Apple is expected to unveil a number of new products this fall, including a revamped iPod touch, with a 4-inch display, and an all-new iPod nano. But the two most anticipated announcements are for the new iPhone (obviously), and the rumored iPad mini.

Despite Apple's attempts at secrecy, a number of major news outlets have confirmed that the company will be unveiling a refreshed smartphone, and a smaller tablet, at its September 12 media event. And we even (think we) have a good idea of what they look like...

We've heard the reports from "insider sources," and we've seen the leaked parts. But just in case you had any doubts that Apple was on the verge of releasing a new iPhone, check this out.

A handset, believed to be one of Apple's next smartphones, has been spotted pinging a developer's server logs. Codenamed iPhone 5,2, this could be a sign that a release is imminent...

Apple's iPhone media event isn't expected to happen for another 6 weeks, but the tech world is fairly confident in what the handset is going to look like. Since May of this year, we've seen several parts surface from different sources that all point to the same two-tone design.

And more evidence of the theory has surfaced today. Some new pictures are starting to make their way around the web of what some folks believe to be a finalized prototype for the next iPhone...

Sharp confirms display shipments for iPhone 5

Sharp president Takashi Okuda today confirmed to Reuters that his company will begin shipping displays for Apple's sixth-generation iPhone this month. This is the first time to my knowledge that a major supplier officially confirmed an unreleased Apple product, even if he didn't give a more specific date for shipments beyond this month. The panels will be four inches corner to corner, 30 percent bigger than current iPhones, sources told the news gathering organization...

The perfect wrist watch, a Star Trek communicator of sorts if you will, may be on the horizon if a new rumor by iLounge is anything to go by. Remember, the site reported on Monday that the mini iPad could hit the market in November, with thinner fourth-generation iPad being readied for early 2013 release along with two new iPhone cases for the iPhone 5 launch this fall.

Today, the publication reports on some interesting new tidbits regarding a possible Bluetooth 4.0 wireless networking for the next iPod nano plus a rumored eight-pin (like MagSafe) dock connector for the next iPhone...

The next iPhone and in-cell display tech

A certain hit-and-miss Asian trade publication (I know, don't start) reported this morning that the initial shipment of a sixth-generation iPhone could be disrupted due to yield problems with in-cell panels the device is believed to adopt.

Apparently, suppliers are experiencing yield rates too low to generate profits, despite the fact that Apple allegedly offered an estimated $10-15 per-panel subsidy. Really, what's up with in-cell tech and the next iPhone?

Last night, iMore published a report claiming that Apple was going to unveil its new iPhone, and other products, at a media event on September 12th. The note also said that the handset would be released the following week.

While a September launch seems a bit early, considering last year's timeframe, evidence is really piling up in its favor. In fact, a new report is out this afternoon reaffirming the date...

The tech world was set on fire yesterday with images of what appeared to be a nearly-assembled next-generation iPhone. While we've seen similar parts, separately, over the past few months, put together they seemed to carry a lot more weight.

Thanks to leaked components and industry sources, it feels like we know just about everything there is to know about Apple's new smartphone. We [think we] know what it looks like, and what new features it will have. But we haven't heard much about its release date, until now.

A new report is out this evening claiming that Apple is planning to unveil the sixth-generation iPhone at a "special event" on Wednesday, September 12, and it's expected to release the handset the following week. But that's not all the Cupertino company has in store...

Poll: do you like the two-tone iPhone 5 design?

A surprising amount of tidbits that have come out of the rumor-mill point to a two-tone design for a sixth-generation iPhone, be it home buttons, front and back plates, leaked schematics and engineering samples or even fan artwork.

The case for a two-tone iPhone has become much stronger earlier today when a repair shop put together all those parts floating around Asia, seemingly depicting what a fully-assembled iPhone 5 could look like. The thing ticks all the right boxes, like a relocated headphone jack on the bottom, a smaller 19-pin dock connector and a taller four-inch display (both confirmed by credible media outlets).

No matter from which angle you look at it, the assembly does look legit. It's plausible design-wise with its high-quality milled aluminum feel, thinner appearance and a slightly beveled shiny edge. As always, some people will love the new look and others will loathe it simply because it doesn't look new enough. Which side of the fence you're on?
