Apple has reportedly put its ‘iPad Pro’ project on hold

Folks looking forward to Apple's rumored 13-inch tablet may want to pick something else to pine over for a while. According to a new report, the Cupertino company has shelved its so-called 'iPad Pro' project due to various developmental issues.

Citing supply chain and channel inventory sources, Digitimes is reporting today that multiple vendors are running into problems producing larger tablets. The biggest hurdle seems to be a lack of support from platform developers and ecosystems...

New display panels in development could hint at larger iPhone, iPad and iWatch

If you've been watching the rumor mill over the last 6 months or so, you know that 2014 is expected to be huge for Apple. It's believed that both the iPhone and iPad will receive larger displays this year, and the highly anticipated iWatch could drop as early as this fall.

The highly-regarded NPD DisplaySearch added to the speculation this morning, issuing a new research note saying that its supply chain sources are tracking new display sizes with various resolutions in development that could be used in some of Apple's new devices...

Apple reportedly targeting fall launch for new 12-inch iPad

The 12-inch iPad is real, in the opinion of Evercore's Patrick Wang, and it's going to hit the market sometime this fall. The analyst published a research note yesterday claiming that his supply chain sources have confirmed the existence of the larger tablet.

According to Wang's sources, Apple is looking to launch the 12-inch iPad in the second half of this year. The "hybrid" device will be targeted at enterprise users and likely feature a new (possibly quad-core) A8 processor, increased storage and other upgrades...

New rumor calls for 12.9-inch iPad in October 2014, iPhablet in May 2014

A new rumor out from Taiwan alleges that Apple will release a large form-factor iPad with a screen measuring 12.9 inches diagonally in October of next year, primarily aimed at the education market. The next iPhone, the one with a larger screen compared to today's four-inch iPhone 5s/5c, is apparently scheduled to go on sale in May 2014.

I'm not buying the May release date because Apple has never released an iPhone in May. Besides, this would break Apple's tradition of releasing new iPhones in Fall, the practice Tim Cook established with the iPhone 4s introduction on October 4, 2011...

Crazy rumor (or is it?) claims 12.9-inch ‘iPad maxi’ will rock 4K Retina display

As the Wall Street Journal in July gave credence to 12.9-inch iPad speculation, which dates back to a sketchy report published in May 2013, we're now officially in the clear as far as crazy rumors go. The mythical iPad designed for real men - let's call it the 'iPad maxi' for the time being, shall we? - could give Retina a new meaning by incorporating an ultra high-resolution 4K screen.

If true, the device's advanced display will manage to squeeze 8+ million pixels typically found on desktop monitors - such as Dell's latest 27-incher or Sharp's 32-inch IGZO monitor - onto a canvas which measures less than thirteen inches diagonally.

Given that Amazon and Google now have tablets that outperform the iPad's 2,047-by-1,536 pixel resolution screen, I imagine Apple must be very interested to reclaim the Highest-Resolution Tablet crown it once held...

Apple reportedly taps Quanta for late-2014 iPad Maxi and iWatch mass production

Quanta Computer, an Apple supplier mainly responsible for assembly work concerning computers like the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, may have been tasked with building Apple's two next big things, a rumored health/fitness wearable device and an assumed big screen iPad.

The company and its Fremont, California plant are listed on Apple's Supplier Responsibility Page as a final assembler for Macs and now the notoriously hit-and-miss DigiTimes is reporting that Quanta has inked a deal to product the so-called iPad Maxi for the late-2014, in addition to iWatch production for the second half of next year...

Rumor: 12.9-inch iPad screen in production by ‘first tier display supplier’

We've heard some rumblings about a 12.9-inch iPad before and now The Korea Times reports Apple is moving to release a bigger iPad some time in 2014 as a "first tier display supplier" has reportedly kicked off mass manufacture of the panels. Apple will introduce a 12.9-inch iPad "early next year," the report claims.

Conventional wisdom teaches us that Apple may be interested to meet growing demand for larger form-factor mobile devices, especially with PC sales continuously shrinking and phablets by Samsung and others now moving millions of units. An iPad Maxi, anyone?

Apple reportedly moving forward with larger iPad

The first time we heard that Apple was working on a 12+ inch iPad, we dismissed it as a crazy rumor. Why on earth would the company want to go larger than its current 9.7-inch tablet, which already seems to be getting eclipsed by the 7.9-inch mini?

But the more you hear a rumor, the harder it gets to ignore. And tonight, for the third time, a report has surfaced claiming that Apple is indeed moving forward with plans for this larger iPad, and it has already tapped Quanta Computer to produce it...

What a 12.9-inch iPad looks like next to an iPad 4, MacBook Air

Earlier this year, a report from a Korean news site claimed that Apple was looking at the possibility of launching a 12.9-inch iPad in early 2014. We called the story 'crazy,' as among other things, it called for the monstrous tablet to be named the 'iPad maxi.'

Surprisingly, though, late last month the Wall Street Journal corroborated the report, saying it had it on good authority that Apple was really working on such a device. And on the off chance that it ever makes it to market, here's what it could look like...

WSJ: Apple testing 13-inch iPad, larger iPhones

Apple and its suppliers are testing larger screens for iPhones and tablets, according to a new report by The Wall Street Journal. The outlet claims the Cupertino company has asked its Asian partners for a wide range of screen sizes for prototype devices.

In recent months, Apple has requested smartphone screens larger than 4 inches—the size of the displays on its current iPhone and iPod, as well as screen designs for a new tablet device that is said to measure slightly less than 13 inches diagonally...

Crazy rumor calls for 12.9-inch ‘iPad maxi’ in early-2014

Sorting through the ocean of rumors today, I stumbled upon a Chinese report suggesting a twice as sharp Retina display on the next iPhone. While there's some chance we could see Apple develop a higher-resolution iPhone at some point, another sketchy report claims that the company is also working on a much larger iPad with a 12.9-inch display.

If true, this would put the rumored 'iPad maxi' in the range of netbooks and notebooks and appeal to niche market verticals, such as digital photographers, pro video editors, designers, content creators and so forth...
