TaiG organizes jailbreak convention in China, with prominent hackers set to attend

Chinese company/team of hackers TaiG is organizing Mobile Security Summit, a jailbreak convention scheduled for March 27, in Beijing, China, with several prominent figures of the jailbreak community already set to attend the event.

The announcement of this event hasn't been publicized quite yet on this side of the world, but it seems the TaiG team aims at bringing its own version of JailbreakCon to mainland China. The schedule seems quite tight since it's only two weeks away from now, but that hasn't stopped famous hackers such as comex, P0sixninja, Pimskeks, and Chronic from committing to present at the event.

OpenJailbreak portal now open to the public

Last month, we reported that p0sixninja's OpenJailbreak website was up and running. But either the launch was premature, or some problems were discovered, because shortly after the site went up, it was taken down.

Well whatever the issue was, it's been fixed. Joshua Hill (p0sixninja) announced on Twitter earlier today that OpenJailbreak.org is now open to the public, and he encourages hackers and developers to get involved...

p0sixninja’s ‘openjailbreak’ website now up and running

Late last month, Joshua Hill—aka p0sixninja—unveiled a new project he's been working on called 'openjailbreak.' From what we've gathered, it's an open source jailbreak repository that will allow hackers and developers to work collectively on future jailbreak releases.

It's not just Hill. There's a whole team of people working on the project, including popular graphic designer Surenix, who has been working on the website. And while we're still not sure what to make of the whole thing, it appears that the site has just gone live...

p0sixninja reveals plans for ‘openjailbreak’

A few days ago, Joshua Hill, better known as iOS hacker p0sixninja, sent out a cryptic message from his Twitter account saying that he has a lot of amazing things coming soon. He didn't say what it was, but he advised to 'think bigger than a jailbreak.'

Today, though, Hill elaborated on his project with the following message: "Ok, I hate redsn0w, I hate sn0wbreeze, and I hate 6.1.3. I'm ready to get this #openjailbreak off the ground." What is 'openjailbreak,' you ask? We'll tell you right after the fold...

P0sixninja hints at upcoming release: ‘think bigger than jailbreak’

This is kind of interesting. Joshua Hill, better known as the iOS hacker p0sixninja, sent out a bit of a cryptic message from his Twitter account last night saying that he has a lot of amazing things coming to 'us all' soon.

Hill, who has helped build a number of jailbreaks including Greenpois0n and Absinthe, has been fairly quiet lately. But he did say back in March that he had independently discovered enough exploits to build a new hack...

P0sixninja says he’s discovered exploits for next jailbreak

This is kind of interesting. Well-known iOS hacker and (former?) Chronic Dev Team member p0sixninja says that he has discovered enough exploits in iOS 6 to build a new jailbreak. The previous one, as most of you know, was recently shut down by Apple.

But it appears that p0sixninja has discovered some vulnerabilities that were not patched by the company's security team in the latest iOS update, as he tweeted out earlier tonight: "Well, so far it looks like the next jailbreak might be created entirely by me..."

The tale of my three days at the epicenter of the jailbreak community

I went to JailbreakCon full of good intentions. I was going to live tweet the event, I was going to write posts about every speak, and I was going to interview as many speakers as I could. As it turned out, I did none of that. Instead, I soaked in as much as I could from everyone around me. I did what I hadn't done for a long time: I socialized!

When I say that I socialized, I'm not saying that I pretended to be friends with some people I mostly knew on Twitter. No, I actually lived with these people for three days, learned about their lives, their habits, and their personality. I learned about the real "them", not the image they sometimes give of them on Twitter or IRC.

This is the story of my three days at the epicenter of the jailbreak community. You won't learn anything here about the iOS 6 jailbreak, because what happens at JailbreakCon stays at JailbreakCon, but hopefully, you will get a glimpse a the other side of the jailbreak community...

Third-gen Apple TV jailbreak may not be so unlikely after all

Up to this point, the chances for a third-generation Apple TV jailbreak have looked pretty bleak. In fact, the last we heard, no one was even actively working on it.

But things may be starting to look up for ATV3 jailbreak hopefuls. Well-known iOS hacker p0sixninja says that the task may not be as unlikely as it once seemed...

iOS hacker P0sixninja leaves the Chronic Dev Team

Famous jailbreak master Joshua Hill, known in the community as P0sixninja just announced on his Twitter account that he is leaving the Chronic Dev Team, a reputable group of iOS hackers he helped create a few years ago, and of which he was considered the front-man, up until now.

At this point of time, it is unclear what the motivations behind the departure are. A follow up tweet sent by P0sixninja makes it sound like it might be a money matter, but my sources tell me it is far more complicated than that.

Watch part 2 of the Dream Team’s HITB talk

Yesterday, we showed you part one of the Dream Team's talk at this year's Hack In The Box conference. The section covered the exploits that were used in Corona, and other A4 jailbreak details.

Part two of the talk went live today, and in our opinion it's much more interesting. In it, the Team discusses the A5 jailbreak, and throws in a nice little 'one more thing' announcement at the end...

Watch the Dream Team talk about Corona and more at HITB

The "Dream Team," as most of you know, is made up of p0sixninja, Pod2g, MuscleNerd, and a handful of other hackers. The group is responsible for the last 2 major jailbreak releases.

The Team was on hand to talk about those jailbreaks, at this year's Hack In The Box Conference in Amsterdam. They discussed a wide range of topics, including Absinthe and Corona...
