Is Facebook reading your text messages? [update: no]

Adding to the recent privacy scare that has been taking place among iOS apps, London-based newspaper Sunday Times is reporting that popular social network Facebook has read users' text messages.

In the report, Sunday Times says that when Facebook was gearing up to launch their new Messenger app, they "admitted" to reading text messages. Facebook's Messenger app plays a similar role to texting, letting you quickly fire off messages to your Facebook friends. It's not known if the issue still continues, but is scary nonetheless...

Tim Cook thinks Apple and Facebook could work together more

Apple's iOS and Mac integration with Twitter is a relatively new thing, and one that has had impressive results for the social network with reports of a 25% increase in sign-ups coming after the release of iOS 5. While Twitter is currently the only social network tied into iOS, that may not always be the case.

During a shareholder's meeting today, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that the company could become closer to Twitter's largest rivals, Facebook, and that he has personally always thought the two could work more closely.

The news will come as music to the ears of Mark Zuckerberg and his band of cronies, with any link to Apple being a veritable gold mine these days...

Steve Job’s life documented in a fascinating Facebook timeline [updated]

Since the passing of the late Steve Jobs, we've seen many tributes relating to the man behind Apple. Cult Of Mac have come across an extraordinary rendition of such a tribute.

It's a fascinating look into Job's life in none less than a Facebook timeline, documenting his life since the day he was born. As Killian Bell points out, the people behind this tribute must have put a heck of a lot of work into this.

Facebook hires former Apple marketing executive

It looks like Facebook is looking to beef up its advertising game, as reports are coming in that the social network has recently hired a former Apple marketing executive.

Rebecca Van Dyck, who worked on a number of high profile projects at Apple, including its iPhone, iPad, and iPod lines, is now Facebook's head of global marketing...

GeoHot Quit His Job at Facebook, Now a Full-Time Hacker

Those of you who have been jailbreaking for a while will undoubtedly know George "GeoHot" Hotz, the guy who brought to us the very first iPhone unlock, back in 2008. Since then, GeoHot developed several jailbreaks, including purplera1n, blackra1n, and limera1n.

Then in 2011, GeoHot was sued by Sony for jailbreaking the PlayStation 3. The matter was quickly settled out of court, and GeoHot started working for Facebook shortly after.

Things are moving along for GeoHot though. According to Business Insider, he recently quit his position at Facebook. So what is he doing now?

MissionControl: A Menu Based Multitask Switcher

Not to be confused with the Mission Control that's standard on all OS X Lion builds, MissionControl is a Cydia tweak that adds menu based multitasking to the iPhone.

Using Activator as a means to invoke the menu, MissionControl is a simple alternative for those who want lots of predefined options in an organized menu.

This free tweak contains quick links to Cydia, Twitter, Facebook, Wi-Fi settings, and more...

iOS Code Reveals Future Facebook Integration?

iOS 5 was released last fall with deep Twitter integration throughout the entire operating system. Many speculated that Apple would also add Facebook integration, but the day never came. You may also remember rumors of an Apple and Facebook partnership back before iOS 4 debuted.

This could be changing however, as iMore discovered iOS code referencing Facebook...

Instagram Gets Friendly With Facebook

One of my favorite social networks, Instagram, just got a whole lot more friendly with Facebook. Photos that you now send from Instagram on your iPhone to Facebook will be automatically added to a folder called "Instagram Photos" in their full size.

Not only will your Instagrams appear full size on your Timeline in all of their retro glory, but every pic is consolidated into one helpful photo album for reference.

Buffer Lets You Queue Your Tweets on Your iPhone

We've been big fans of Buffer for a while now, and we've been waiting for the startup's iPhone app for what feels like forever. The wait is finally over.

Released over the Christmas holiday, the native iPhone app version of Buffer brings a more polished portal into the world of scheduled tweets and Facebook status updates, and it has been well worth the wait.

What's even better is the app is free, meaning there really is no reason to not give it a try...

Facebook iPhone App Updated to Include New Facebook Timeline Feature

Facebook may have only just launched its brand new Timeline feature to the vast majority of its 800+ million users, but that hasn't stopped the social network giant from being uncharacteristically quick to update its mobile apps.

Facebook has pushed its latest update to its universal iOS app, but the Timeline feature is currently only available as part of the iPhone and iPod touch version of the app. Facebook noted in the app's change log that the iPad app will get Timeline soon.

It is also worth noting that the biggest part of this update, the highly-anticpated Timeline view, will not show up in the updated app unless you have already activated it on your account from Facebook's website.

Spotfb: Execute Spotlight Commands to Launch Facebook Sections

Spotfb is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to launch different sections of the official Facebook app by means of predefined Spotlight commands.

All you need to do is swipe over to your Spotlight page, type the command, and tap return. It'll then launch the specific Facebook page that pertains to the command that you typed.

Honestly, we're not sure who would be willing to use such a tweak; it'd be much faster to just launch the app and venture to your desired section, wouldn't it?
