This app tells you what apps are battery hogs

Some days, my iPhone 5 works all day with very little battery drain. Other days, it seems like I’ve run out of juice after minimal usage. I’ve always wondered which activities are the biggest culprits in my battery drainage.

Normal: Battery Analytics is a diagnostics app that uses general information about your device and compares it with that of thousands of other iPhone users to help you determine which apps should be killed and which should be deleted altogether in order to spare your battery life.

New photos claim to show 5.5-inch iPhone 6 display, logic board and battery

Some new photos popped up online this evening, showing what are said to be components for the 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6. The claim is significant, as unlike the 4.7-inch model, we've seen just a handful of parts belonging to the larger handset.

Among the parts are a display panel, logic board, and perhaps more interesting, a battery. The battery runs at 4.35 volts, and has a capacity of 2,915 mAH. If legit, this would put the 5.5-inch iPhone ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in terms of battery size...

Samsung takes ‘Wall Huggers’ campaign to airports

Samsung's much-talked-about anti-iPhone campaign dubbed 'Wall Huggers' is expanding to select airports, which are among the most trafficked public spots and traditionally the domain of iPhone and MacBook-toting users.

After poking fun of the iPhone's appalling battery performance with its controversial 30-second television spot, the South Korean conglomerate is now displaying Galaxy S5 ads at power outlets throughout major airports.

The posters advertises the Galaxy S5's Ultra Power Saving mode and features a tagline saying "So you have the power to be anywhere but here" in a not-so-subtle dig at Apple's iPhone 5s campaign which revolves around the tagline "You're more powerful than you think"...

Apple awarded new patent on wireless charging

We don't know if the upcoming iPhone 6 is going to feature wireless charging technology or not, but we do know that Apple is working on it. The Cupertino company has been awarded multiple patents on wire-free charging tech over the years, and today we're adding a new one to the stack.

The USPTO granted Apple the rights to a new invention this week based on NFMR (or near-field magnetic resonance) technology. NFMR is different from the inductive charging tech used by most manufacturers these days, as it's capable of wirelessly charging devices up to one meter away...

Rumor: 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has 2,100mAh battery

As Apple gears up to unveil the iPhone 6 on September 9, rumors of the handset's battery capacity have been picking up steam lately, especially in light of Samsung's anti-iPhone 'Wall Huggers' advertisement which slams the handset's inadequate battery module.

We've already shown you images of a purported 1,810 mAh iPhone 6 battery and now one analyst has reopened the topic, alleging that a 4.7-inch variant will have a bigger 2,100mAh module versus a 1,570mAh battery found inside the iPhone 5s/5c...

NomadPlus turns your iPhone charger into a 1,500 mAh backup battery

Boy, that new anti-iPhone Samsung ad titled "Wall Huggers" really struck a nerve, didn't it? Blame it on Apple: the iPhone is frequently criticized for its battery life which isn't abysmal at all though you'd be hard-pressed to argue that its ~1,560 mAh battery is a match for high-end Android devices that go beyond 3,000 mAh, such as LG's G3 or Samsung's Galaxy Note 3.

Feeling your pain, lo and behold, Nomad has created a nice solution to your battery woes. Their new NomadPlus accessory transforms your iPhone's charger into a portable 1,500 mAh battery for backup power...

Claimed photo shows alleged 15 percent stronger iPhone 6 battery

There has been some commotion lately as to whether or not Apple's iPhone 6 will have a longer battery life due to a larger enclosure potentially housing a stronger battery pack.

A new claimed photo surfaced Thursday purportedly depicting an iPhone 6 battery showing an increased capacity of 1,810mAh.

To put it in context, both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c have a a 1,570mAh battery so this alleged component could provide a sixteen percent boost in battery capacity...

Apple allegedly brings new supplier on board to help solve iPhone 6 battery production woes

Problems with mass production of ultra-thin batteries is among the reasons cited for a rumored delay of a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model.

Last month, Asian sources said both LG Chemical and Samsung, Apple’s battery cell suppliers for the iPhone, were struggling to produce battery components measuring 2mm or less.

Apple's technical requirements apparently pose technical challenges as standard smartphone batteries have a thickness of roughly 2.8 – 2.9 millimeters. A new report alleges that Apple has now solved the issue by bringing a new supplier on board, Hsin Chu, Taiwan-based Simplo Technologies...

Poll: what’s more important to you – screen size or battery life?

Pundits and fans are in agreement that a bigger screen will be the #1 selling point of Apple's forthcoming iPhone 6 refresh. With two models in tow, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other using a phablet-class 5.5-inch display, the iconic smartphone will for the first time go comfortably past four inches.

So, who's willing to trade a bigger screen for a much-improved battery that could keep you going for 24 hours or more, on a single charge? For the sake of completeness, One survey identified a longer-lasting battery as the top feature request by early iPhone 5 adopters ahead of the handset's September 2012 launch...

Rumor: Apple’s secret partnership with Intelligent Energy to boost iPhone battery performance

Rumor has it that Apple has secretly partnered with a British fuel-cell firm called Intelligent Energy on deploying its fuel cells in electronic devices such as MacBooks, iPhones and iPads within a few years.

Intelligent Energy's technology converts chemical energy from fuel stored in the cells into electricity.

The technology could potentially allow future iPhones and iPads to run on a single charge for days or even weeks. As a bonus, the process is green and highly efficient...

Apple’s obsession with iPhone 6 thinness could yield marginal battery improvements

As a rule of thumb: the bigger the phone, the stronger the battery. At least, this has been the case with the vast majority of jumbo-sized Android handsets.

And it's easy to see why: phones with larger displays need bigger enclosures that offer more space inside for internal components such as the battery.

Many pundits expect Apple's iPhone 6 to exhibit a notable battery capacity boost, but a new report is now alleging that both a 4.7 and 5.5-inch handset offer a slight boost in capacity from the battery used in the iPhone 5s, presumably because Apple is adamant to retain the World's Thinnest Smartphone crown...

Mophie adds 64GB option to Space Pack battery case for iPhone 5/5s

As Samsung's latest 'Wall Huggers' Galaxy ad suggests - you, sir, are constantly on the lookout for power outlets and tethered to the wall because there's no way you could replace that sealed battery with a spare one. If that ad hit a nerve, why not consider a battery pack for your device?

Accessory maker Mophie has just what you need.

Not only does its Space Pack iPhone 5/5s case double your iPhone’s runtime with a built-in 1700mAh battery, the 16 or 32 gigabytes of on-board flash chips increase your iPhone's own built-in storage. Today, Mophie added a new variant to the lineup featuring a whopping 64 gigabytes. The best bit: it's available for pre-order now...
