Skype testing short video messaging feature

Microsoft is launching a new Video Messages feature to allow Skype users to send short video snippets to each other up to three minutes long. The feature works in both online and offline mode and Microsoft has started testing it with some Skype users on the Mac, iOS and Android, according to multiple web reports. Surprisingly, Skype Video Messages won't be initially available on Windows, but Skype for Windows users will receive these messages with a link to view them online. More tidbits right below...

evasi0n iOS 6 untethered jailbreak released

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s finally here. After much anticipation, the hard working team of hackers that make up the evad3rs have released their iOS 6 untethered jailbreak tool to the public. The tool is called evasi0n, and it will let you jailbreak your iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches, on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Evasi0n is an untethered jailbreak, and it works on every iOS device capable of running iOS 6, with the exception of the Apple TVs. That means that you can now jailbreak the iPhone 5, the iPad mini, the iPad 4, the iPad 4, iPad 3, the iPhone 4S, and various other iOS devices with evasi0n. How to jailbreak iOS 6 using evasi0n [Mac tutorial]

As we just told you, the evad3rs have released their jailbreak tool called evasi0n, and it allows you to easily jailbreak iOS 6. As we always do, we’ve created an easy to use written and video walkthrough to show you how to jailbreak iOS 6 on your iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

The good news is that evasi0n works with all flavors of iOS 6. That includes iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2, and of course, iOS 6.1. The evad3rs have worked hard to create easy to use tools, which allow you to jailbreak iOS 6 using Mac OS X, Windows, and even Linux.

We have personally confirmed that this tutorial works on every iOS 6 compatible device outside of the Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3. This includes the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 5G. How to save SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1

Every time there's a new jailbreak, the same message is preached: Save your SHSH blobs! In fact, even when there is not a jailbreak, it's a good practice to always save your SHSH blobs. These files are absolute must haves if there ever opens up the possibility to downgrade back to iOS 6.1 once newer firmware is released. If you don't save your blobs for a specific firmware, then the possibility of ever being able to downgrade to that firmware is slim to none.

So please, be proactive. Save your SHSH blobs right now. That way, when Apple drops iOS 6.1.1, or whatever its next firmware will be called, you will already have your blobs saved. Apple has been quick about closing its firmware signing window as of late, so once the new firmware is released, it might be too late to save the iOS 6.1 blobs.

evasi0n moves closer to release, now 80% complete

Sunday is not that far away. Depending on where you are in the world, it could be as little as a day away. With that in mind, it's great to see status bar on evasi0n.com, which signifies the completeness of the upcoming jailbreak, continue to rise.

Earlier today we reported that the status had approached 75%, with the Linux version of evasi0n still being in the works. Now, the Linux version is completed, and private beta testing is proceeding full steam ahead...

Apple to discontinue Mac Pro in Europe on March 1

Apple will reportedly discontinue the Mac Pro in Europe beginning March 1. The unexpected decision isn't a result of low demand for Apple's pro desktop, as conventional wisdom would have you believe. The real reason is simple, really: Apple's aging top-of-the-line desktop just doesn't meet a new European product regulation standards effective March 1.

The current Mac Pro line will continue to be available in other markets that don't have the new European product certification standards in place. Apple has emailed its resellers across Europe informing them they can place Mac Pro orders up until February 18 for shipment before March 1, 2013...

The evasi0n jailbreak progresses further – Windows app and Mac app completed

If you're keeping your eyes locked in on the evad3r's Twitter account, then perhaps you saw the second tweet hit the wire just a while ago. Indeed, yet another step in the progress of the evasi0n jailbreak tool has been finished.

Now that the tool's GUI interface has been completed for both Windows and Mac OS X, a few super fortunate, and uber trustworthy individuals, get to perform a private beta test with the tool. 68% completed, only 32% remaining!

Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 hits Mac and Windows without iOS/Android support

Microsoft is at last getting into game, offering its well-known Office suite of products for consumers increasingly turning to the cloud. Office 365 Home Premium provides all the familiar Office applications - including Word, Excel and PowerPoint - along with online storage and a free hour of Skype each month. At $99 per year ($80 for students and educators) the cloud-based application suite will work on up to 5 Macs, PCs and Windows tablets. Five years after Google launched rival Google Docs (now Google Drive), Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer proclaims Office 365 a key component in a "fundamental shift" for the company.

After making billions as a software company, Ballmer is rebranding Microsoft as a devices and services firm, a move some may view as too little and too late for Redmond...

How to have iOS screenshots automagically appear in your Mac’s Finder

I've always loved the simplified iOS approach to screenshot taking just by pressing the power and home button simultaneously. This oft-used feature works in absolutely any app and, as an added bonus, iOS stores my screenies in the Camera Roll as crisp, lossless PNG files.

An indispensable part of my daily blogging workflow, I grab app graphics on a daily basis for use in reviews, news articles and guides such as this one. The old-school approach to syncing iOS screenshots (along with your photos) entails connecting your device to a Mac or PC via USB. But if you're anything like me, you've long cut the cord to enjoy the benefits of wireless sync.

Now, iCloud makes photo sync a no-brainer: that is, unless the very thought of firing up iPhoto or Aperture on your Mac just to access your Photo Stream drives you nuts.

Apple lists California-based Quanta Computer plant as Mac assembler

Back in November, some folks started seeing "Assembled in the USA" etched into the backs of their iMacs. This obviously led to the conclusion that Apple has been quietly moving some of its assembly operations from China to the United States.

Today we learn where, at least some of, those Macs are being put together. In a recent update to its Supplier Responsibility page, Apple has named Quanta Computer Inc., in its Fremont, California plant, as a final assembler for its Mac computers...

How cool is that?
