Pokémon GO gains 80+ new creatures and a bunch of new features in latest update

Pokémon GO developer Niantic Labs announced two days ago that an upcoming update would bring over eighty new Pokémon and other new features to the popular augmented reality game. Yesterday, the developer said that the new Pokémon GO 1.27.2 update containing those perks began rolling out.

It's a staggered release so you might need to wait a little bit longer if it's not live on your local App Store yet. Here's everything new in Pokémon GO 1.27.2 for iOS.

MessageFilter: blacklist and whitelist words for specific conversations

If you have all kinds of contacts on your iPhone or iPad, ranging from friends and family, to significant others, to business partners and bosses, then you have a responsibility to take extra care to ensure your messages never go to the wrong person.

Helping to prevent sending messages that are intended specifically for certain people to the wrong person is a new free jailbreak tweak called MessageFilter by Frozen Penguin. It works by allowing you to set up a special blacklist and whitelist system to manage where certain kinds of messages are allowed to be sent.

PassButtonStyle allows you customize your passcode buttons look

Most modern Apple mobile devices are Touch ID-enabled and rarely get any passcode button screen time at all; nevertheless, any time your Touch ID sensor decides not to work correctly, or when rebooting your device, you will be introduced to it from time to time.

For those who see the passcode input screen more than others, a new free jailbreak tweak called PassButtonStyle by developer CydiaGeek will let you customize the appearance of your passcode buttons.

Mitsuha adds a wave animation to the Now Playing screen in the iOS 9 Music app

Although many people are using the Yalu iOS 10 jailbreak these days, some remained on iOS 9.3.3 with the Pangu jailbreak. If you’re one of these people, then you’ll be happy to know that developers are still making tweaks specifically for your firmware.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Mitsuha by c0ldra1n is just one example, and this tweak will improve the look and feel of your Music app by providing a sleek ‘Jell-O’ wave effect in the Now Playing interface any time music is playing.

You’ll soon be able to apply for a job in Facebook’s mobile app and on the web

Facebook on Thursday announced it's rolling out a new Jobs section on the mobile app and via the web interface at facebook.com/jobs. This new feature will allow users to find and apply for hourly-paid job openings advertised on the service by small businesses in the United States and Canada.

Designed for lower-skilled workers and people who aren’t actively looking for a job, the new section is currently in limited testing in the US. Job posts will be accessible through News Feed via a dedicated Jobs tab and promoted on the business' Facebook Page.

Calendar for Lockscreen 2 ensures you never forget an upcoming Calendar event again on iOS 10

People who have busy lives often need to have a way to organize their upcoming plans so they don’t forget them, and that’s where your iPhone’s Calendar app comes in handy.

Unfortunately, the Calendar app only lets you see upcoming events when they’re coming up very soon, and for some things, "soon" isn't enough time to get prepared, and that's why a jailbreak tweak called Calendar for Lockscreen 2 by VladMax Soft was developed, attempting to make everyday life easier.

Cydia gets performance improvements in latest updates

Saurik launched a duo of essential upgrades for Cydia Installer on Wednesday that are expected to “drastically improve” the performance of Cydia for users of various languages; Chinese in particular.

Version 1.1.30, which superseded version 1.1.29 just hours later with an additional bug fix, is available now. It is recommended all jailbreakers grab the update the next time they find themselves launching Cydia, if they haven't already.

Add a splash of color to your Status Bar icons with Aerial

Fresh off the press is a new jailbreak tweak dubbed Aerial, which offers you the ability to add a splash of color to just about any of your Status Bar’s indicator icons.

The tweak has been developed by a team called PolyTweaks, and at the heart of its design is well-known graphical designer Surenix, but the developer behind its creation has chosen to remain anonymous.

Remember AppGratis? It shut down today.

After seven years and more than fifty million installs globally, the app discovery service AppGratis announced it's shutting down today. Founded in 2010 by French engineer Simon Dawlat, AppGratis curators found and recommended apps that were featured to download for free or at a significantly reduced price.

As some of you will recall, Apple in a controversial move nuked the app from orbit back in April 2013 over a violation of App Store rules regarding third-party app promotion and marketing. After it was dumped from App Store, AppGratis launched an Android version of the app.

MusicMark saves your place in the Music app when you respring or force-quit the app

When you’re in the middle of listening to media via Apple’s Music app and you end up having to force-quit the app or respring your device for any reason, you’ll notice that the app never remembers your place in the song when you get the Music app up and running again.

A new free jailbreak tweak called MusicMark by iOS developer Tony Kraft fixes this by forcing the Music app to remember your place in a song whenever you respring or force-quit the Music app, effectively allowing you to resume where you left off.

The best weather apps for iPad

Legend has it that weather apps are about as old as the App Store itself. Their popularity has always sprung from the simple fact that some people like their weather forecast to be scientific and precise to a T. Some like it punchy and condensed, while again others might just want it to be a visual treat. On iPad, it's much more than a matter of taste though, because whatever Apple's rationale, an in-house application for weather is still notably absent.

As a result of this choice, a number of third-party apps have become household names as weather surrogates on Apple's tablet. Even in 2018, some of the old-timers remain too cogent to overlook, but newer arrivals are starting to give the traditional go-to apps a run for their money. Thusly on merits of capabilities and originality, here are some of the best weather apps for iPad you can choose from today.

Trading and real-time player battles coming soon to Pokémon GO

Niantic CEO John Hanke said that the team is working on bringing additional features and more depth to the augmented reality game, including the long-awaited Pokémon trading and player vs. player battles in real time.
