Camera+ 6 arrives with iOS 8 support, Photos extension, manual shooting modes and controls

As promised, developer Taptaptap on Thursday pushed a major refresh of its award-winning camera and photo-editing software for iOS devices, Camera+.

Now available in the App Store as a free update for existing users, Camera+ 6 for the iPhone and iPod touch takes advantage of a whole bunch of mobile photography enhancements in iOS 8, such as manual focus and exposure control, a cool extensions allowing you to edit your snaps right inside iOS 8's stock Photos app, using native Camera+ controls and the app's photo-editing features, to name but a few.

Gameloft unleashes Asphalt Overdrive onto iOS

French games maker Gameloft released a new racing game, Asphalt Overdrive, onto the App Store Thursday. Available for the iPhone and iPad on a free-to-play basis, the retro-styled racing title files as the first spinoff in the award-winning Asphalt franchise.

Set in a “new '80s” version of California, the game features an intense racing experience which challenges players to outsmart and outrun the cops.

Sword-slashing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance hits Mac App Store

TransGaming, which specializes in video game portability technology, on Thursday released Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in the Mac App Store.

Originally developed by Kojima Productions and Platinum Games, Revengeance is technically still part of the Metal Gear universe, with one notable change: instead of the hide-and-seek approach that the original Metal Gear Solid popularized more than a decade ago, Revengeance files as a hack'n'slash game that puts you in the shoes of a cyborg ninja named Raiden.

Equipped with a fancy high-frequency katana blade, you'll be slicing your way through the enemies amid a terrible conflict brewing between private military corporations (PMCs). The game is available in the Mac App Store for a promotional price of $24.99.

A first look at MyScript Stack keyboard for iOS 8

When Apple first announced that it would allow users to set third-party apps as the default keyboard, I got pretty excited. I know it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but similar to having a multitude of pens in varying styles and colors, I like having options when typing. It makes it more fun.

MyScript Stack is another third-party app that is now compatible as a default keyboard for iOS 8. Although, I’d be incorrectly describing it as a keyboard since its main feature is that you can handwrite letters instead of typing them.

Fantastical 2 update brings support for the larger screens of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Fantastical 2 has been updated on Wednesday to bring support for the larger screens of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, just about five days after the release of these devices. Unfortunately, users who were hoping for support for Notification Center widgets and interactive notifications will still have to wait as these features are not part of this update.

ESPN SportsCenter app update finally brings widgets to Notification Center

Sports fan rejoice, as ESPN has finally updated its SportsCenter app to make good use of Notification Center widgets in the Today tab. The SportsCenter app has been the one Apple used in its marketing materials related to widgets in Notification Center, so it is strange that it took ESPN a week since the release of iOS 8 to actually have this update ready for the public. But who are we to complain, right?

Sunrise Calendar adds Trello support, RSVP to invitation by swiping on the notification and more

Wednesday morning, Sunrise Calendar received its iOS 8 focused update bringing out new capabilities to the already feature-packed cross-platform app.

These include support for the free web-based project management service Trello and the ability to RSVP to invitation notifications by swiping on the notification directly (requires iOS 8).

With support for Trello, Sunrise now lets you see all the cards with a due date and introduces a new option to filter for cards that are assigned to you.

Amazon revamps Goodreads app, adds friend updates, improved shelving and more

Goodreads, the popular social cataloging service owned by Amazon, on Wednesday pushed a major 3.0 update to its iPhone and iPad application.

Now with a revamped user interface and several new features such as friend updates, improved shelving, a handy reading progress indicator and streamlined navigation, the app gives reading aficionados greater flexibility in terms of content discovery and exploring their favorite books.

Goodreads boasts more than 20 million members who have added an enormous 570 million books to their shelves. The app is available free of charge in the App Store.

Twitterrific gains 1Password integration via in-app browser and more

Twitterrific by Iconfactory, a third-party Twitter client for the iPhone and iPad, has received an update Tuesday evening enabling extension support for AgileBits’ 1Password via Twitterrific's in-app browser, in addition to taking advantage of the bigger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens.

This version also includes more than a dozen bug fixes, improvements and enhancements. The 8.6-megabyte download is available free of charge in the App Store, with advanced features locked behind several In-App Purchases.

A first look at KuaiBoard for iOS 8

I’m having a lot of fun testing out different keyboards for iOS 8. Each one has a different feature that makes it special. Now all I have to do is figure out which one I’m most likely to make my go-to keyboard.

KuaiBoard is another third-party app that you can add to the list of default keyboards for iOS 8. This one is actually not a keyboard at all, but a template fill-in that you can use for quickly sending text that you repeat often with just one tap.

Riffsy launches customizable GIF keyboard for iOS 8

Riffsy has added to the onslaught of third party keyboards we've seen since iOS 8 launched last week with its new GIF Keyboard. It installs natively, and as the name suggests, it allows you to quickly send a variety of animated GIFs directly from your keyboard.

While it may sound gimmicky, the app has a library of "millions" of GIFs that Riffsy has collected over the past year. And since many of them are tagged with hashtags, it's actually pretty easy to search for and find a specific GIF that conveys your current mood.

Microsoft to update Skype for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus next month

Software giant Microsoft, which owns and runs the Skype service, will unleash an update next month that will optimize the popular VoIP platform for the bigger 4.7-inch screen on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus's 5.5-inch display, according to a Skype spokesperson Tuesday.

“We’re currently working on an update to Skype for iPhone that scales for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus screen sizes, which we plan to release in the next month,” said Skype.

The company wouldn't reveal if the new version will take full advantage of the larger canvas or simply blow up the user interface on 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 devices.
