Apple More than Likely to Lose Amazon Lawsuit, “App Stores” for Everyone

Most of you are probably aware of Apple's trademark lawsuit against Amazon. But if not, it's easy to catch up. The online retailer opened up a new app market earlier this year, entitled the Amazon Appstore for Android. Apple's legal team quickly filed a motion with the courts to ban the retailer from using their trademark.

Apple coined the term back in 2008 when they launched their infamous App Store, and they don't want customers confusing it with a 2nd rate offering. It looks like Apple is going to have to do better than that, as Bloomberg is reporting that the judge has stated that she will "probably" deny Apple's motion...

iPhone Top-Selling Handset on AT&T and Verizon

According to a recent study, after five months, the iPhone already dominates the Verizon network in the U.S. On AT&T, the numbers are even more impressive, with a 65% lead.

BITG Research surveyed 250 Verizon and AT&T stores across the United States over a period of three months and determined that the iPhone is the number one smartphone on both carriers.

Strange iPhone Android Knock Offs for Sale at Sears [Updated]

If Apple's litigation team thinks they have a pretty good case against Samsung for violating trade dress, wait until they get wind of this new iPhone-imitating Android device.

While blatant iPhone rip-offs certainly aren't anything new, the fact that a major U.S. retail chain like Sears is selling them is kind of surprising. Even though the device touts some big features, iDB has a pool going on just how long this device remains available...

iAndroid, an Android Simulator for iPhone

I've never been a big fan of Android. I tried really hard to like Google's mobile operating system but I never really made a deep connection with it. That was until a couple days ago, when I tried iAndroid, an Android simulator for jailbroken iPhone.

We've seen how to port Android to iOS before but it never really was a good set up. Things didn't work well, supported devices were limited, and it just wasn't pretty. Because iAndroid is not a port, but a simulator, it takes care of all these inconveniences to make the best of Android on your iPhone...

iPhone Now More Popular Than BlackBerry in US

Apple's iPhone has now overtaken BlackBerry devices to become the second most popular smartphone in the U.S. in terms of active users. While the iPhone has been outselling the BlackBerry family for some time now, it previously sat behind RIM's devices in both platform and hardware.

Data recorded by comScore's MobiLens service has revealed that between the three-month period beginning February and ending April 2011, 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones, 26% of which were Apple's iPhone...

US Army Prepares the iPhone for War

Following in the footsteps of the U.S. Government, the Army is planning to hold desert trials in the U.S. next week to test smartphones and tablets for use during war. Devices include the iPhone and Android-powered handsets, which will be stress-tested with a variety of applications that could see troops using smartphones during battle.

The devices would be used for things lie monitoring surveillance cameras or downloading "up-to-the minute information from a remote database," according to a Wall Street Journal report...

US Government Drops BlackBerry to Adopt iOS Devices

United States federal agencies are ditching BlackBerry devices in favor of those powered by iOS, according to a new feature in the Washington Post. Dubbed 'federal government 2.0', the change will see the U.S. government upgraded and the introduction of consumer technologies like the iPhone, iPad, and Google's Gmail service.

The demand for these technologies has not only come from agency directors and senior officials – who want to use iPads, Android phones and web-based email at the office like they do at home – but also from frontline workers who believe consumer technologies can set them free of the office for mobile working arrangements...

AndroidLoader Now Available in Cydia

A couple days ago we told you about AndroidLoader, an upcoming jailbreak application that replicates the way Android lets you see all your apps on one single page. AndroidLoader is now available in Cydia for $2.99.

Looking at the comments left on our previous post about AndroidLoader, it is my understanding that you guys wouldn't find it very helpful and that it might be a bit overpriced for what it does...

AndroidLoader Helps You View All Your iPhone Apps in One Place

We like to give Android a hard time here at iDB, but we can also recognize when the platform offers features that the iPhone is still missing. It was only last week that I thought to myself it would be nice to have some kind of Android-like feature that would allow me to view all my applications in one place, without having to flick through several pages of apps.

It seems that iOS jailbreak developer Surenix heard me as he created AndroidLoader, an app that seems to do exactly what I was wishing for. Or does it?

80% of Mobile Video Views Take Place on an iOS Device

You can sell all the devices you want and flood the market with your platform, but if people don't use those devices, you're not really proving anything. Yes, you got it, this little piece of news I'm about to share with you falls under the "take that, Android" category.

According to a recent report by video monetization startup FreeWheel, 80% of videos viewed on a mobile device are watched from either an iPhone, and iPod Touch, or an iPad...

iPhone 4 Uses Same Noise Cancelation Technology as Google Nexus One

Who would have seen that coming? It turns out that the iPhone 4 and Google Nexus One share the same noise cancelation technology. The A1026 chip by Audience has finally been discovered as the technology behind the iPhone 4's impressive noise cancelation.

While also demonstrating that the iPhone can never be dissected too much, the folks at iFixit have finally uncovered the magic of the device's low power audio signal processor. Noise cancelation helps remove ambient and unwanted noise when the iPhone's mic is turned on.

Apple Reviewing DUI Checkpoint Apps

Yesterday, Apple testified in a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on mobile privacy. Senator Al Franken called the Senators, as well as both Apple and Google, to talk about mobile privacy in wake of the recent cell phone tracking panic.

While Apple was pressed hard by the panel on the recently exposed tracking file, they were also questioned on their App Store submission policy. Typically, the Cupertino company is criticized for their app entry policy being too strict, but not this time...
