Apple seeds OS X Yosemite Preview 4, redesigned iTunes 12 and Yosemite Recovery Update

In addition to seeding the fourth beta of iOS 8 this morning, Apple has also released the fourth Developer Preview of its new OS X Yosemite operating system. The update comes two weeks after Preview 3, and well over a month after Apple announced Yosemite at WWDC.

The update is labeled as build preview 4 1.0 and can be downloaded via an update in the Mac App Store, or as a full download from Apple’s online developer center. It does not, however, appear to be out in Apple’s recently-launched public Yosemite Beta Seed program yet…

Alongside Developer Preview 4 of OS X Yosemite, Apple launched a new beta version of iTunes 12 this morning. The most notable change in the software is its refreshed interface, which features flatter UI elements, greater space between buttons, and other iOS 7-esque design language.

iTunes 12 also brings about a new icon, as well as a host of new features. Included in the new functionality is support for Family Share, a new option Apple announced at WWDC last month for sharing iTunes purchases, improved playlists, a redesigned information window, and more...

New in iOS 8: App Store trending searches

At WWDC back in June, Apple announced several nice-to-haves aimed at improving the oft-criticized app discovery with new App Store features. Among them: trending searches.

It should be noted that first mentions of this feature being active date as far back as a week ago. It's however unclear whether everyone on the latest iOS 8 beta is seeing hot searches or just a subset of Apple's registered iOS developers.

Be that as it may, trending searches are tremendously useful and bound to help developers get their apps found in the App Store. As the name suggests, the feature surfaces hot search queries at any given time...

iOS 8 Beta 4 could arrive next Monday

If history is anything to go by, Apple could seed the next beta of iOS 8 to its registered developers later this month. As in, precisely two weeks after iOS 8 Beta 3 dropped.

As you know, the third beta arrived on July 7, bringing Wi-Fi Calling for T-Mobile iPhones and a host of under-the-hood tweaks and enhancements.

If BGR's sources are right, iOS 8 Beta 4 should be expected on Monday, July 21. Keep in mind that BGR does not have the most reliable of sources and that the publication has been wrong before in predicting dates for iOS betas...

Apple offering Xcode 6 beta for free on new Swift blog

Apple today launched a new blog on its developer portal for its Swift programming language. The company introduced the new language at WWDC last month, and it says this will be a way to keep devs up to date on its progress.

The news is interesting for a couple of reasons. For one, it's not like Apple to talk publicly about projects it's working on—particularly via a blog. It's also worth noting that it has posted a free version of its Xcode 6 beta on the site...

OS X Yosemite Developer Preview usage 4x greater than Mavericks

Adoption rates of the OS X Yosemite Developer Preview are smashing records with four times greater usage than its predecessor, OS X Mavericks. Developers' striking interest in the software is evidenced by usage stats web analytics firm Chitika provided Wednesday.

According to data, adoption figures of the Yosemite betas in North America have significantly outpaced those of OS X Mavericks, by as much as a factor of four.

Early adopters have helped OS X Yosemite Developer Preview hit 0.20 percent of total U.S. and Canadian web traffic originating from Mac OS X. By comparison, the OS X Mavericks Developer Preview was only able to hit a meager 0.05 percent mark after 30 days...

New Apple TV, Find My iPhone and Find My Friends betas also available

As Apple seeds a third beta of both iOS 8 (build 12A4318c) and OS X Yosemite Developer Preview (build 14A283j) to developers, we're dutifully updating our articles with a running list of changes.

In the meantime, new betas of the accompanying Apple TV firmware - as well as Find My iPhone and Find My Friends betas - are now available to Apple's registered iOS developers through the company's Dev Center...

Apple seeds iOS 8 beta 3 to developers: here is what’s new

Nearly three weeks after releasing the second beta of iOS 8, Apple has this morning seeded the third beta of iOS 8 to developers. The beta is labeled as build 12a4318c, and is available for compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.

If you're a registered iOS developer, you can grab the new beta from either the online dev portal as a standalone download, or via your device's OTA (over-the-air) update mechanism. You'll find all the details on beta 3 after the break...

Apple warns developers of incoming CloudKit data wipe, suggesting iOS 8 beta 3 might be around the corner

Apple just sent an email to its registered developers warning them that the company will be performing a server-side CloudKit data wipe for iOS 8 beta and OS X Yosemite Developer Preview, on Monday July 7.

If this data wipe is not unusual, it definitely comes at an interesting time, suggesting that not surprisingly, iOS 8 beta 3 and and the third OS X Yosemite Developer Preview might be right around the corner...

IntelliScreenX beta with iOS 7.1.x support available

The release of the Pangu jailbreak for iOS 7.1.x last month was both a gift and a curse. It brought about a way for folks to jailbreak the latest iOS firmware, but it also broke a lot of popular packages in Cydia.

Several developers have already updated their tweaks to work with 7.1.x, and today we're adding another one to the list (sort of). Intelliborn has posted a beta version of IntelliScreenX with support for 7.1.x...

Apple has seeded the fourth beta of OS X 10.9.4 to registered Mac developers for testing. This latest OS X Mavericks beta has the build number 13E25 and arrives just six days following the third OS X 10.9.4 beta release. As with most of these minor build releases, it is unknown exactly what changes that Apple has made, but we should be nearing a public release soon…
