8 jailbreak tweaks to check out this weekend

Jailbreak Tweaks to check out

It appears as though we’re starting to see more iOS 11-esque jailbreak tweaks in Cydia since the public release of Electra for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 devices, and this week’s list of tweaks reflects upon that.

We’ll be talking about all of this week’s jailbreak tweak releases in this weekly roundup, and as usual, we’ll kick things off by showcasing our favorite releases and then conclude by outlining the rest afterward.

VideoHUD provides system-wide access to iOS 11’s new volume HUD

One of the most significant pain points involving the iOS user interface is the stock volume HUD. It pops up directly in the middle of your display, forcing you to wait for its automatic dismissal before returning to your tasks.

Apple provided meaningful volume HUD-centric upgrades in iOS 11, but you’ll only notice them when you watch videos or play full-screen games. Fortunately, a new free jailbreak tweak called VideoHUD by iOS developer Youssef Mikhail lets you enjoy these upgrades from anywhere in iOS.

This tweak puts the date under the time indicator on your jailbroken iPhone X

DateUnderTimeX is a subtle new jailbreak tweak made by iOS developer NeinZedd9 that adds a date indicator beneath the Status Bar time indicator on jailbroken iPhone X handsets.

Shown above, you can see how well the date meshes with the existing time indicator. The implementation is so clean that it virtually looks like something Apple would offer right out of the box.

LetMeKnow, NoLargeTitles, and other jailbreak tweaks to check out this weekend

Now that Electra has been publicly available for a couple of weeks, we’re starting to see some iOS 11-oriented jailbreak tweaks surface in Cydia alongside those made for iOS 10 jailbreaks like G0blin and Yalu.

In this roundup, we'll discuss all the new jailbreak tweaks released throughout the last week. As usual, we’ll kick things off by showcasing our favorites and then outline the rest afterward.

This tweak removes the system-wide bold titles in iOS 11

When Apple released iOS 11 last year, one of the first things I noticed and didn’t particularly adore were those unnecessarily-large titles that show up at the tops of various stock apps.

Assuming your iOS 11 device has been jailbroken with Electra, you can now install a new free jailbreak tweak called NoLargeTitles by iOS developer CoolStar to do away with these unsightly titles and revert to how things looked in iOS 10 and earlier.

LegiBilly, Mypomanella, and other jailbreak tweaks to check out this weekend

It’s been an exciting week for the jailbreak community. Not only have we seen the official public release of the Cydia-integrated Electra jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2, but we’ve learned that Saurik is still working on official updates for Cydia and Mobile Substrate.

That aside, tweak developers have been launching new releases for both iOS 10 and iOS 11 all week long, and we’ll show you all of them in this roundup. As usual, we’ll kick things off by showcasing our favorites first and then outline the rest of them afterward.

How to jailbreak iOS 11.0-11.3.1 with Electra

Electra jailbreak

Electra for iOS 11.0-11.3.1 is out and in wide use. It seems to work very smoothly for most, perhaps due to the extensive beta period, but it isn't without some reported problems. Add to that the rumor of a more traditional alternative from Saurik et al. and you could be forgiven for deciding to wait it out a while.

Electra 1.0.2 released to address the APT 0.7 compatibility issue

Following the first public release of the Electra jailbreak tool for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 this week, there were some initial discrepancies with official versions of Saurik’s Cydia dependencies.

Electra users were later advised to avoid installing the APT 0.7 update from Saurik’s Cydia/Telesphoreo repository, but a new update to Electra on Tuesday should address these issues head-on.

Saurik’s latest Reddit comment discusses Electra, Cydia, and Mobile Substrate

With everything that’s going on lately in the jailbreak community as of late, it’d be an understatement to say that people want to know what’s happening with Saurik and the iOS 11 update for Cydia and Mobile Substrate that he talked about on Reddit several weeks ago.

Following the Electra 1.0 public release this week, Saurik took to Reddit once again to discuss CoolStar's jailbreak tool and his progress on updating Cydia and Mobile Substrate for iOS 11. As usual, the comment is rather long, so bear with us…

Electra jailbreak for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 officially released

You may have been following our coverage of Electra's progress through beta phase to release candidate, as it acquires the requisite functionality to be considered a full end-user jailbreak. With the addition of Cydia to the tool it became clear that a full release was not far off, and sure enough, today saw version 1.0 (and afterwards 1.0.1) posted to the official website.
