The Likely Reason Why There Will Be No 64GB iPhone 5

Yesterday, we reported that the iPhone 5 might not receive the bump in storage that some have been expecting. Rumors swirling around a screen-grab from a Vodafone inventory listing, suggests that the iPhone 5 will arrive in one of four flavors — a black 16GB or 32GB option, and a white 16GB or 32GB option — 64GB of storage capacity was nowhere to be seen.

Now, at first, that might seem weird considering that Apple's created 64GB iterations of the iPod touch and iPad lineup. But iCloud is right on the horizon, and with it, Apple has effectively eliminated the need for increased local storage capacity in their mobile devices. Check inside to see why...

Google Launches iOS Web App For Google Music

Oh Google, you so crazy! After leaving us iPhone users out in the cold while our Android-toting brethren run around streaming their music from this thing they like to call 'the cloud' (it's a bit like iCloud, I'm told!) you finally decide to bring the Google Music circus to iOS.

In typical Google fashion, things have been implemented a little differently than how we expected. Google Music for iOS isn't a native app, but rather a web app. And it's pretty darn good one...

New aTV Flash Beta Brings Music Player And Cloud Backups to Jailbroken Apple TV

As you may have already noticed, jailbreaking an Apple TV 2 brings a massive wealth of new features to an otherwise mundane little black box.

Not only can you view live sports, stream movies from you Mac or PC, and access weather forecasts, but now you can perform cloud backups, and stream music without using iTunes.

This is made possible with the latest beta release of aTV Flash (black), which is a major upgrade to the previously released beta. More details on how you can snag these new features, plus the full change log, right after the break...

iCloud Too Confusing for Customers?

Apple's iPhone and iPad advertisements totally set them apart from the competition. While TV ads for Android devices spout off specs like "it has a 1.5 GHZ processor and 512 MB of RAM," Apple's commercials use more familiar words like "fast" and "magical."

It's likely that the simplistic strategy is what continues to drive hoards of customers into Apple stores to snatch up their latest gadgets. That being said, for a company known for its oversimplified approach, does their upcoming cloud service seem a bit too complicated?

iCloud Pricing v.s. the Competition

I have to admit, Apple's iCloud service is pretty cool. Deep iOS integration, a cool web portal, and 5GB of free space. But what if you need more than just 5GB of cloud storage? The next step up is 10GB, and that'll run you $20 a year.

The plans go all the way up to $100 a year for 50GB (55GB with your free 5GB). That might seem like a lot for file storage, but it's on par with the competition. In fact, iCloud beats out the popular DropBox service in the bang-for-your-buck category...

iOS 5 Takes ‘PC-Free’ One Step Further with Time Capsule and Airport Base Station Setup

In another step toward killing the PC, Apple's iOS 5 now allows users to set up the company's own Time Capsule and Airport hardware, according to an AppleInsider reader.

Until now, setting up either of Apple's networking solutions required a PC, but once iOS 5 is released later this year, users will be able to get online with nothing more than an iPod touch...

Notefile is the Perfect Minimalist App For Taking Notes on All Your Devices

It's a rare occurrence when a really good app with cloud sync comes out for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Notefile, by Junecloud, is lightweight notebook that syncs your notes between your iPhone, iPad, and even your Mac.

The great thing about Notefile is that it's super minimal— there are literally no settings to customize. All you have to do is login with a free Junecloud ID to start syncing your notes across your devices. It just works!

Free Cloud Sync Coming to Things for iPhone and iPad

The team at Cultured Code, makers of the popular task manager for iOS called "Things," has announced that cloud sync is finally coming to the Things for iPhone and iPad apps.

Things has been one of the premiere GTD (Getting Things Done) apps in the App Store for a long time, but one sorely missed feature has been wireless syncing between Things on the Mac, iPhone and iPad. Cultured Code has announced that invites to start beta testing cloud sync on iOS will be sent out starting August 22. Cloud sync will also be included for Things customers at no additional charge...

Apple Confirms iCloud Will Have Web Apps

Apple has published a transition Q&A that outlines how MobileMe's services will be dissolved and transitioned into iCloud offerings. As of June 30, 2012, MobileMe will cease to exist, and Gallery, iWeb and iDisk will be discontinued.

Among other details, Apple has confirmed that iCloud will in fact offer web apps for Mail, Contacts, Calendar and Find My iPhone.

Apple’s iCloud Using Microsoft and Amazon Cloud Services?

After months of rumors and speculation, Apple revealed the long-awaited iCloud last week. The free service replaces MobileMe for $99/year, and, considering of all the new features, it's expected to be quite popular.

iCloud is available to all Apple account holders, which Apple estimates to be in the 200 million range. So how can iCloud withstand all that traffic? Aside from their massive NC data center and 12 petabyte digital locker, Apple appears to be using rival cloud services...

New iCloud Feature Gives Banned Apps their Second Wind

It appears that the App Store iOS application has received a nice little update. Users are now allowed to re-download previously purchased applications via iCloud, even ones that have been banned by Apple.

These are titles that were accepted into the App Store at one point, but have since been removed due to violation of App Store Guidelines, or simply because Apple said so. But folks longing to play banished apps like iTris again just might be in luck ...
