Apple granted key patent for ‘iWallet’

Many Android device manufacturers have opted to include near field communication (NFC) technology inside of their devices. NFC allows customers to transmit data between two devices. The biggest use for NFC is for mobile payments – which Google has been actively pursuing with its Google Wallet technology.

Apple has been granted a new patent for the 'iWallet' from the United States Trademark & Patent Office, as outlined by Patently Apple. The new patent allows for Apple to include NFC technology into the iPhone for mobile payments...

The New York Post is reporting today that Apple is pushing ahead with plans to launch its own subscription TV service. The publication claims that Apple is looking to roll out the service by Christmas this year, despite serious push-back from major content providers.

Apple is currently working on a new file format for its iCloud service, according to reports.

Writing for The Guardian, Charles Arthur cites sources with "inside knowledge" and claims that Apple is set to bring a new format to the music world which will allow for adaptive streaming of music from iCloud, with the quality being altered depending on the playback method.

Apple's iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match both rely on music being stored on servers owned by the technology company. Being able to alter the music quality as it is being distributed could potentially save in bandwidth costs for the end user...

Vimeo releases iOS app update, featuring full screen video playback on iPad

Vimeo is a popular alternative to YouTube for sharing videos. Vimeo is known for hosting higher quality pieces and short films, thanks to its pro accounts. The service previously had just an iPhone app, but today has updated its app to version 2.0, bringing support for the iPad.

The iPad UI lets you navigate through Vimeo's functionality natively and also lets you play video full screen. As you can see, it looks very high quality.

Adobe Photoshop Touch for iPad makes reappearance in App Store

Saturday night, Adobe launched its new Photoshop Touch for iPad app into the App Store in Australia , New Zealand and more, but quickly pulled the app shortly after. We assume someone pulled the trigger a little early.

iBooks FairPlay DRM finally cracked

So this is pretty interesting. A MobileRead forum poster is claiming that Apple's "FairPlay" iBooks DRM has finally been cracked. The Digital Rights Management has previously kept users from reading purchased iBooks content on non-iOS devices.

This means that, with the appropriate software, users will now be able to essentially "unlock" their iBooks to make them compatible with other devices that recognize the ePub eBook format...

I was lucky enough to grow up 15 minutes away from the Cavern Club in Liverpool. The club is best known as being the cradle of British pop music and is synonymous with the Beatles. Growing up in the area and having strong ties to Liverpool itself means I'm a big fan of the fab 4.
