You Don’t Have to Be a Developer to Install the iOS 5 GM

Yesterday Apple released the iOS 5 GM to developers. This is the final iOS 5 "beta" version to come out before the software's public launch, and in most cases the GM is identical to what gets publicly seeded.

In classic GM fashion, you don't actually have to be a registered developer to install the iOS 5 GM. That doesn't mean that it's not still discouraged, it just means that Apple doesn't check developer UDIDs when installing the iOS 5 GM...

Apple Releases iTunes 10.5 Beta 9 to Developers

Following the reset of iTunes March earlier this week, Apple just released iTunes 10.5 beta 9 for developers, a pre-release version of iTunes with iTunes Match beta. iTunes 10.5 beta 9 includes several performance enhancements and bug fixes, and is a required update for all iTunes Match beta subscribers.

If you use iTunes Match beta, remember that your iCloud libraries will be deleted at the end of this beta. This will require you to scan, match, and upload songs again. Also note that some of the features and optimizations of iTunes Match may not be available during this beta...

Twitter has coincidentally scheduled a pair of "Developer Teatimes" for October 10th and October 12th. The meetings will focus heavily on Twitter's integration with iOS 5 — a feature that was announced by Apple at WWDC this past Summer.

Apple has also told its AppleCare division to expect a high influx of iOS 5-related questions on October 10th. Employee vacation blackouts have also been put in place for the 2nd week of October. Do we finally have our iOS 5 release date?

Video Walkthrough of the New RedSn0w Jailbreak Tool

As we previously reported, RedSn0w received a massive update with its 0.9.9b1 iteration, released a few days ago.

This latest version of RedSn0w is a huge step in the right direction for the iPhone Dev Team, as it includes features like firmware fetching and caching, auto-detection from DFU mode, and SHSH blob management.

We're very excited about the future of RedSn0w, but admittedly, all of the new fangled features can be a bit confusing. For this reason, we've created a brief video walkthrough that touches on some of the new areas of RedSnow...

BiteSMS Beta for iOS 5 Now Available

BiteSMS is without a doubt my favorite jailbreak app. I use it several times a day to write and read text messages. Up until now, you couldn't run BiteSMS on a jailbroken iPhone running iOS 5 beta. But due to the overwhelming demand, the BiteSMS team has decided to release an iOS-compatible version of the app.

Because it is in its early beta development, you can expect BiteSMS to have quite a few bugs. However, the die hard BiteSMS fan that you are will most likely see past those issues and focus on the exciting new features...

Chronic-Dev Team “Actively Working” on the iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

As we near the public launch of iOS 5, many jailbreakers are wondering what the future holds. It was originally thought that Apple was out to kill jailbreaking in iOS 5, and many became even more worried when famed hacker Comex announced that he had been hired by Apple. Was the end drawing near?

We can all rest assured that jailbreaking is alive and well. And after months of there being no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 or the last two releases of iOS 4, the Chronic-Dev Team has said that it is "actively working" on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5...

Testflight for iOS Gets an Update, Makes Beta Testing Even More Fun

Beta testing is a pretty big part of developing iOS apps these days. Once upon a time, a developer could throw an app out there and fix bugs as they went along, but with competition at its fiercest these days, that would be suicide for most. Most apps have so much competition, users will just move onto the next big thing, or find a replacement that works better. Bugs kill apps, and dead apps kill developers.

Beta testing is vital, and Testflight makes it super easy for both the tester and the developer alike...

But the mobile software is set to reach its final build version very soon...

Apple Employees Internally Call an Upcoming iOS 5 Feature “The Kutcher”

Actor and tech entrepreneur Ashton Kutcher is known for his many roles on the sliver screen, as well as the numerous tech startups that he's funded. He is currently in the process of shooting the Two And A Half Men TV show as Charlie Sheen's replacement.

Mr. Kutcher apparently has some influence with the folks at Apple in Cupertino, in fact, Apple internally refers to an upcoming feature in iOS 5 as "The Kutcher." Why? We have absolutely no idea...
