Jailbreak Tweaks to check out

There's been a bevy of iOS 11-centric jailbreak tweaks launching in Cydia lately, and many of them augment the experience in ways that we could only dream of on a stock device.

In this roundup, we’ll discuss all the jailbreak tweaks released throughout the past week. As always, we’ll kick things off by talking about our favorite releases first, and then we’ll outline the rest afterward.

Apple stops signing iOS 11.3

Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3 on Wednesday, a move that prevents iPhone and iPad users from downgrading or restoring to this particular version of iOS through iTunes.

The Cupertino-based company regularly stops signing older iOS versions just a couple of weeks after releasing a new software update. Given how Apple just released iOS 11.3.1 a little more than a week ago, this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

BottomControlX brings the classic Control Center gesture to the iPhone X

Much like other iOS handsets, the iPhone X comes equipped with Control Center for quick access to your favorite toggles, shortcuts, and features. But Apple made the gesture entirely different on its latest flagship by requiring you to pull down from the top right corner of the display.

If you don’t particularly enjoy this stock gesture on your iPhone X, then you may want to consider installing a new free jailbreak tweak called BottomControlX by iOS developer XCXiao.

KeenLab demos a jailbroken iPhone X with iOS 11.3.1

KeenLab is renowned for demonstrating successful jailbreaks on Apple’s latest firmware, and it seems that they’ve done it once again.

Presenting at InfiltrateCon 2018, KeenLab security researcher Liang Chen demonstrated a fully-jailbroken iPhone X running iOS 11.3.1, which was released by Apple less than one week ago as of this writing.

It seems like we’ve been waiting a while to hear back from Saurik about his progress on official iOS 11 support for Cydia and Substrate, but meanwhile, many developers are producing tweaks that work on devices jailbroken with CoolStar’s Electra tool.

In this roundup, we’ll talk about all the jailbreak tweaks released throughout the past week. As always, we’ll kick things off by talking about our favorites and then outline the rest of the releases afterward.

This tweak lets you close folders with a pinch gesture

Folders can be convenient for keeping your iPhone or iPad’s Home screen methodical, but Apple could have put more thought into the folder-closing experience; more specifically, the gesture used to exit an open folder.

Fortunately, the jailbreak community now offers the perfect solution. A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed PinchToCloseFolders by iOS developer Maddox lets you close out of folders with a simple pinch gesture.

This tweak removes the app bar from the iOS 11 Messages app

One of my most significant quarrels with iOS 11 is the app bar that appears at the bottom of the Messages app. I never use extensions while iMessaging friends and family, so it feels somewhat intrusive to me that Apple pushes the app bar down my throat in every conversation.

Anyone in agreeance may want to try a new free jailbreak tweak called NoMoreAppBar by iOS developer Reed Haffner. Just as the name implies, this tweak removes the app bar from the iOS 11 Messages app.

Aerify gives your iPhone a nicer volume HUD

The stock volume HUD is one of the most recognized pain points among iOS users of all types. Fortunately, jailbreaking offers a way to customize how it looks so that you don’t have an enormous eyesore popping up in the center of your screen all the time.

Aerify by iOS developer LonestarX is one of the latest jailbreak tweaks to tackle the volume HUD problem in iOS, and it does so in a pleasant way; best of all, it won’t cost you any money.
