iOS Promo launches major jailbreak tweak giveaway

We love free stuff here at iDB, and we know you do too. That's why we had to make sure and tell you about iOS Promo's new monster jailbreak tweak giveaway.

The giveaway, for those who haven't heard about it yet, runs from now through July 5th. And it includes a number of some of Cydia's most popular packages...

How to install Cydia on iOS 6 beta

Last week a tethered jailbreak was released for iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation. While it was great to have a jailbreak so soon, the jailbreak didn't include any GUI tools like Cydia, only SSH and afc2 support were added.

Fortunately, now that we have SSH access, we can transfer and install pretty much anything on our jailbroken iOS 6 devices, including Cydia.

Check inside for the full video tutorial that shows you how to install Cydia on iOS 6 beta...

Cydia makes its way to the App Store, but it’s not what you think

The App Store hasn't had any shortage of knockoff apps since its creation a few years ago. When popular games such as Angry Birds or Cut the Rope make their way up the charts, you can expect a few unscrupulous developers to rush and try to get their copycat app approved and available in the App Store in order to make a quick buck.

Surfing on the popularity of Cydia, the App Store for jailbreak apps and tweaks, one shady developer thought that releasing an app called Cydia and making it available to over 300 million iDevices (no jailbreak required, mind you) would be a good idea...

ayecon WinterBoard theme released on Cydia

[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrE8qxkG9ik[/tube]

ayecon, the highly anticipated WinterBoard theme from popular iOS theme designer, Surenix, just made its debut on Cydia's BigBoss repo. To take advantage of the theme, you must have a Retina enabled iPhone or iPod touch, and be running iOS 5 or above.

As you no doubt noticed in our hands-on walkthrough, ayecon is a stunner in the looks department. Although I think our video does a good job at displaying the crazy amount of detail possessed by ayecon, it really needs to be witnessed in person to be totally appreciated.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not nearly as into theming my iPhone as I used to be, but ayecon has helped rekindle my interest somewhat. You can purchase it now for $2.99 on Cydia's BigBoss repo. Let us know what you think about it in the comments.

MountainLionCenter now available on Cydia

[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZZ8tS2cfIk[/tube]

MountainLionCenter — the jailbreak tweak that adds an OS X Mountain Lion inspired Notification Center panel to your iPad, was just released on Cydia's BigBoss repo as a free download.

As noted yesterday, this is a feature that's been long overdue; in my opinion, it makes Notification Center a lot less intrusive feeling on the iPad. Couple it with IntelliScreen X, and it's even better.

It should be noted, that despite my ability to get it working on my iPhone, the tweak has been released as iPad only, at least for the time being. Be sure to check out our full walkthrough of MountainLionCenter, and let me know what you think about it in the comments below.

Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether updated with support for iPhone 4 (GSM) 5.1.1/9B208 build

The Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether was just updated to version 1.0-2, and is now available for download in Cydia. This is the package that is installed on iOS devices that utilize the 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, whether you obtained it via Absinthe, or via the Rocky Racoon installation on a 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak.

This update brings support to the iPhone 4 (GSM) 5.1.1/9B208 build that was recently released by Apple.

Cydia reporting HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error

If you're receiving a HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error when trying to download packages in Cydia, don't worry. Practically everyone is getting that error now because Cydia is so incredibly busy now.

It's the whole "drinking from a fire hose" analogy. There's just too much traffic to handle all of the request because of the recently released Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1...

How to convert an iOS 5.1.1 tethered jailbreak to an untethered jailbreak using Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether

If you currently have an A4 device or below that's jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 using a tethered jailbreak, you can use the new Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package to convert your tethered jailbreak into an untethered jailbreak.

This is great, because you don't have to perform any sort of restore on your already jailbroken device just to change it into a jailbreak of the untethered variety. Even better is the fact that you can download Rocky Racoon from Cydia, and install it just like you would any other package to accomplish an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1.

Inside, we detail the brief steps involved to convert your existing jailbroken device running iOS 5.1.1 into an untethered jailbreak. Join us...

Save your SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1

The Absinthe 2.0 talk is going on right now at Amsterdam's Hack In The Box security conference, so that can only mean that the upcoming untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 is imminent. For this reason, now is a good time to save your SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1 while Apple is still signing the firmware.

Check inside for a full tutorial on how to ensure that your SHSH blobs are saved. You may never need them, but it's much better to be safe than sorry in the event that you do...

Beautiful Unfold lock screen tweak now available and it’s free

Jeff told you about this awesome lock screen tweak on Sunday and I'm happy to report that the Unfold jailbreak tweak is now available for download. It was born out of Anton Kudin's “fold to unlock” concept for the iPhone which immediately captured attention of the jailbreak community.

Three days later, that concept has been brought to reality thanks to German jailbreak developer Jonas Gessner. What this tweak does is pretty simple yet very effective...

WWDC alternative Indiedevlab announces Saurik and other speakers

Late last month, Apple finally put the tickets for its highly-anticipated WWDC event up for sale. But within two hours, the tickets were gone, leaving hundreds of developers out to dry. Luckily, there's another option.

If you're going to be in the San Francisco area around June 11-14, you might want to check out Indiedevlab. No, Scott Forstall won't be there giving a rundown of iOS 6 features. But Saurik and others will be attending...

Discover places abroad with International Locations for Siri

While iPhone 4S owners in the U.S. enjoy a host of location-based Siri functions, folks outside the country are out of luck. Try going to the UK and asking Siri where the nearest McDonalds is, and you're sure to get shot down.

But as usual, the jailbreak community has figured out a way to make up for Apple's shortcomings. A new AssistantExtensions plugin, International Locations for Siri, allows you to perform location-based searches abroad...
