How To: Manually Enable Multitasking for Cydia in iOS 4

Cydia's recent update made the jailbroken app store faster and brought about some other nice improvements. One of those new features was the ability to resume your place in Cydia after exiting the app, so you weren't forced to start over each time you closed it.

Though it was a major step up from the previous version, it's not real multitasking. Downloading something in Cydia typically renders the rest of your iPhone helpless, but what if I told you there was an easy way to enable true multitasking?

AndroidLoader Helps You View All Your iPhone Apps in One Place

We like to give Android a hard time here at iDB, but we can also recognize when the platform offers features that the iPhone is still missing. It was only last week that I thought to myself it would be nice to have some kind of Android-like feature that would allow me to view all my applications in one place, without having to flick through several pages of apps.

It seems that iOS jailbreak developer Surenix heard me as he created AndroidLoader, an app that seems to do exactly what I was wishing for. Or does it?

FolderLock: Password Protect Folders, the Settings App, and Multitasking

It seems like the gears of the underground iOS development have been rapidly turning for the past month. There has been a steady flow of new and innovative tweaks and applications over the last several weeks, and it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.

FolderLock, developed by Andrea Oliva, just went live in the BigBoss repo. The new jailbreak app will allow you to password protect almost everything in iOS, from folders to the Settings app.

140plus Lets Twitter Users Really Talk it Out

Another Twitter-related jailbreak tweak has hit the underground app store known as Cydia. With over 200 million folks using the social networking service, it's a fairly popular target for developers.

From Moe Seth, the developer who brought you Photector, comes 140plus. This utility will allow users to continue tweeting, even when that pesky 140 character limit rears its head...

SlideAway Jailbreak Tweak Will Enhance Your iPhone’s Lockscreen

The lockscreen has always been an interesting area of the iPhone's interface for jailbreak devs to experiment with. You've got LockInfo, AndroidLock, awesome themed lockscreens, and weirder experiments like RecognizeMe that are all available in Cydia.

The newest addition to the lockscreen enhancement category looks to be SlideAway by popular jailbreak developer, Filippo Bigarella. Filippo has brought us several jailbreak apps in the past, including Springtomize, CleverPin, MyVolume, and NowPlaying for Tweetbot. SlideAway looks to be his greatest creation yet...

Installer 4.0 Making a Comeback to Compete with Cydia?

Earlier this month we reported on the return of a Cydia alternative known as Icy to the jailbreak scene. The renewed package installer came out swinging with a quick and simple user interface, as well as the ability to add all of your favorite sources.

From the same folks that brought you Icy, comes Installer 4.0. The Infini-Dev team posted on their blog yesterday that they had successfully ported Installer to iOS 4.3.3, let the nostalgia and deja vu begin...

New Jailbreak App Helps Ease Your Mind About Location Tracking

When the iPhone's consolidated tracking file was first revealed last month, it took the jailbreak community 24 hours to respond. The day after the story broke, Ryan Petrich released a free Cydia tweak that would clear the iPhone's location history.

But if untrackerd and Apple's own iOS 4.3.3 update haven't dismissed your fears of big brother following your every move, Cydia once again has a solution for you. For all the folks wearing aluminum foil hats out there, here's Footprintz...

Jailbreak Tweak Claims to Improve iDevice Network Throughput Speeds

Italian iDevice blog, iPhoneItalia, pointed to a new Cydia tweak this morning. After some handy Google Translating work, it appears that TCP optimizer is aimed at improving network throughput speeds.

This would improve performance of YouTube and other applications. Although I don't have any beef with the way YouTube is currently running, any tweak that advertises noticeable speed improvements is worth a shot...

RecognizeMe Now Available for Jailbroken iPhone

Yesterday we told you about RecognizeMe, a jailbreak app that lets you use facial recognition to unlock your iPhone. Instead of using a password you can have your face scanned for verification.

RecognizeMe is now available on Cydia for $6.99 via the BigBoss repo. It's undoubtedly one of the coolest jailbreak apps out there, but is it really worth it to spend 10 waiting for your face to be scanned when you could unlock your phone is just about a second?

RecognizeMe Allows for Biometric Facial Recognition on a Jailbroken iPhone

In case you needed one more reason to jailbreak your iPhone, try this on for size: biometric facial recognition. Instead of unlocking your iPhone with a simple password (How boring is that?), you can use the iPhone 4's front-facing camera to scan and recognize your face.

RecognizeMe is a new jailbreak app that helps make your iPhone safe from shady characters and potential homescreen peekers. By matching your face to a pre-defined database, RecognizeMe will unlock your iPhone and give you access to your device.

Action Menu Updated to Support iOS 4.3

If you've been holding off updating to iOS 4.3.x because of the lack of support for some of your favorite jailbreak tweaks and apps, I can understand your position. While I love iOS updates that include tons of bug fixes and new features, I usually don't upgrade right away due to compatibly issues with jailbreak apps and tweaks I couldn't live without on my iPhone.

With that said, if one of those jailbreak tweaks include Action Menu by Ryan Petrich, you'll be glad to know it's finally been updated for iOS 4.3+ support...

Customize Your Emails With Rich Text for Mail

Another day, another reason to jailbreak your iPhone and customize it to the fullest. The latest jailbreak tweak is called Rich Text for Mail by well-known iOS developer Ryan Petrich (@rpetrich).

Rich Text for Mail enables you to compose and reply to emails using custom fonts, colors and styles. That includes adding format, bold, italic, strikethrough, underline and image items to Action Menu. The app works in conjunction with Action Menu, so there are no additional buttons or apps added. Best of all, it adds all these customization tools to the stock iPhone Mail app...
