CoolStar to release open-source Chimera13 jailbreak in memory of @s0uthwes

Chimera Banner Image.

Just over two weeks ago, Electra Team lead developer CoolStar announced that the Chimera13 jailbreak wouldn’t be released to the general public. But due to some rather unfortunate circumstances that transpired this past week, that mindset appears to be changing.

From what we can gather, @s0uthwes a respected and talented developer of the jailbreak community and a maintainer of the popular TSSChecker and futurerestore utilities, has passed away. He was fighting incurable aggressive leukemia, and unfortunately, succumbed to the ailment.

Checkra1n team launches PongoKit for checkm8-vulnerable iOS devices

The checkra1n team is best known for their checkm8 bootrom exploit-based checkra1n jailbreak tool, which just yesterday picked up support for Linux after being macOS-only for several months. We’ve known for quite some time that the checkra1n team intended to delve into more than just jailbreaking with the checkm8 bootrom exploit, and the fruits of such research are finally starting to surface.

The checkra1n team took to Twitter early Thursday morning to announce the initial release of PongoKit, a highly experimental and developer-only SDK that should help permit the deployment of other platforms on checkm8 vulnerable iOS devices:

Fugu: An early concept open source jailbreak project based on checkm8

Checkra1n has long enjoyed its prestigious status of being the first and only jailbreak tool to take advantage of the checkm8 bootrom exploit, but could that change in the near future?

A curious new posting shared just this evening on /r/jailbreak appears to detail a new jailbreak tool dubbed Fugu that is being dubbed the “first open-source jailbreak tool based on the checkm8 exploit” by its creator Linus Henze. This eye-popping development certainly grabbed our attention, but a closer look at the project's GitHub page reveals the fine print:

Zebra updated to v1.0.6 with more bug fixes & improvements

Jailbreakers on iOS 9 through 13 who are donning the new Zebra package manager may be excited to learn that there’s a brand-new update available as of Sunday afternoon that squashes another substantial handful of bugs. The latest release of Zebra is now version 1.0.6

AltDeploy v1.1 brings a new icon, support for multiple Apple IDs, and more

In the absence of any updates to Saurik’s jailbreak-centric Cydia Impactor tool since it stopped working several months ago, Chimera, Electra, and unc0ver jailbreak users have faced frustrating times. Luckily, a working alternative called AltDeploy made its first public debut a few days ago.

Just this weekend, AltDeploy received its second official update since being released. The latest update brings the young side-loading utility up to version 1.1 and incorporates both bug fixes and improvements that help make the app better for end users.

Zebra v1.0.5 released with more bug fixes and improvements

The Zebra package manager for jailbroken iOS devices received a fresh update Friday evening, officially bringing the software up to version 1.0.5.

Just like previous updates issued before today, Zebra 1.0.5 incorporates beaucoup bug fixes and improvements that are expected to improve the package manager’s user experience in day-to-day usage.

Zebra v1.0.3 released with speed and reliability improvements, bug fixes

If you’ve been tinkering with the new Zebra package manager on your jailbroken iOS device ever since it was officially released to the public on New Year’s Day, then you should know that there’s a new update out as of Sunday morning that you won’t want to miss.

Zebra version 1.0.3 is now available, and unlike the tiny update released just a couple of days ago, this one is jam-packed with a plethora of bug fixes and improvements that should make it more reliable in daily use.

Security researcher Umang Raghuvanshi open-sources Sock Puppet 3 exploit for iOS 12.4

Matrix code hacked iPhone.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve undoubtedly witnessed the staggered inclusion of support for iOS 12.4 in the Electra Team’s Chimera jailbreak tool and Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver jailbreak tweak over the course of the past month. This feat was made possible with a revised version of the Sock Puppet exploit dubbed Sock Puppet 3 by security researcher Umang Raghuvanshi (@umanghere).

From what we can gather, today (Sunday, September 8th) is Raghuvanshi’s Birthday, and the lad has opted to celebrate his special day by open sourcing the Sock Puppet 3 exploit to the general public, a move that he hopes will contribute to even more great works in the community:

Unc0ver v3.5.6 adds support for remounting and rootFS restore for A12(X) devices on iOS 12.1.3-12.4

Pwn20wnd updated the unc0ver jailbreak Saturday afternoon, officially bringing it up to version 3.5.6 with increased support for A12(X) devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.4.

As you might recall, Pwn20wnd released unc0ver v3.5.5 earlier this week with SSH support on the aforementioned device and firmware combinations, but citing a Tweet shared just this afternoon, the latest unc0ver update adds support for remounting and restoring the RootFS on those same devices:

Unc0ver v3.5.5 released with SSH support on A12(X) devices running iOS 12.1.3-12.4, bug fixes

Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver jailbreak has received lots of updates recently, mostly pertaining to bug fixes and stability improvements centric to the newfangled iOS 12.4 support that came by way of an updated Sock Puppet exploit under a week ago. But as you might’ve noticed, this didn’t initially include support for Apple’s latest handsets, such as the A12(X) variety.

Pwn20wnd changed that Thursday afternoon, at least partially, with the launch of unc0ver versions 3.5.4 and 3.5.5. Both updates were announced via Twitter:
