which called for launching the iPad mini 2 during the fourth quarter of 2013, in time for the holiday shopping season...

Apple looking to add new Taiwanese suppliers to build 2014 iDevices

According to the latest chatter, Apple of California is looking to introduce new Taiwanese suppliers to its supply chain in a bid to diversify manufacture of iOS devices beyond the current production partners Foxconn and Pegatron.

The development comes just as Foxconn reported better-than-expected June quarter earnings on increased sales of its TV set making business.

Meanwhile, a city in China's Henan Province is helping Foxconn increase its production capacity and inviting Apple to set up a domestic sales center...

Despite anti-iPad campaign, Microsoft forced to lower Surface price

In an effort to spur struggling slate sales, Microsoft launched a TV ad campaign aimed squarely at the iPad. The strategy, which has spawned four commercials since May, focuses on highlighting the flaws in Apple's popular tablet in comparison with the Surface.

But despite the agressive campaign, Microsoft still seems to be having trouble selling tablets. According to a new report, the Redmond company is planning to drop the price of all Surface RT models by $150 later this month—a move in response to lackluster sales...
