SBRotator Adds Landscape Mode to Your iPhone Home Screen

Alex Heath ∙ December 5, 2010

Most apps in iOS support both portrait and landscape mode. The iPad even supports portrait and landscape on the home screen. Apple has limited the iPhone's home screen to portrait mode only, but there is now a jailbreak tweak for adding landscape rotation to your iPhone's home screen.

SBRotator changes your home screen to match your iPhone's orientation, just like most apps will already do in iOS. If you have been dying to have this capability since you saw the iPad's rotated home screen, you should be very happy with SBRotator...

iOS 4.2 Available Today with Free Find My iPhone in Tow

Jeff Benjamin ∙ Updated May 26, 2017

Finally, it's here...almost. According to a press release ushered in from Apple, the long awaited iOS 4.2 will be released today. Reports point to 10am PST as the time when the download will go live, so set your stopwatches.

The big winners here are iPad owners, who finally receive multitasking capabilities on their tablets. But iPhone owners have a lot to be happy about as well, with features like AirPlay, and AirPrint making their debut...

What iPhone iOS 4.2 Feature Are You Looking Forward to the Most?

Guest Author ∙ Updated January 24, 2016

The folks over at TiPB have posted a nice and handy walk-through guide for iOS 4.2 features for iPhone, detailing all the new features expected in the latest iOS rollout, due this month (maybe as early as this week?)

While it's not a major overhaul, there are several features iOS 4.2 is bringing that enhance the user experience - especially for iPad users. So which 4.2 features are you looking forward to getting the most on your iPhone?

NotesFont brings iOS 4.2-esque Font Features to the iPhone Notes App

Jeff Benjamin ∙ November 3, 2010

Although I'm not a developer, I have been able to play around extensively with iOS 4.2 on my iPad. Let me just reiterate the sentiments that it is indeed worth the hype. With new features like AirPlay, it's understandable that that ability to switch your fonts in the Notes app is playing second fiddle to all of the other enhancements.

Although iOS 4.2 is right around the corner, Apple has been one-upped with the release of the jailbreak tweak, NotesFont. Not only does this tweak bring the ability to change fonts in the native Notes app, it offers a lot more fonts than what Apple is planning to offer...

Need More Proof that iOS 4.2 is Right Around The Corner?

Jeff Benjamin ∙ Updated January 24, 2016

I can't say I'm a big fan of Sudoku, but Big Bad Sudoku Book has piqued my interest due to it being one of the first iPhone Apps in the App Store that touts full support for iOS 4.2. If that's not proof that iOS 4.2 is mere hours or days away, then I don't know what is.

Although iPhone users running iOS 4.1 already have access to Game Center, remember that our iPad toting friends currently do not, along with many other features like multitasking, and folders. If Big Bad Sudoku Book's latest App Store approval is any indicator, I'd say that the wait is just about over.

iOS 4.2 Jailbroken on Arrival

Jeff Benjamin ∙ October 29, 2010

When Apple releases the final version of iOS 4.2 to the public next month, you shouldn't have to wait long before a jailbreak is released. The jailbreak might even be released on the same day that Apple makes iOS 4.2 available to the masses.

A couple of days ago, iOS hacker iH8sn0w posted an image of an iPad, one obviously on firmware iOS 4.2, running the jailbreak only mobile terminal app. As we reported earlier, due to the nature of the jailbreak, the quick turnaround time should be something we should see going forward, because one of the exploits is a hardware exploit that, according to hackers, can't be patched...

VLC for iPhone Released

Alex Heath ∙ Updated January 24, 2016

VLC media player was just updated as a universal app for iPhone and iPad in the App Store. The popular, open source, cross platform media player has been a favorite on Windows, OS X and Linux for years.

Awhile back, VLC released an iPad app in the App Store, and surprisingly the app was approved. VLC for iPhone allows you to play nearly every kind of video format known to man. The app clearly duplicates (and in my opinion, makes better) the video playback functionality of the the native iPod app. So, it's interesting that Apple has finally approved it.

The developers of the VideoLAN player just got the VLC 1.1.0 update approved, which lets VLC run on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and recent iPod touch models. I downloaded the app, and I was impressed.

TouchPad – A Seamless Extension of Your Mac on Your iPhone

Alex Heath ∙ Updated January 28, 2019

There are plenty of apps in the App Store for using your iPhone to remotely control your Mac. I've tested plenty of remote apps for the iPhone. Some of them are ok. Some of them are unbearable.

Recently, I stumbled across Edovia Software's TouchPad app. TouchPad is by far the best, all-in-one remote app for the iPhone...

App For Songwriters Comes to the iPhone

Guest Author ∙ Updated January 24, 2016

The days of being a songwriter have undoubtedly changed over time. The times of hunching over a ripped up piece of notebook paper while you ferociously scribble out and add material have come and gone for the most part.

Nowadays many writers I know use their computers for generating new material. A recent app in the App Store entitled Songwriter's Pad 1.0.1 brings music composition to the middle of your iPhone. With an already successful iPad entry, the app written by Dante Moore offers artists an opportunity to create material with a variety of tools.

iPhone iOS 4.2 improving YouTube & CoreMIDI Support?

Guest Author ∙ Updated March 27, 2018

Every time there is an update in the iPhone's operating system the leaks start pouring in when the betas start getting passed out. This time with 4.2 it is no different. An improvement or adjustment I took notice in was the supposed tweaks to the YouTube experience and CoreMIDI support.

iLounge reports that the YouTube additions start and (apparently) end with adding of "Like" and "Dislike" buttons. If this is true it obviously offers no solace to those who've fallen in love with jailbreak app, YourTube 2...

iPhone Helping Autistic Kids

Guest Author ∙ Updated October 10, 2018

This story makes so much sense that I feel inferior for only realizing the potential just now. The idea of using a touchscreen to help children suffering from autism is brilliantly simple. The fact is that the iPhone might have the best and most simple system in iOS and the two were destined to help each other.

News Channel 10 out of Amarillo Texas has a report that centers on the benefits of using the iPhone to help the children dealing with the ailments that autism has. An app that focuses itself on speech therapy works by having the kids just touch the correct picture of whatever sound is being played. Magical, isn't it?
